Hello everyone!! Thank you so much for checking out the video. I think we need a full metal detecting WEEK to find everything that's left behind here. It's SO much land to cover, 50 people wasn't even enough. Let me know below if you'd be interested in participating in the future or any other group events you think we should do!
Brent you definitely need to do this again and give more lead time. Im in Tennessee and my dad is big into metal detecting. I would love to do a road trip with him and bring him out for your next event as a surprise. He would love that so much. Keep the videos coming i enjoy them alot.

Great video!! The "ring" at 9:42 is a Signet Ring and used for sealing an envelope with hot wax, the bust on the face is in negative form. After the author had inserted a letter into an envelope, it was held closed by pouring liquid wax from a candle onto the flap. The face would be pressed into the wax as it cooled making a positive bust on the envelope leaving a nice "personal touch" for the recipient of the letter to enjoy upon receiving it...
The seal was more than a nice "personal touch" or a pretty decoration though. An intact seal meant that the letter had not been read by prying eyes along its route to the recipeient. A broken seal meant the opposite. Seals were also often unique so that no one could open the envelope and then reseal it with a similar signet.
@@melantorja True! But I think the idea was a lot like the idea is with today and the lick-and-seal envelopes. Most people aren't going to go through all the trouble of heating an envelope over a steaming pot to open it and read it just like most people back in olden times weren't going to go through the difficult process of breakign a seal and painstakingly re-sealing it. The wax seal wasn't a perfect method of ensuring secrecy, but it was a good attempt.
This is the first episode that gave me tears since the hotel burnt down years back. Except this time they were tears of joy. So happy to see these hills alive again after so many years.
As a middle aged woman living in Australia with limited funds I probably wont ever get to visit Cerro Gordo but your passion and genuine spirit is truly inspirational. Thank you Brent for being you and bringing this little town to life for all of us to see.

Honestly.. This is the most wholesome community on the entirety of the Internet. Every single video I watch from you just instantly warms my heart beyond belief, really wish I could join you at Cerro Gordo and just live that life of absolute freedom and joy. One day maybe..
You're such a wonderful person, Brent! You're so selfless. You don't have a drop of greed or selfishness in you! People go greedy and wouldn't trust anyone on their property with a metal director, you did, you let people have their moment. Man, you're a beautiful soul! May God bless you and keep you safe! Loads of love and respect to you, from India ❤️
What an absolute haul. I love how enthusiastic you are about finding all of this stuff. A lot of people might look at it as scrap or junk, but I love how you can look at even the smallest piece of something and understand that it has a story of it's own. Every single object that you find there was handled by someone at some point, and each one of those people started life as a baby, grew older and had stories and memories they gathered throughout their lives. I bet if you told a miner in 1870 that, in the year 2021, someone would be showing their kettle or clock to thousands of people around the world, they'd laugh at you. Even if we don't know their names or their faces, we know they exist through what they left there, and that's what makes what you're doing so special.
Absolutely brilliant. Im from the UK not your country yet somehow I feel connected to this beautiful place. Your videos are amazing and I always look forward every new one you upload. One of my bucket list is to visit that place and stay in the hotel when it's built. Thank you so much for the great content.
I love everything about this and your channel. You're creating community in so many ways: In your ghost town, in the local area, among TH-camrs and in the world. It's simply amazing.
That's really awesome of everyone. That ring isn't just a ring with something carved into it, it's a signet ring. It was used with candle wax, melted on to a letter or document and pressed into the wax, the initials are whom it belonged too 🤔, very nice finds.
4:00-4:30 “sometimes people don’t let you come and metal detect on their property. So this seemed like a great opportunity” so sweet and such a true statement I love this community that you’ve built and I can’t wait till I have the opportunity to come out one day keep up the great work!!!
Cerro Gordo is on my bucket list. To be a part to any of it would be an honor, to meet you, explore, camp, ride the trails, help build, metal detecting granted I've never gotten into that would be fun. I think doing big events like this would bring so much artifacts back. Help preserve the history. I'd say one of the greatest things is that you have tackled so many things you've never done before. So great to see the following grow.
You should think about this as a long-term plan. Do it a few times a year around the same times so people can plan around it. Set up grids on a map and keep everyone together and extensively sweep each grid before moving to the next section. Maybe even having 2 sweeps, 1 for non-ferrous and the second for ferrous metals. This way it will only take a few years (depending on how often you do this) to sweep every inch of the town and surroundings. Can't wait for your big metal detector treasure find video that's coming soon! Keep up the good work!
You could simply give them utility wire markers those orange blue yellow white cheap flags and number them with each participants given number. Then the participant writes down a more specific number for discussing in the future that person 43 found item 27 and it was a nickel and that could be a way you could go back and grid I don’t know
There's something really special about what you have done out there these last 2 years in Cerro Gordo. I'm so happy for you that people are coming out to help and make new memories in your town. Thank you for all your dedication and hard work. It's super inspiring.
Metal detecting is a great hobby, first time I ever went out into just a random field that someone gave me permission to use, I found a coin token from 1849 which was used by employers to pay their staff which allowed the employees to spend the tokens in the mills. In the same field I found a royal artillery button from WW1, managed to trace back that they had used the area as training. It’s about the finding out the history behind the items after finding them, and your in a great place for some brilliant history finds! Enjoy your new hobby!
Aww Brent, could have watched this over and over, wish it had been longer. Don’t think you realise what a skilled film maker you are. Huge love from North Wales, UK 🤗🏴
What we’re witnessing with this event, and truly from Brent’s complete endeavor over these last 2 years is the physical manifestation of a new message to humanity: “What is most valuable requires seeking deep inside”. From the courageous exploration of deep mine shafts to the resurrection of historical buildings and stories, he’s showing us that the surface level life most of us tend to lead is great for staying busy and appearing productive, but it is generally accomplishing little with any deep meaning to the soul. It’s incredibly inspiring to see someone so positive, so compassionate, so dedicated, and so sure of his mission.
You are amazing Brent! What a fantastic idea, so much life on the mountain, looking for the past. I am floored by the distance people traveled to be there, and I especially loved that a dad had his two sons there, learning about history and it's importance. You may live alone at Cerro Gordo, but you are not alone in your quest to revive this mountain town.
Your videos give me hope in humanity when I start to lose it... living in a city and my line of work I really get 'stuck' sometimes into a mindset that people are bad at heart. Even though all your videos do each Sunday before I go back to work, this video left me especially recharged for the week. Thanks for making them, it's one of the small things that makes my week! And to everyone that got a chance to go to the first one, lucky you! I wish I wasn't on the other side of the country. You guys are AWESOME!!!
These people will live their lives never forgetting that moment they met people that share the same passion as them. Some or most might have never met each other and they might connect for future endeavors of exploring. You did this man! Bringing the common folk woman, man, kids etc all together for a really special thing. Just the willingness to explore and do something different. Start a new hobby. Amazing.
Brent, thank you so much for what you do. When I'm going through a hard time I can watch your channel and feel much better. Keep it up man. You're passion is such a positive one. Whether you realize it or not, just being you with your passion helps people from far away.
Brent, I got a mailer to be a Nielson Family. They asked about my favorite programming and I wrote in TH-cam Ghost Town Living. Awesome stuff, so happy to share what you share with me
Brent, it was great to meet you a few weeks ago! I was so stoked to, quite literally, stumble upon Cerro Gordo and run into when I had already seen your videos! I didn't put everything together until we were talking for a few minutes! I'm excited to see the progression and would love to volunteer one day when I make it out there next! If you want any architectural assistance, hit me up!
I really liked your analogy of how one more sweep with the metal detector must've been what the miners went through looking for gold or silver. Sometimes that last pass just when you want to quit turns out to be fruitful. Continue to love the channel and your efforts at Cerro Gordo. Someday hope to visit and do some photography. Keep up the passion!
I love watching the town getting rebuilt with the new people. They feel the same as you do. Also I thought it was great of other you tuber (Heavy D ) coming up and helping with the American hotel and the truck donation (army truck). All of those things keep me watching. The metal detecting was the icing on the cake. Great fun for the whole family.... TY Good Luck Brett, I am a fan😁 You know that the Ghost Adventure team (Travel Channel)did a show on your town too.

Thank you so so much for sharing the excitement of finding a piece of history and speculating on how it got there and what it went through, whose hands have carried it with them. It brings me so much joy even seeing children being able to partake in this! Thank you so much for sharing the history of Cerro Gordo and your experiences! Please take care of yourself and be safe! I am so glad I getting watch these videos, I haven't been able to work in over a year due to fainting and unexplained weight loss and pain. I really hope to one day be able to spend a day exploring Cero Gordo! By the way, I LOOOOVE your farm! What a dream! I can't wait to see all of your animals in a video again!
I could seriously listen to you weave your stories around and thru Cero Gordo 24/7! The universe sure knew knew what it was doing when it found you to take over and love Cero Gordo the way you do! Hurray for a wonderful weekend for all of you! Job well done! ❤️
The sense of community brought me to tears. I’d had a bit of a day and missing a community of my own and this was uplifting :) All these good hearted people.
You should put a card next to each piece and note the date and who found it, that would be cool to see and new memories to be made from the artifacts for all the participants.
Or even a video record/documentation/file saved on a cd/dvd that keeps a permanent record of every person contributing to Cerro Gordo. Could be sort of a Cerro Gordo 'year book' video-ized !!

That is amazing Brent and to find people who respect the history of a place like Cerro Gordo is also amazing I hope you are now going to take up metal detecting.
The town was sure buzzing with activity. Like the one man said it's almost impossible to metal detect on historical property. This was a great opportunity for them to do without getting in trouble.❤

Just up the road from where I've lived most of my life is a nature trail that I still walk down every once in a while, with the few small exceptions of some conspicuously placed stones there was no visible evidence that the area had ever been anything but forest. I'm 50 and only maybe 10 years ago I found out that there used to be an old saw mill, a gunsmith and a stone cutter whom used to have their businesses out there, so for the heck of it I bought a metal detector and took a look.I ended up finding what may have been either a well or a privy and found several objects near it including a flat button in the loose stone lining that had clearly been lost by the person whom built it, it's well over 150 years old if not much older. I have a suspicion that area is where the stone cutter used to work as I THINK I may have found part of a stone splitting wedge, which is pretty cool because he was the man whom carved many of the town's gravestones as well as other historic stone structures that are well over 200 years old. I also found part of an unusually small horseshoe that must have been on something like a pony or donkey, it was near the well/privy that given how deep it was was also extremely old and probably belonged to the stone cutter or whomever used that spot. Long story short there's something particularly satisfying about rediscovering links to a previously unknown past, especially when all visible evidence on the surface is gone like it is on that nature trail, it's like statements from people from the distant past announcing "we were here, we were real"
I found a log stamping hammer in my michigan woods and was able to trace the stamp back to a German immigrant, ended up there was a whole town lost in the woods over time. Lots of awesome artifacts
That's awesome. I know the feeling of amazement and wonder, thinking what people used to do there. On the way into the town rubbish tip is a sad, neglected looking building which it turns out is an Elizabethan manor house. Not far away the beauty spot car park turns out to be where there was a factory in the 1700s, at the start of the industrial revolution. It was attacked in a riot and didn't last long!
So glad i found this channel, Living in Australia and seeing the love n compassion you have for this town make myself n my wife want to be apart of your adventure into bringing a new sence of life to it, we just love what you bring to the channel, We'd give our eye teeth to be able to come and do some detecting in Cerro gordo. thks for sll you do...

Loads of love and respect to you, from India ❤️
Fantastic to see the community coming together and life returning to the old town!
Agreed! The community is the star of this town and the way it will continue into the future
Yeah hey mate. Makes me happy to know I might be able to visit one-day regardless of it still needing work or not.
Everyone looked so happy and kind, I love people like that who just always smile, makes me happy
The table was full of the past...so cool...if those things could talk. Love what your doing Brent. Have fun, all who's there.
it is unbelievable that one guy with huge dedication and big hearth can bring whole city back to life...!!!
Explained Perfectly
Absolutely brilliant. Im from the UK not your country yet somehow I feel connected to this beautiful place. Your videos are amazing and I always look forward every new one you upload. One of my bucket list is to visit that place and stay in the hotel when it's built. Thank you so much for the great content.
I love everything about this and your channel.
You're creating community in so many ways: In your ghost town, in the local area, among TH-camrs and in the world.
It's simply amazing.
Love that! Thank you. It is so cool to see the community around this town.
That's really awesome of everyone. That ring isn't just a ring with something carved into it, it's a signet ring. It was used with candle wax, melted on to a letter or document and pressed into the wax, the initials are whom it belonged too 🤔, very nice finds.
Have a merry Christmas and God bless amen.
Those kids are amazing. Shout out to our kids learning an exploring. So important. Shout out to all the people involved.
One love! its a beautiful thing to see.
Keep doing what you do Brent!
I hope to visit in the future.
You really have to make the museum fire proof!
this channel sparks joy
DUDE! You might want to do this again and make it a series.
I'd definitely watch all of it.
Please make it a recurring event!
people show up to help brett an are soo honest an give him whatever they found..i think brett brings out the best in alll the people who show up.
This would definitely be something that will contribute to the revival of the town at some point in the future
Very well said!
Nailed it, this is why I enjoy it so much.
Awesome to see the younger crowd out there and their level of excitement and involvement. The educational value alone is immeasurable. #historyiscool
I LOVE seeing a father and son spending time together. Such a great situation to observe and appreciate.
Amazing.
That seal ring is cool, the guy who owned it must’ve been of some importance to be sealing letters with his crest and initials
Brent, thank you so much for what you do. When I'm going through a hard time I can watch your channel and feel much better. Keep it up man. You're passion is such a positive one. Whether you realize it or not, just being you with your passion helps people from far away.
This channel has to be hands down the best channel i have ever found! Brent you are a true hero and preserver of history long forgotten!
Absolutely mate
Him & foresty forest are the best people on TH-cam
Brent, I got a mailer to be a Nielson Family. They asked about my favorite programming and I wrote in TH-cam Ghost Town Living. Awesome stuff, so happy to share what you share with me
Brent, it was great to meet you a few weeks ago! I was so stoked to, quite literally, stumble upon Cerro Gordo and run into when I had already seen your videos! I didn't put everything together until we were talking for a few minutes! I'm excited to see the progression and would love to volunteer one day when I make it out there next! If you want any architectural assistance, hit me up!
100% behind you Brett. Thank you for sharing your adventures with the world. Big love from South Africa.
Keep up the passion!
the stories that you tell what makes this channel special. and letting ppl come up and help is so refreshing. cant wait till the hotel is built!
Great job Brent, I love how you get everyone involved. Life truly is all about our connection to each other and you facilitate that with your resurrection of our great history. Thank you!
Heya Brent Shaun here all the way from little ol New Zealand! :) Just wanted to say Im lovin the adventures and trials and tribulations you are finding and facing while you rebuild and uncover the lives of these old buggers stuck out in the middle of nowhere!! Man what a life!! Thankyou for bringing it to us and preserving it for future generations!! Man was I hopeful I might of won your give away ring haha what an absolutely awesome idea that was! sadly it wasn't to be...I hope whoever did get it will cherish it. good to see the other you tubers getting in and helping too! Anyways Cheers to you and yours and keep up the good work and I shall watch from afar and marvel at the awesomeness that is your life and world!! :)
What a great Idea, it certainly keeps the town alive and it’s exciting for the people who visit. Well done. ❤️ Dorset, UK
Congratulations on making a ghost town live once again. I appreciate seeing the history
LETS GOOOOOOO BRENT!!!!!! Excited to see whats in store for this video!
Thanks for all the honest helpers.
I'm so glad I found your channel a few months ago, this kind of video genuinely feels good
You'll never be alone again you've created. a new wildest community of like minded people Cerro Gordo will now live on forever 🇬🇧🇬🇧
This was one of my fav episodes… There is something in our dna to treasure hunt, and dig, strange thing but true
I could seriously listen to you weave your stories around and thru Cero Gordo 24/7! The universe sure knew knew what it was doing when it found you to take over and love Cero Gordo the way you do! Hurray for a wonderful weekend for all of you! Job well done! ❤️
Amazing to see everyone setting out to add to the town's lost history.
One of my favorite episodes. Being an avid detectorist myself, sometimes the hobby gets cast in a bad light. This just goes to show the kindness and love for history most in the hobby have.
Thank you and keep up the best channel on TH-cam. You are a Rock Star!!
How amazing. What a wonderful community of people.
I hope you all had a wonderful time up there. Trying not to feel jealous as I would so love to visit one day.
I’m so pleased for you Brent. You are truly blessed with all the support you have.
Hugs 🤗 xx
It’s so amazing seeing you bounce back after the fire Brent! Keep up the amazing story telling & content!cheers
That's going to be epic❤️
Brent you are my 6 year old sons idol, he loves to watch all the new episodes! Thank you Brent for putting out so much positivity into the world and letting littles explore with you, you impact so many in such a good way. Thank you this is the best channel in our opinion on TH-cam.
Brent is genuine! I was very blessed to be able to hang with him for the day!
I'm really happy for all of you that got to visit and help dig up the history of the place's past. Well done all.
Brent your enthusiasm is electric which you pass to other people and you bring out the best in others. You will never have trouble in getting volunteers. People love history and I loved how old and young participated in your metal detecting weekend. Your story telling I really enjoy and your endeavour will be a success because you never give up and are a great communicator. I live in Western Australia and look forward to watching your adventures on TH-cam which I have watched from the start.
Wow amazing finds! Def need to do this more often Brent! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks for checking it out! Hope to have plenty more of these in the future!
I believe we are all temporary caretakers of history and have a responsibility to strengthen it. You have accomplished that already for so many. THANK YOU
As a coin collector, the coin finds got me especially excited. Awesome video!
Dude, you are the reason this has transpired, you have just adopted this place and a place in history by doing same. Kudos to you, also glad you didn't wither away by not taking care of yourself, please continue to continue.
Oh my, my father would absolutely love this. He lives in VT and I live in South Florida, and this would be the best adventure for us to come together. If you decide to have another, please add me to the list!
You know, Brent? Words cannot describe the elation I feel watching your videos. It keeps my spirit going & so many others. & I think when u have gatherings it awakens the spirits that have passed on whom had a strong connection there. The place & you become more alive & restored. I love ya!❤🎉😊
Thanks for sharing!!!
Great work guys. Sometime soon I’ll bring some of the big dogs from the detecting community up and hopefully add a few more pages to the history. Keep after it!
Kind of heart warming to see what was a dead mining town become a blooming community around preserving the history.
Cool About Time because I know there is some really cool hidden treasures !
This is one of my favorite videos
The people that come there because they genuinely love the history. And the stars. In the sky. Beautiful💙💙💙
This was really cool, nice to see there are still some good people on this planet
It is a true blessing that you of all people bought this town. Thank you for all the love blood sweat and tears you have put in.
