You can also build an M1 yourself by attending a CMP Advance Maintenance Clase. My son-in-law and I had the distinctive please of doing exactly that in Aug 2018 and we each came home with M1 rifles we built from refurbished components of M1 rifles that had come from abroad under government lending programs to other nations and fitted with new stocks and barrels. We had to test them at the Talladega CMP Complex before we were allowed to take them with us. That was a high moment in our lives. I strongly recommend attending a CMP maintenance course. You'll never forget it.
Got into the DMC/CMP program and matches back in the 90's. It's still my favorite form of competition because it's like zen meditation on mastering your fundamentals of marksmanship in field positions.
I agree, Go for Both the M1 Garand and the 1903 Springfield! LOL If I had the money and lived closer to a gun range I would love to have one of each! My late father wanted one of each, but he never had the opportunity or the money to get either one. He did shoot the M1 when he was in the Army from 1947 to 1950. I cannot remember if he ever said if he got to shoot the 1903, when he was in the Army, or not. Thanks for showing that great facility!
Great Shooting GT, if I may. Welcome to the Great State of Alabama, I practically live @ the CMP Range here in my back door. Jefferson Co. B-ham. Great to have you, @ such a wonderful range, as always excellent vid!!! 👍🏻USMC🇺🇸VFW
I live in Texas, but my family has had deep deep roots in the area. Was able to take my wife of 33 years and show her the beauty of Alabama. I have to remind her it's the only state, Texans will sing "sweet home" to.
Been to the CMP a lot since they've opened. It's amazing! They have shotguns also! Be sure to stop by the store in Anniston & Creedmoor Sports also. Great local company!
North AL shooter here. the CMP is a true gem of the south. I have a pic of me with garand in front of the garand statue. YES people do shoot 600 yds with iron sights. It is a thing. Hand loads bebe! love the channel, keep it up! We also run vintage multi gun there sometimes, way cool...BAMA FuddRunnerz representing! July 5th last year I snagged an ICH garand from that same shelf and also a 1903 Marine Core Rebuild w/Cstock from the bolt rack. the 1911 and Eddystone are next.
Great to see Brent of Creedmore; he’s a great person, and shooter! I Recently attended “Talladega 600” and it’s just fantastic facility with great staff and RSO.
Welcome to the world of High Power competition! I started out with an M1A, and still have my father's shooting jacket from the 80's. I do own an all original 1903A3, and a M1 as well. Congrats on the outing, and I hope you had a great time!
Not far from where I am. I'm just north of Huntsville on the Tennessee state line. We've been meaning to check it out sometime. We go to a range in Tennessee that's usually really quite & not much going on but it's a really nice facility.
@@mtnshooter2487 Not just that. Bill Clinton defunded the CMP when it was part of the military and made it a private entity thinking it would eventually disappear. Nice try Bill. The CMP today is self-supported and thriving. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the best - I repeat - THE BEST shooting range in the U.S. Ultra-modern using the Kongsberg target systems.
That is not anywhere near a common range even in America. I would love to be closer to where I could go try it out. But it's probably for the best I am not, I would never have a penny left in the bank after seeing that gun shop.
It always amazes me how so little rifle shooters shoot in field positions and are married to table top/bipod shooting; never developing the mastery of the fundamentals of marksmanship without shooting tables or bipods
When I was a kid ( I'm 70 now) my dad and uncles drilled it into my head... " the bench proves what the rifle can do. The positions prove what you can do with the rifle." I still shoot standing, sitting, and prone. I don't have bi-pods on any of my rifles. It's funny the looks from other shooters and some ranges don't even want you to shoot from any position other than the bench.
@@markgoostree6334 Same here about the odd looks and all my local ranges no longer allow anything other than off the table just in the last couple of years with the exception of matches. It's funny, I'll be the only one shooting off hand, then after a while a few others start doing it too after seeing me do it.
@@markgoostree6334 You're absolutely right. Bench rests do test the rifle more so than the shooter. I am so wobbly it is embarrassing now, but I do have a semi valid excuse. Being an above knee amputee adds a whole new level of complexity to putting a round on target freehand, especially with a .308. I will never be putting 3 on a nickle at 100+ yards again without a rest, but I can still drop a deer or 2 when the freezer gets low.
@@Dang_Near_Fed_Up Off hand shooting has always been my favorite position to shoot because it is the hardest to be good at let alone master. I used to spend hours on the range doing nothing but practicing my off hand. It was the most enjoyable for me because it was like Zen meditation in self control, trigger control, being consistent in your procedure, and the hardest is the mind control. I would have some good days where I would do really well, and other days I would do embarrassingly bad, and everything in the middle, but I didn't care because it was fun trying to be the best I can for me for that day. After having tore the tendons in both shoulders a couple years back, I can barely hold a rifle in the off hand position, let alone hold it steady. Definitely miss the good ol' days. 👍
I only shoot offhand. If you can’t shoot proficiently offhand you are not a real marksman. And I never used used a shooting jacket. Nor have I ever shot prone. Nothing against folks that shoot supported mind you. But it’s just not my cup of tea. Supported shooting is like riding a bike with training wheels. Lol
I wish you all would have went over the size of the x Ring and everything for the different ranges. I was actually there Saturday shut some real good groups but I can't remember what size the bullseye was to determine my group

Man! That's one hell of a range...... Cool! I like that you can see the report on the screen..

Awesome content. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
That place looks awesome
Been there and love it, not to far from my home 👍👍👍👍👍

Which range in TN? I shoot at SE as much as I can, or Skyline.

I loved this range. The staff both in house and on the range are super friendly and knowledgeable. So glad its only a hr ride from the house.

Not available here in Alabama either!
You gotta love the American spirit
Been shooting here at the "UNKNOWN " Wish they went out to 1760yrd but 620 is the farthest. How long are you in town?
This is why i can never catch Brent at the store! 🤣🤣
CMP range has been a hidden gem in Alabama for about 4 years. Thanks for ruining that.
Service Rifle used to be all iron sights which at 600 yards was quite a challenge. Looks a lot easier with optics.
It's definitely a different game now.
