I'm not pregnant, but hopefully will be one day... And it would be interesting to see a video like "essential skin care for pregnant women" in which you show the minimum someone should do while pregnant (cleanse, hydrate, retinate (?) and protect), and how to replace retinol(s)....

LOVE THIS VIDEO! I struggle so badly with combination skin and finding products that fight my acne but won’t strip the dryer parts of my skin. Would LOVE to see more videos like this that go into depth about products that work for oily AND dry combo skin.

i’m not cassandra but i noticed my oily/combo skin transitioned to “normal” skin after i stuck to a routine of cetaphil, peach slices snail toner, and rhode barrier repair cream. obviously the same products don’t need to be used, but really dumbing it down to a 3 step routine helped get my skin back on a track to where i can now work on repairing scarring and dark spots. i hope this helped a lil!

I’ve been thinking about this so much lately. I have HS, so I have skin sensitivities anyways. But when I’m having a flare up, I feel so terrible, my water consumption goes way down and I get dry, flaky skin. For the most part, when I do get to properly hydrate, it feels like I’m constantly sweating (living in Miami doesn’t help) and I have to treat my face like it’s an oil slick. It’s so frustrating, but I appreciate you talking about this because it validated that there isn’t going to be one way for me to do things. I need to have different products for different times.

You spoke about finding it hard to find girls of the same mindset and I agree. I have 2 very close friends from school but I have very different views to them on most political/social issues. We decided a few years ago that whenever a "hot topic" Is in question we are not going to fight over each other's opinions. We voice where we stand on each issue. Except it and get over it. Honestly we would have had countless fights over the years if we hadn't learned to put beliefs aside and focus on our love for eachother.

I love your advice and tips because I too have combination skin but I tend to be more oily because I live in a tropical country which is almost summer all year long. I also had cystic hormonal acne since puberty which lead me to have deep acne scars. I still struggle with accepting my appearance especially when I had been bullied because of it. But ever since I follow your content and some of your advice especially talking about acne, it helped me make educated decisions when buying my skin care

I lean dry but the t-zone can be oily. Also have some rosacea on my cheeks and between by brows. I’ve found using salicylic acid on my t-zone plus lots of soothing, hydrating products has me in good shape. Primarily Avene, with LaRoche Posay, Vichy, the Ordinary, and By Beauty Bay sprinkled in. I sorted out a great routine between Cassandra, James Welsh, Dr. Dray, Mad About Skin, and Lab Muffin.

@@rachelgaleclark7860 AM- Bioderma Micellar water to cleanse, Byoma Balancing Mist, The Ordinary salicylic acid in squalane on my tzone, By Beauty Bay tranexamic acid/alpha arbutin serum (I have some hyperpigmentation from an old sunburn), Vichy Mineral 89 serum, Avene A-Oxitive serum, La Roche Posay Tolierane SPF 30 moisturizer. In that order.
PM ByBeauty Bay oat/chamomile cleansing balm, La Roche Posay gentle cleanser, the Byoma mist again, the tranexamic acid/alpha arbutin serum again, CosRx snail mucin power essence, Avene RetrinAl 0.5%, a mist of Avene spring water, then the Avene Tolerance recovery cream. In that order.
Avene is really good for redness and sensitivity, and so hydrating. Classic French pharmacy brands just work well for me. Over time with some tinkering I’ve found this routine does the trick. If my barrier seems mad, I’ll back off the actives for a bit and let the other stuff build things back up.

I don't multi-mask, but I do treat different areas of my face a bit differently. I have mostly normal skin, a bit oily on the nose and chin, prone to breakouts on the chin and jawline. I use a clay mask 3-5 times a week on just my nose and chin. It's an emulsified mask with glycerin and emollients, so it's not drying, but it's strong enough to minimize my sebaceous filaments - that is, it sucks some of the dark oxidized oil out of my pores. I usually do this while I'm getting ready for bed, because nobody has time to mask 5 days a week without multitasking. I also spend a solid minute massaging anhydrous cleansing balm into these areas before bed; this has been the #1 biggest factor in reducing my sebaceous filaments and overall breakouts. Sure I use the balm all over my face, but that extra time helps dissolve built-up sebum. I don't wear makeup, but cleansing balm has been KEY for me! When I'm breaking out, I apply a sulfur/SA spot treatment to my entire nose and chin. The rest of my face usually does fine with my normal skincare routine and biweekly AHA mask.

My issue is that I tend to have both dry flaking and a ton of oil and blackheads TOGETHER in my t-zone 😵🧐 to get rid of the dryness I have to use hydrating creams (extra and oils at night) and chemical exfoliant masks and serums. For the oil I use niacinamide and stopped using foaming cleansers unless I have makeup or sunscreen on my face because it makes the oil and flaking worse. I would agree that the extra oil could be FROM dryness BUT even after treating the dryness and flaking goes away I still get oily so I've jut accepted the oil and pat my face with tissues if its noticeable and move on 🙃

Omg you’re the first person I’ve seen describe my skin almost too a T! When I do the skin type test my face is so tight, dry and flakey on my forehead and nose, but at certain points during the day or in the evening it also feels a bit oily. I have no idea what to call my skin type lol, and go back and forth thinking it’s dry skin or maybe it’s just dehydrated. I’ve wasted so much money on products that either dry me out or break me out and it is so so frustrating. I’m glad somebody understands, thank you for sharing what has worked for you ❤

    • @greysgoils
      @greysgoils ปีที่แล้ว

@@Blossawm do you use chemical exfoliants as well? I used to have bumps on my chin, I think its from the excess oil buildup. The ordinary peeling solution mask changed the game for me in addition to the cerave cream which ill use together a couple times a week. The cereve cream every other night with niacinamide which also helps with oil control. You do have to build up to the full time of 10 min for the peeling solution tho, it's intense.

I'm mostly of European heritage, I have blue eyes, light skin and will burn unless I have sunscreen on if I spend an hour or so in the sun(maybe less, depends on the weather).
But, I will also tan. It takes a while, but I can build up a nice tan. Well I haven't done that since my youth, lol, but back in the day I would get a good tan going.

Thanks for the video, Cassandra. To the best of my knowledge, you can't "rebalance" combo skin. You have to treat the oily areas as such, and the dry areas as such. It must be very annoying to deal with.
In my case, my skin is generally dry, but some of my areas of my face are drier than others. So I have to moisturize some areas more than others. For example, my forehead is less dry, so I moisturize it less.

My nose can get a bit oily, particularly in humid weather. Before I knew what my skin type was, I knew I liked thick creams and products that say "hydration." That's what led me to realize I have dry skin. Never done the shower test, but I know my skin gets tight and almost kinda itchy feeling if I wash it without a moisturizer. I also know if I don't have enough oils/fats in my diet my skin starts looking dull and feels dry/rough to the touch. And in the winter my chin, mouth, and the edges of my nose all start to flake and peel if I stop my skincare. So yeah, dry skin with a mildly oily nose. Not a full T zone, just my nose.
