  • At the "Symposium on Tick-borne Diseases" held May 17, 2014 at the Hyatt in Cambridge, Maryland, Dr. Richard Horowitz provided insights into the many diseases humans are contracting from ticks, and he helps us to differentiate between the different illnesses. The event was hosted by the Lyme Disease Association of the Eastern Shore of Maryland (soon to be the Lyme Disease Association of Delmarva), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing educational resources on tick-borne diseases. This and other videos from the Symposium were made possible by a very generous private donation for which we are very thankful to have received. The wonderful videographer/editor for the event was Bryan Krandle (krandle86@yahoo.com). If you enjoy having wonderful resources like the videos from this conference, please consider a donation to the LDAESM, P.O. Box 5360, Salisbury, Maryland 21802. Thank you!

I was diagnosed with several Coinfections about 7 months ago, including a live Babesia Mycroti. I feel like I have malaria: uncontrollable shaking, drenching sweats, nausea,, lightheadedness, anxiety, depression, extreme fatigue, but insomnia, severe pain, eye problems, leg aches, etc., and at least 3 viral infections that reactivated.
      Are you doing better now?
I edited this 10 months later, and my headaches are gone, but I’m still not feeling well at all. I have low motivation, and am having a hard time get my taxes done, running errands, and I can’t hold relationships together anymore. I’m alone with a house and a dog at 69. My family doesn’t care nor understand.

I have a new normal, which consists of surviving, getting food, etc.
For a few weeks, I felt really good, but started doing too much physical activity in my backyard, going to stores, etc., but I crashed, so I guess I have to pace myself. I appreciate your concern!!

Excellent presentation. Wish there were more doctors as educated and informed about Lyme and co-infections as Dr. Horowitz because our health care system and insurance companies are seriously failing everyone suffering with Lyme and co-infections (as if the disease itself isn't already painful enough to go through and to be misdiagnosed and mistreated by so many incompetent doctors who don't know anything about Lyme is just unacceptable).
    Hopefully that will change soon.

I am a recently retired Internist from SW PA who has had Lyme Disease for 2 months. Dr. Horowitz's lecture was very enlightening and comprehensive. His lecture should be essential reading or viewing material for all physicians who treat Lyme Disease. I have researched Lyme Disease extensively while ill with LD and I agree that this is a very serious epidemic. I feel that the Department of Health is ignoring this epidemic. There must be a method to reduce the population of infected deer ticks to reduce the infection rate. Spraying to eliminate ticks or treating deer as we do with our pet dogs with a Nexgard- type product should be considered. We do not need to go into the deep woods to treat deer against ticks since most cases occur like mine- in the back yard or in wooded suburban areas. The Infectious Disease physician that I consulted advised me that there were more than 300 cases in my county last year that tested positive which means there were 500-600 cases in a county with a population of approximately 400,00. Everyone I talk to since contracting Lyme knows at least 2 or 3 people who have had Lyme in my area. As a physician I am obviously interested in treating infectious diseases adequately, but with Lyme I think the government needs to develop a plan to eradicate black legged deer ticks since this epidemic is a major health hazard. With an infectious disease epidemic there needs to be a major effort to eradicate the source of the infection. There is a concerted effort to eliminate the species of mosquitos that carry Zika virus but I see little public discussion or government intervention to control the infected deer ticks. To me that makes little sense!

Glad to see Horowitz make something shorter than "Why Can't I Get Better" about co-infections. Infection, inflammation and immune dysfunction are pretty key parts of getting better. It's good to have a doc that doesn't undermine any of the above. Antibiotic use is just not enough to get into remission. Personally like a more natural approach than Horowitzs, and I think eating carbs are a GOOD thing for recovery, but I do really like this dude.

There was a 60 Minutes on Larium and the psychological problems it caused. I found out the hard way. It made me crazy, curled up in felal position in a panic about nothing, vivid visual hallucinations, and paranoia. Went off it and was better immediately, normal 2 weeks later. Some soldiers given Larium as a malarial preventative killed friends, loved ones or themselves even months after being off the drug. I have had regular (nearly annual) Lyme reoccurences for almost 30 years. Homeopathics helped the most. Three years and counting.

I have been suffering close to 12 years from Lyme disease and it was caught 1 yr after getting ill. It has been a battle between m the medical doctors i've seen and myself ever since! I was positive for Lyme , fortunate for me right? wrong! I was so ill my primary care doctor thought it to be urgent enough to start on treatment while I waited 2 weeks to get in to see Yale Rheumatology. I could barely walk! I went to Yale and they told me they were not seeing lyme anymore but I had Rheumatoid Arthritis and they never gave me any further treatment for Lyme although I had other symptoms that don't match RA! After 5 yrs of getting no where, only sicker, I finally get tired of being treated as if i'm not capable of having common sense enough to know my own body and whats its telling me! It is now 2018, 12 yrs later from the day I was told I had lyme disease and I have some new symptoms as well as what I started with! I need help as I cant pay out of pocket to LLMD! I continue to have ,Joint pain in my knees, stiff neck sometimes so painful I cant turn my head, fevers and chills, temp. 101 to as high as 103 degrees, bizarre skin rashes on my back and shoulders that are similar to contact dermatitis, muscle soreness , numbness and tingling in my legs, feet, hands, confusion, ADD symptoms and issues of foggy brain which comes in bouts, sometimes i have trouble putting things to words in a sentence athough I know what I how and what the words are! I'm hoping Dr. Horowitiz or someone in your field would see this and maybe theres hope for me yet! watching this brought tears to my eyes as I have so many of these issues now and was positive for lyme disease in the test!

I found amazing relief from Lyme and many coinfections
by using Salus structured Silver and methylene Blue.
I also, Changed my diet First to keto and the most beneficial when I went on carnivore diet. With so many pathogens I recommend First going on łów carb, then keto then carnivore. Why?
Because carbs feed pathogens like parasites, bacteria, fungus. Believe it or not Lyme patients have it all. Including excess of heavy metals. So when you start using less carbs and eventually no carbs you will experience dye off symptoms or so called HERX reaction which will require for you to take large amounts of charcoal in pills or powder form mixed with water. Pecta Clear can be also very helpful and zeolite and chlorella in helping dying pathogens out of your body.
I also do hyperbaric chamber sessions - very helpful and vit C IV’s and ozone IV’s.
But the biggest game changer for me was using methylene blue 20-40 mg a day pharmaceutical grade only ( buy a book about it from Amazon) Salus silver and diet. I am doing so well and it did not require a large amount of money. Quite inexpensive actually!!!
And if you completely have little money - go carnivore!!!
Also methylene blue from Amazon costs $30.00 in liquid form. This will be a game changer for all of you! It is for me and I look 10 years younger too!
Ps. Fasting 4 days each month can be great too! Water and a pinch of Celtic salt. On 3 rd day you start to produce stem cells that naturally heal your body. 🙏

The California Dept. of Health website states there have been no cases of this reported in California so I emailed them and told them I had a PCR that shows this. This is why these agencies have no idea what's actually going on in this country.

+Cindy Pitts Cindy, its great of Dr Horowitz to share these things with us, but its another for him to tell us what to tell our doctors this stuff, what tests to administer, what else to look for and how to treat. Its really wonderful, but does he really believe theyre going to listen-they wont, either out of their own selfish pride, out of politics or whateve- I wish I could bring this list of points Dr Horowitz made, theyll laugh and say; Look another self-diagnosed looney !" Its terrible the way some of us are treated Im very saddened to find out he is not accepting new patients. Now what?My problem is that I cant find any knowledgeable LLDs in NY who understands (or care enough) to treat Late Lyme on the grounds of a CLINICAL diagnosis- remember- tests aren't accurate but if you show an extremely high exposure to it and are HIGHLY symptomatic and DEBILITATED then it MUST BE WHAT IT SEEMS- LYME,BY GOSH ! It must be treated and eradicated or it WILL become deadly.I am YEARS into this, and have been told by Internist/Infectious Disease Doc who was looking over the results from the blood work he ordered and said that it looks like mine is a case of Late Disseminated Lyme; funny, the next time I call for apt the receptionist says,"I cant find any thing in regards to your case" then when I finally get an appointment a few months later he says,"No,I never said that"...Wait, WHAT??? Dr, could you push to get the rest of the medical community to understand that this is a epidemic.
Here the doctors still don't know because they don't see it as much as you doctor's down in the United States where it is rampant.

I've had borrelliosis off & on for years and anaplasmosis at least once, but rural northern California is like that
....luckily it rarely bothers me at 70, and I'm extremely careful about ticks these days. But with these co-infections it sounds like I should keep doxycycline around again.
Heck, you can even get tularemia from ticks, although not so much here apparently....yikes!
    Great talk, thank you kindly.

+John Fenske my doc did the same. so I decided to treat myself with herbs and a diet change. one year later I got tested again and was positive. the most effective thing I did was stopping all sugar and carbs, and even most fruit. pasta and rice was like 75% of my diet. now its 0% and all my joint pain has disappeared. I ate sweets and drank egg nog during the holidays and rotating joint pain started back. try stopping all sugars and carbs and see if you feel better.

+Marie Rose I was making slow changes to my diet and kept getting joint pain and one day decided to stop all sugars and carbs. I even stopped all root vegetables and grains. I went on an all vegan barely any carb diet and felt great. I now added fish and meat to my diet because that strict diet was sometimes tough to maintain. Only time I get any attacks is if I stray from the diet and eat to many carbs.

Hello I am from Canada. I was infested by ticks of all types, they had come into my house through the bottom crack on the door . I was being bitten over and over by different kinds of ticks .
I can't tell you my whole story, because you will think I am insane but I learned as much as I could about the tick and I can tell you we are under attack by a group of insects in league with the tick which is a spider not a insect . This is probably the most unbelievable thing I have ever seen. I am warming you this is going to be pandemic and it isn't known about, especially here in Canada. The doctors don't have a clue
I am not crazy and I have to sit down with a person that will take me serious because I have done this all alone, and have investigated the whole thing and am probably the only person that knows this ?
Beware the tick is a highly intelligent and creative creature, you won't believe what and how they can do to us , psychology and physically.
