Got my M1 earlier this year at the very same CMP!!! Everyone was extremely helpful,I asked a guy behind the counter for assistance on picking out one and he led me to a "RACK" grade with a wink and a smile that barely guaged a 2!! Will be going back sometime after the first of the year.
Thanks for the great video..The CMP is a real gem for the public to have..I have received several M1's from the CMP and always have been pleased with what they sent me..Customer service is awesome as well.. I really don't know if I could handle seeing all those beautiful rifles and only be able to pick 1 or 2..
Anyone who thinks Trump should get our M1 Garands back from Korea mark a thumbs up for me and for you. This will give me an idea of who or how many may sign a real petition.
cmp prices are beyond the reach of most of us. I'll leave it up to those with more resources than I have. Shooting, like flying, is now a rich man's hobby.
Thanks for the video. Got my Garand ~2 months ago and shot her for the first time this past weekend. Not only did she shoot sweetly, she turned quite a few heads at the range. Can't beat a classic beauty, that's for sure.
Great video! Got a call from a good friend who was in Alabama visiting family, the day before he went to buy 2 Garands, he was kind enough to offer to pick one up for me. However I came across a Springfield manufactured piece (Serial # indicated 1945 date) 20 years ago at a Civil War Show in Baltimore, complete w/ sling and cleaning kit in butt . He asked for $400...........shoots great, best $400 I ever spent. Thanks for posting video, enjoyed it and reading all the comments.
Makes me glad I got my c&r. I've already got one M1 (great uncle carried it in the pacific) and whenever I can save the money up, I'm gonna buy one to have as an everyday shooter! Fantastic rifles they are :)
I am so sorry for the sickness in your family. I hope he is touched and healed and doesn't have to suffer. I hope you and ytour family find peace, if something goes wrong, in knowing he is in a better place where the ammo will always be sufficient! Take care and God bless you anf your family.
Excellent video; you gave a great tour of the CMP sales office. Clearly you know what you're talking about. There are a lot of Yayhoos out there making videos that don't really know whereof they speak...but you do man.
its vietnam era and lower, and its for the civilian marksmanship program not an assault weapons course, they sell basically milsurp rifles that have been replaced.
C.M.P. is not run by NRA. You can order A M1 Garand by being a member of a affiliated club. If no club near you a membership in the Garand collectors association is good enough. Look at their web sight for how to order. You can get a "Special" Grade that is a original action with a new stock and barrel for right at 1000$, many used for about half that.
This does help. I have an HR service grade on order. The CMP people were very helpful .....I may just have to order another one. Appreciate this kind of advice, since this is my first Garand.
Great video, very informative. Glad you love the rifles for the history. Many just want guns instead of appreciating what it was once manufactured for.
What an interesting place! Thanks for posting this video and letting us all have a look at the CMP depot. I'd be very poor when leaving such a place! I have to wonder where they are dredging up the Krag-Jørgensen rifles, those have been out of service for a heck of a long time.
No. It means that whatever order you select by manufacture AND grade is picked by luck of the draw. For example if you order a rack grade HRA they will your rifle from the crate of HRA rack grades by luck of the draw. You might get a walnut stock or birch. It just happens to be whatever is next in line. Does this help?
CMP or Civilian Marksmanship Program was originally designed to promote rifle marksmanship. It was originally a government program preparing future marksmen for [hopeful] military service. You still have to belong to some shooting club/group & have proof of training [or military service] in order to purchase from them even now when they are only quasi-governmental. I believe they are the only ones that can FedEx a rifle right to your door [when ordering online].
I had an uncle that decided he wanted a M1 carbine like his issue weapon during WWII. This was back in 1960 or '61. Off of an ad on the back of a magazine, might have been the American Rifleman, he ordered a M1 for $19! I remember when it came he was a bit put out because it was in cosmoline. I sat and watched as my father helped him degrease it. Still, even at prices I can't afford, I am awfully glad that these instruments of freedom aren't being cut up for scrap.
Those are probably made by Auto Ordnance (Kahr Arms). I've got one (although not the paratrooper configuration) and it runs flawlessly. It's my favorite shooter.
AAAARRGGHH that's the neatest video i've EVER seen!! that CMP store is HEAVEN to me!! What's with the "SA SERVICE GRADE SPECIAL" Garands? are they simply reparkerized? wood looked gorgeous. the whole store looks like all my fantasies come true.
@Titleification Service grades are $595.. and are real sweet. No more carbines or 1903's. You need to join a club like the M1 Collectors club or another affiliated club. VFW etc qualifies.
I haven't been to Anniston, but have gone to the CMP store at Camp Perry, Ohio a number of times. My wife and I each got an M1 back in the day when they were only $165.00! What a bargain!
Glad you got a rifle, was it select grade or field grade? When you mentioned you were going out there, I really wished I wasn't working the next day. Funny thing, when I went out and bought mine, it was raining also. Looking at all those rifles is overwhelming isn't it, I'm glad I had someone with me to help me look. I love my Garand. Ya know, your buddy in can man my semi 1919a4 when we go shooting if he wants!
$3k for the M1 Carbine paratrooper model. I remember my cousin who is much older than me who was in Vietnam as a Marine back in 66-67. They still carried a few M1 and M1D model Garands in combat. Interesting enough when he was younger he would go to the CMP to purchase his guns. His first purchase was a M1 Carbine for $25 and later a paratrooper model M1 Carbine for $40. If I only could go back in time.
Springflied Serial number: 1855539; Is this an August 1943 production dated garand? Year on barrel is stamped: 1-S-A-5-44 (is this a 1944 barrel?). I was told this was a CMP Gun and the rear right side windage knob is marked with the letters DRC. Thank you.
Hey I don't know if you would remember but how did the service grade rifles look? I'm planning on getting one and figured I'd ask. Thanks for your time and help.
WOW! that place is heaven, i didnt see any m14(m1a) rifles, but those garands looked sweet. Id like to get a 762 rifle, but il stick to my DCM Bushy for now. thanks for the vid.
the H&Rs are less collectible than the Springfields, mainly because they were delivered after the armistice was signed in Korea... but eventually, ALL real M1 Garands will be collectors items.
I have a Springfield 1942 Garand, things a tack driver , with open sights off the bench with hand loads does a inch group. Most modern rifles with scopes can't do that.
The folks at the CMP are great. My HRA will be here soon. In the mean time I've been ordering everything that I'll need for it like Lubricate grease, CMP en-blocs, and stuff like that.
@Tex125 You can order from the CMP website and have the rifle shipped to your house. You must meet all the requirements found on the CMP website. Sorry guys no more M1 Carbines and 1903's at this time :( Some 1917's and 1903's maybe avalible sometime later this year.
@pyroboys2 It's because its the CMP. You won't find a Garand for less than $700 from a Private seller or a gun show or shop etc. CMP is by far the cheapest way to get a Garand. PM me if you need help figuring out how to buy from them as it can be rather complicated, but very much worth the hassle! I love my CMP M1
I live in Georgia. Can I just drive over to CMP and purchase a rifle, or do I have to have a FFL? I'm in the Military with CAC ID and I have a firearms permit so proper documentation is no problem. BTW, thank you for YOUR service.
awesome,I could spend my whole day in there looking at that nice selection, nice video.i want a m1 garand soo bad...nothin like good ol american iron....How many guns did u buy in there?...just two?..I take it xmas came early this year for you....not fair ....your teasing us
That makes me really want my Garand even more. It seems like it would be much better to go in person and handpick what you want instead of relying on what they ship to you. I look forward to getting mine, and passing it on to my sons....but not til after I've had it for the next 40 years or so and fired several hundred rounds.
Seeing this for the first time. I am in the process of ordering a service grade m1. Can't wait to get it, but I will be patient. When it arrives, I will be like a kid at Christmas.
You wouldn’t believe the service grade M1 I purchased from CMP. It came from Anniston excellent shape with new wood and it’s a real great shooter!!! I’ve used it in matches out to 600 yards. No I didn’t place but got my rounds on the paper.🇺🇸😃
When choosing a firearms of this age, what should I be looking for? I know to look for pitting and signs of corrosion but is there any way to asses things like barrel wear when handling a gun of this age? Would it be wise to buy something like this over the internet or should I definitely inspect it in person?
Thank you sir. I will order mine by mail sometime soon. I wish I could go to a CMP store and pick one out myself, but unfortunately I live in central Illinois.
It's surprising how similar the Krag looks to the m1903 Springfield... I went to a gun show this weekend and failed a few times seeing what I thought was a Springfield like mine, only to discover it was a Krag instead
its almost like a dream wish they had a shop like this in canada all we got here is norinco junk and alot of russian surplus definatly gotta start importing
Can you buy those and walk away that day or is there a bunch of hoops to jump through befor you can take posesson of your new rifle? I hear it can be a night mare! Please tell us the facts IV8888!
Oh man I just hear about CMP and and the amazing prices for the Battle Rifle that won WW2. I plan to get myself one or two. I'm so excited and very happy to know these guys exist. HOOYAH!
im planning on buying a new hunting rifle soon. since most bolt action rifles are well beyond $500, i think i should get an m1. would you recommend a field grade for hunting?
@pyroboys2 in south florida garands are very hard to find, I have seen a few enfields, Kar 98s, an Arisaka, I myself have an Arisaka type 99, I have seen M1 carbines, in local gunshops, but the only time I have ever seen garands, they were from $1800 to $2900,
Oh!.........after a bit more reading, I would clearly place my $400 M-1 purchased 20 years ago at "SPECIAL GRADE", the finish is 100% on wood and parkerized metal, really turns heads of other shooters at the range when I uncase and push in a clip. The wood is very light in color and highly polished.
@joeydodgemuddin I think you just sign up online for the civilian marksmanship program. Then once you are a member you get to go shop at there locations.
I wish the eligibility requirements were easier. There's only one CMP affiliated club near me, and they have a 2 year waiting list to join. But I guess if just anyone could buy from CMP, demand would skyrocket and take the pricing with it.
It seems like Anniston would be worth the drive from HSV what was the caliber and price on the kimber rifles towards the end? those look like they would be a nice investment
Unfortunately the M1892s, M1903s, M1903A3s, M1917s, M1 Carbines, and the other rifles are pretty much gone, you'll have to find them elsewhere on the open market. These days there are so many M1 Garand orders that the only ones you can buy at the store in person are the new-grade CMP Specials. All the other grades are being shipped as they are prepared to fulfill orders that are months old. Until they can catch up with the enormous number of orders, you probably won't see many in the store. If you want a Garand at a really good price, your best bet is to order by mail and wait your turn. The cheapest available right now are HRA Service Grades (made in the 1950s) for $625 plus shipping, which is about half the price you'd have to pay anyone else for a rifle in the same condition.
yotabogger415 Yes, from what they say in the emails they send every month or so, they are trying to catch up with a backlog of orders. Every rifle they rework goes to fill an existing order and doesn't make it to the shelves in the store. I've never been there in person. But I'm certain there's nowhere close to as many rifles as you see in this video. I believe they do have parts, ammo and stuff like that, but as for rifles in the store, I would try and call first before taking a trip there. They've said that they've had people travel for hours to get there only to be disappointed to find the shelves bare.
I am talking about the CMP m1s, you cant really get any though this program anymore. I can get garands but they are worth a lot of money unfortunately. I wanted to pick up a rack grade just to decide if I preferred that style of rifle, along with the round.
also im thinking of getting one of them garands from cmp. but im wondering how bad the Service Grade M1 Garand were. i mean u probably looked down the barrels and whats not. i mean id love to put out 900 on the Special Grade M1 Garand. but if its still in good enough condition i wont. or should i just put out for the special grade? gun respect Dallas, Texas
Wish my trip were shorter than that. I've got 2700 miles to go. A day and 18 more hours straight through. I could probably buy a rifle with all the money I'd spend on gas. Too bad there isn't a place up here in WA like that.
The days when M1 Garands were $450 and they actually had Krags :(
Yep, don't think it's possible to find one for under $1000 today unless it's falling apart like their Rack grades.
Hello
As a fellow veteran,I want to thank you for your service. Keep the great videos coming!
Jman
Tell them to send some up to the north store too. it's empty.
Just got mine from CMP...$625...cleaned and oiled her and hope to go shooting tonight...putting about 10 clips through her to check everything out.
Jeff K the only time I've heard clip used correctly lol
300.00 to much $$$
Thanks for the great video..The CMP is a real gem for the public to have..I have received several M1's from the CMP and always have been pleased with what they sent me..Customer service is awesome as well.. The M1' s should certainly be brought back from South Korea.
Hell yeah
Anyone who thinks Trump should get our M1 Garands back from Korea mark a thumbs up for me and for you. This will give me an idea of who or how many may sign a real petition.
Just do it and post it on all the new videos and major gun blogs. You aren't going to get anywhere posting this on a 9 year old video.
Tommy Nightmare 9
if that happened i wish it would also bring down the prices too >:|
cmp prices are beyond the reach of most of us. I'll leave it up to those with more resources than I have. Shooting, like flying, is now a rich man's hobby.

So much awesomeness in one small room

Nice i live close to the CMP at Camp Perry and have been looking at and wanting a M1 for years! cant wait to have one!!!
This was in 2009. No longer the case. Check online to see what's available.
shitty
Chuck Van So they only auction rifles unless you want a stripped.and rebuilt model? that's shitty
AAAARRGGHH that's the neatest video i've EVER seen!! that CMP store is HEAVEN to me!!

I miss those prices

i got a winchester m1 garand from a local gun store for $800 and just ordered 200 rounds of 30-06 ammo cant wait for it to get here
Great vid man. I live in Ohio and I'm gonna have to visit the camp perry CMP shop!
Please release vids to those that can't own (or even see in real) marvels like these. I think I'm going to see this video frame by frame... awesome.
Very cool, thanks for the suggestion - I didn't know that was an option.
the H&Rs are less collectible than the Springfields, mainly because they were delivered after the armistice was signed in Korea... but eventually, ALL real M1 Garands will be collectors items.
I have a Springfield 1942 Garand, things a tack driver , with open sights off the bench with hand loads does a inch group. Most modern rifles with scopes can't do that.
Yes, parts like manufacture and such. you might get a near perfect rifle or one that is all mis-matched.
The folks at the CMP are great. My HRA will be here soon. In the mean time I've been ordering everything that I'll need for it like Lubricate grease, CMP en-blocs, and stuff like that.
@92elcorbett
No it is located in Anniston Alabama. The CMP has two stores: Anniston Alabama and at Camp Perry in Ohio.
You can join online clubs. Garand Collectors Association is a popular one.
@Tex125
You can order from the CMP website and have the rifle shipped to your house. You must meet all the requirements found on the CMP website.

i just ordered an m1 Garand and at that price you cant beat it!
I live in Georgia. Can I just drive over to CMP and purchase a rifle, or do I have to have a FFL?
I'm in the Military with CAC ID and I have a firearms permit so proper documentation is no problem.
BTW, thank you for YOUR service.
@M1ASniper Congratulations, isn't the CMP awesome? I have a Garand and a carbine from them and I am very happy with both.
awesome,I could spend my whole day in there looking at that nice selection, nice video.i want a m1 garand soo bad...nothin like good ol american iron....How many guns did u buy in there?...just two?..I take it xmas came early this year for you....not fair ....your teasing us

Seeing this for the first time. I am in the process of ordering a service grade m1. Can't wait to get it, but I will be patient. When it arrives, I will be like a kid at Christmas.
I miss the high quality of videos from back then....
You wouldn’t believe the service grade M1 I purchased from CMP. It came from Anniston excellent shape with new wood and it’s a real great shooter!!! I’ve used it in matches out to 600 yards. No I didn’t place but got my rounds on the paper.🇺🇸😃
Wow what a great place to go christmas shopping!! I have never seen anything like it.
Great vid. Give all of us that can't get there a look inside. Now we should be expecting some Garand vids soon too, right :)
I'm accually planning a trip down to the alabama store do you remember if they had Special Grade M1 Garand's at the store? oh and nice video :)

man!!! i wish we had one of those around here, best i have is a guy who sells mosin, enfields, etc at 2-3X more than they're worth
Thank you sir. I will order mine by mail sometime soon. I wish I could go to a CMP store and pick one out myself, but unfortunately I live in central Illinois.
Holy crap mossberg 44's my grandfather gave me 2 extra's he had laying around. I fixed them up over the summer haha I didn't expect to see those.
Great video cant wait to get a garand from the cmp!
Oh! Makes perfect sense now :) So besides, the type of wood, is there anything else on the rifle that is "luck of the draw"?
Thanks!
Where can I find a place like this in South Carolina? Those are some great deals for Garands!

Oh man I just hear about CMP and and the amazing prices for the Battle Rifle that won WW2. I plan to get myself one or two. I'm so excited and very happy to know these guys exist. HOOYAH!
2 is always better than one!
But that leads to 4 is better than 2 and 8 is better than 4. And yet, it does happen that way. :-)
Would it be better just to drive down to their store to buy one rather than having on shipped and waiting 60 days?
The cmp doesnt have any of those rifles on their website. The only one still for sale is the garands
Can i expect an extensive review of those two rifles?
Lots of light, a bipod.. PLEASE!!
P.S. are already an ARFCOM member?
I did not know CMP had a store in Anniston. Might have to make the few hour drive to pick something up.
im planning on buying a new hunting rifle soon. since most bolt action rifles are well beyond $500, i think i should get an m1. would you recommend a field grade for hunting?

The wood is very light in color and highly polished.
I'm glad back when I got mine it cost less than $300. Where's my time machine??
The good old days..
@joeydodgemuddin I think you just sign up online for the civilian marksmanship program. Then once you are a member you get to go shop at there locations.
Garand Mecca. Absolutely stunning.
I live in Birmingham which is about 60 mile from Anniston, need to get up there.
Do you have to be a member of the CMP or whatever to buy a rifle from there?
@METALLIMAN545 to get anything from the CMP you have to be part of a group (gun club or ROTC school) that is approved by or affiliated with the CMP
Unfortunately the M1892s, M1903s, M1903A3s, M1917s, M1 Carbines, and the other rifles are pretty much gone, you'll have to find them elsewhere on the open market. If you want a Garand at a really good price, your best bet is to order by mail and wait your turn. The cheapest available right now are HRA Service Grades (made in the 1950s) for $625 plus shipping, which is about half the price you'd have to pay anyone else for a rifle in the same condition.
so they don't have any rifles that would be worth going to look at purchasing?
yotabogger415 Yes, from what they say in the emails they send every month or so, they are trying to catch up with a backlog of orders.
M1 Garand is my favorite gun. Man, that room almost made me cry. All those M1s, and i don't own any of em....
You're welcome! Glad I could help!
also im thinking of getting one of them garands from cmp. but im wondering how bad the Service Grade M1 Garand were. i mean u probably looked down the barrels and whats not. i mean id love to put out 900 on the Special Grade M1 Garand. but if its still in good enough condition i wont. or should i just put out for the special grade?
gun respect Dallas, Texas
what a great opportunity!
Thanks for posting this !
Great video. Thank you for posting it.
Wish my trip were shorter than that. I've got 2700 miles to go. A day and 18 more hours straight through. I could probably buy a rifle with all the money I'd spend on gas. Too bad there isn't a place up here in WA like that.
I just sent out my sales order today... Cant wait to get it!
