I lived in Japan for a year in the Navy. I can tell you the culture is AMAZING there! Great job capturing the Japanese life there. I always wanted to take a trip to Fukuoka and catch a game there, but never made it. Now I really regret it. Thanks for bringing us along on this awesome trip! ❤️
This is where Japanese highschool tournament happens. The High school tournaments in Japan for baseball is like a March Madness. Highschool players get drafted from highschool
Koshien Stadium is basically Japan version of Fenway Park, is also the host stadium of their High School Championship, which is basically the march madness of Japan
It's alot more like Wrigley considering the outfield seating, and seating color. Another NPB stadium (Mazda Stadium Hiroshima) was built with Fenway park in mind, but it opened in 2009.
Holy goodness this video was awesome! I'm going to Tokyo and Osaka in 2024 with a buddy who I met playing baseball and we are definitely going to games there and it's going to be so special.
I should mention that the Koshien is also known as the field of dreams in Japan. For high school tournaments its like your playing at a Olympic type atmosphere.
Zack, I love you because your brutally honest. You don't BS people.. And you are super genuine about it. Example: When you say you can't take people to games. You are just honest and say no, unless you pay.... It's pretty great, and it makes you super easy to watch... I love that you don't sugar coat things that other famous people would
I don't root for Hanshin Tigers. But this stadium has always been special to people who love baseball in Japan. I hope I will make it to the stadium in the near future. And I really appreciate the fact you have shown your respect to Japanese baseball culture.
Awesome to see this coverage on Koshien I was lucky enough to play on that field in 2008 against their Japan High School National team. Right after that high school Tournament in August In which Toin Won. Thanks again for this vid.
Another interesting stadium to visit is Met Life Dome of the Seibu Lions. Originally an open air ballpark but decided to add a roof in the late 90s. However, instead of building a perimeter wall with roof sitting on top of it, they opted to use pillars to support the roof. So there is gap between the top row of the stand and the lower edge of the roof. This feature makes this stadium the only non retractable roof dome which out of park homerun can happen!
Baseball under a blue sky on a warm summer day, like centuries old, in an outdoor ballpark that doesn't feel/look like an airplane hanger is just more magical.
I went to a Yomiuri Giants game at the Tokyo Dome and it was the most fun I've had at a baseball game. The crowd knew all the chants and we're super hyped. And the concessions are bomb. And the girls running up and down the aisles with kegs on their backs are pretty entertaining as well.
Great Japanese baseball video. I appreciated that you spent some time actually talking about the ambience and the stadium. Most American-made _my first Japanese baseball game_ are actually food and eating videos: I hate these, than I ate that, then I ate those over here, I drank a Japanese Coca-Cola and tried a lot more snacks. Really informative, entertaining video, Zack.
I still don't understand why MLB doesn't work out a deal to play these games in the states. It would be a day late but super cool on the MLB network. Better then watching re-runs. Go Tigers!
NPB is very protective of maintaining it's cultural authority in Japan, which is why they have the posting system to limit NPB players going to the gaijen MLB
I live in the UK and I love baseball so so much, and I haven't been able to find a youtuber that makes me feel like I'm at the games as much as you do. So personal- it's better than the MLB channel!! I hope I can one day do what you do!
When I first started watching Zack I thought he was some weird guy, but I kept watching his videos and now I can't miss one, totally awesome what you do for a job and its amazing how you make a living. A total inspiration.
I did a random search of Japanese baseball and found your video! The Hanshin Tigers are my favorite Japanese baseball team and it was so cool to see you go through there! My very first time in Japan ever was in Osaka and I had a blast! Some people kept saying I looked like one of the players and wanted to take pictures with me. I'll have to check out that museum when I go back. Thanks for telling us how to get a jersey! If you make your way to Korea (once our current situation ends), you MUST check out Korean baseball! The energy at these games are ELECTRIC! Now only if the Tigers can break the "Curse Of The Colonel"
I went to their home opener in the beginning of April, and I was beyond impressed with this whole experience. Wish I got my own keychain though. Can't wait to go back there!
That is one of your best videos! I live in China and I love going to the games in Korea and Japan. I wish you did more videos on baseball in Korea and Japan. The game is truly a passion here!
Japan is doing a good job making Baseball alive! I am not a fan of baseball, but I am becoming more a fan due to Ace of Diamond series!! I want to see Koshien!!! it’s something I want to do before I die!
Great feel of the atmopshere. Thank you for the video and also treating the park, staff and fans respectfully, not getting loud, annoying or drunk. My girlfriend and I want to visit Japan and we are definitely putting a stop in Koshien on the list. We want to sit in the bleachers cheering section. P.S. I learned a while ago that Bases Loaded 1 and 2 for NES were originally simulations of NPL hence the Central and Pacific divisons and the music was supposed to be the fans chanting.
Koshien Stadium hosts high school baseball tournaments every year in the spring and summer. It’s a elimination tournament so lose one match and it’s over.
I'd love to see more videos like this. Oakland has a few memorabilia spots to check out which means so does every stadium. Ball hawking is cool but this video had some special content
Oooooooh my. Looks like I’ll have to get to Koshien to take in a game as part of a bucket list trip to Japan. Also definitely will be following along now. And good tip on the free Hanshin Tigers jersey for foreigners deal.
About this Koshien studium. In every sommer the inter-high school baseball championship opens at the Koshien base ball studium. Representative high schools of each prefecture play game as tournament from 4000 high schools of all Japan. The representative high schools are 47 schools.
Hi I’m Japanese. I’m very glad you came to Koshien Stadium and enjoyed it. Please come back to Japan someday to watch some baseball games! 日本に来てくれてありがとう!またいつか来て下さい!
Koshien isn't the name of the city, but a reference to the year the ballpark was built, 1924, using the Chinese sexagenary cycle ("Year of the Yang Wood Rat Park"). The city is Nishinomiya.
Man you haven’t even seen how it is when the season is on the way. The stadiums are almost always full, and you can hear thousands of people singing, clapping and chanting the batter’s name in unison.
I remember the old Baseball Stadiums somewhere in Japan. Some examples are Korakuen Stadium at Tokyo near the Dome and the Hotel itself, Hankyu Nishinomiya Stadium somewhere in Hyogo close in Koshien Stadium, Tokyo Baseball Stadium from 1961-1977 in Arakawa and the Osaka Stadium that repurposed as a damn Housing Complex with parked cars inside that almost the stadium had no proper usage. And so on... Fujidera, Hiroshima, Gifu, Nissei and the Heiwadai close to Fukuoka Dome. I really love those stadiums as in Baseball was like common in Japan on early days (or maybe not)
Zach Love the videos. And love this one. A game that is a must see is the LG Twins Korean Baseball game. Hands down the most exiting regular season game I have been to with all the songs and and dancing. A must when u come to Korea
I was at the Tokyo series also. Great country and I love there passion for baseball. You should check out the winter leagues in Mexico. Great atmosphere
I've thought about living temporary in Japan at times, and now you make that decision a little harder to resist, lol. I love baseball and it looks like Japan loves it too.

GREAT video! You need to come back during the regular season (or playoffs) and experience the madness at its maddest!!!

We went to see the Hanshin Tigers last summer. Such a fantastic experience. We could learn a few things form their fans.
For those saying his streak is over, it’s not. Zack doesn’t count games not in the MLB.

Hey Zach, go back to Rogers centre please! I always have such a hard time catching balls there.
