The progression over the last 20-25 years in vert skating is amazing. You have to keep in mind, I think, that typical vert ramps today are much larger than back then. Today they are really launching pads for massive air.
most of these guys are owners of the current companies these younger kids are skating for. You dont know how nice it is to see one come out of retirement every now and then. I'd like to see the original Bones Brigade skate together again. That would be amazing. Johnson and Gibson used to skate for Zorlac. What happened to Billy Ruff? I had one of his G&S pro models when I was a kid. Neil Blender was a skater in his own right. Way different from anyone else. What happened to him??
I watched this too!!! Man, as a kid, I thought they went 'bigger'. I mean, these guys are ALL skate icons to me... Ken Park... That ESPN show really allowed a lot of smaller guys to throw down on tv. Not like that now...
my buddy Bubba Fasone & I got dropped off super early for this contest because my dad was heading out to ride his motorcycle in the desert, anyway, we walked right in, nobody was around, found our seats, stayed there ALL DAY. Ken Park gave us 2 sets of Vision Blur wheels for watching his wife Michelle's seat. I marveled at his red Rector Aggressor knee pads.
I respect anyone who skates better than I do as a skater, some guys just never got the right kind of coverage. Rob Roskopp is/was RAD. He may not have won contests, but he had awesome style & a burly bag of good tricks. He must have sold tons of boards. They are going pretty big for a 9.5' tranny? 1.5' of vert? Now the ramps are like 12' tranny & 2' of vert with those huge roll ins. They are blasting airs man, maybe not everyone, but HOSOI, Lester, T-Mag, Cab, Miller, they were really going for it. Lance too because Lance Mountain deserves mega recognition. They all do. Good post bro.
Not a judge, simply a commentator. Not really his field of expertise but KROQ was big back then and he was one of the main DJ's on KROQ. Think they were also a sponsor of the contest.
just WOW,i love you tube i would never be able to find this elsewhere. All vhs and huge camcorder days im surprised someone saved this.Great upload
Did he say that Micke Alba is the Master of Disaster? Duane Peters is the one and only Master Of Disaster...
+1 on that.
Don't forget Apollo Creed.
D. David Morin
Miller's style is timeless.

Billy Ruff had a shoe company for a while. ShaSha shoes.
Heads are doing McTwists, Blender & Gator are there, what year is this '86-'87?
I'd guess 1987.
Cab was just amazing. Really consistent too.
I think this comp was in an issue of Thrasher or Transworld Skateboard and these guys apparently didn't like the ramp all that much.
i skated with cab in 2005,was great. he still rips btw
Are these guys riding with lappers? How do they manage their disasters?
Thanks for posting
i have this whole video on vhs
I wish someone could time travel back to this comp and start busting tre flip fakies on that ramp and watch everyone shit themselves in disbelief haha
good blender footage. and check out Jeff Phillips laughing at Ken Park's goofy ass!
It's Gator
And since when we're boneless ones called foot plants
I didn't know that at lien air was called a frontside bone out
Can anyone tell me what year this was?
I'd guess 1987.

Can we still call it the gay twist ? Or is it the transgender twist now??🤣
These announcers are the worst.
