This is a great review! Thank you! I love GMRS for my camping activities. For the family, I use something simple. For me, depending on the situation and day, I use a Wouxun KG-UV9GX. Due to serving many years as an EMT, I can’t get that “urge to know what is going on around me” out of my system. These Wouxun radios are very good on my personal opinion.
The 905G is an outstanding radio. Built like a commercial radio, solid as a rock. Definitely not a toy, all business. Super simple to use with a great, easy to understand manual that you really don't even need. You literally don't need to program anything, just turn it on and go. My go to for off roading and mobile communication.
Excellent review, as always. I don't have a KG-905G, but I do own a pair of KG-805Gs. Very simple. Great radios to hand out to non-radio people, like my wife and daughter. Excellent excellent superhet receiver. Unfortunately, no USB-C charging. But! Programmable with CHIRP-NEXT using the KG-UVD1P settings. Can do ham bands (RX and - listen to this - TX!). A very capable monobander. Plus FM broadcast radio. Only 80 bucks from BTWR. Not affiliated in any way, shape, or form.
That is a really good question. The KG-905G is a good radio. But it's collecting dust right now while my HA1G got used as by me as recently as this afternoon. In fact, I use it quite a bit. So, the honest answer is that I like the HA1G more. It's a good bit less expensive as well.
I have 2 since October 2021. Amazing radios but... DO NOT trust the IP rating. Few days ago I tried to clean one of them with a little bit of water, nothing crazy, just a little bit AND the water got inside. I ruined an amazing radio and i am mad as hell. The battery, with almost everyday use, lastet till August this year, (3 years). Ordered a new pair of 3200 mAh. Adding a channel is possible ONLY from PC.

I’ve had a pair of these for a while. Can’t beat em for the money. Basic, rugged radio.
