It makes me happy that three years later, you're still so enthusiastic. Even after all you've endured! It's been an honour and an absolute pleasure, to follow you on your journey! Big love from the UK. Can't wait to see the hotel finished. Good luck Brent.

It is very noticeable how much better the production has become. Almost too good? Kind of could be a show on the Discovey channel. What with how well edited it is. I dont mean that i dont still watch and like and look forward to every single video. But i do kind if miss some of the early grittyness, when you got that feeling of eerie isolation with you as you must have felt it sometimes. Nowadays even when you are alone it feels like you have a whole camera and sound team with you. Not say it is better or worse, just different. As you gained something, you lost something too.
One of the things I love about this channel is that Brett waits until he actually has something to show you before he uploads a video, rather than just posting content for the sake of it. You know you can make a coffee and watch something interesting for half an hour.
Finding the burial sites is amazing. What better way to pay respect to the people that made the town what it is then to mark their grave and pay honor to them.
@@GhostTownLiving The one that you can ID as Chinese might be nice to try to contact any living family. Is there a list of miners, I found several census taken of Cerro Gorgon, Keeler and Swansee but only a few years.
Brett, one thing that probably should be considered is that when Owens Lake was drained, it probably changed the local weather patterns which resulted in more of an arid condition. Those mammoth tree stumps that you’ve found in some locations are probably signs of a wetter climate, which would also support the higher demands they had for water. I would not be surprised if the older wells prove to be currently dry. But with the growth of Owens Lake, I’m very much curious if you will begin to see an increase in the amount of rainfall, humidity, and heavier morning dew that could lead to more plant growth and the return of many of the older springs and water sources.
I agree and even if it is just marking off the area so no future development disturbs the area, thank you for once again preserving history the good the bad and even areas some don’t like to talk about but what is apart of history.

Wow Brent the transformation in you over the last 3 years is amazing! When you started out you were just this guy from Texas who had a dream but didn't really have a clue how you were going to get there. I remember when I deist started watching you it was still 2020 and you were struggling with trying to do just the most basic of repairs. Then when the American hotel turned down it was like you had watched your dreams go up in flames with the hotel. Then it was like there was nothing other than trying to survive and figure out how to bring the hotel back. So many setbacks so many things that made you look like you were being beat down. Yet somehow you brought life back into Cerro Gordo. You broaden your horizons and now there is the potential to have water up there again. You look nothing like the guy we knew 3 years ago. You are a completely different person. You have become the soul of Cero Gordo and potentially for the surrounding areas. And to think it just started out as moving in for the care taker so he could be with his wife during lockdown. What started out as just a few seeks has turned into a lifetime. I hope you continue to make it great.❤
You are still hands down one of my storytellers ever. Half of the magic of Cerro Gordo is in how you honor it, how you share it while preserving it... you inspire so many of us! Someday, I hope I can visit.
As a 77 year old retiree I want to thank you for your regular videos (from day 1) that continue to feed and renew my own adventuring spirit Brent. I am excited, right along with you, for every new discovery and accomplishment, despite all the challenges and setbacks. So many possibilities still opening up! I wonder if the DNA from even one of those graves could provide any identification and information about that person and also life in Cerro Gordo. Looking forward to your next video!!! 😊🦮
HELLO! My name is Melissa and I have been watching you since you uploaded "Living alone in a ghost town" or somethin' like that and I love, love love every upload, every success, every disappointment and every comeback you have shared. I have been a Patreon supporter to rebuild the hotel from the time of the disaster, to a customer purchasing nails and mugs and hoodies! Now I watch and support in any way I can because one day, I will BE THERE. Love, love, love Brent and all the people who surround and support him in his vision to preserve the past for the future!
Sadly, the projection for Owens is probably similar to Tulare Lake. 2 - 3 years, unless the wet weather pattern continues. We have always conserved water (my Mother was born & raised on the family ranch in Brawley, CA, in the very early 1900's. In the desert).
I think this will become the new normal pattern. Owens lake will go away in a year or two, and then come back in another 50 when the next deluge strikes the west coast.
Hi Brent, I am in Australia and have been watching your journey pretty much from the start. I love the exploration and discoveries in your beautiful town. It's not a ghost town anymore (although there are probably many ghosts there) , as you are creating new memories and history there. Soon hundreds of people will be visiting every year, if not thousands. I would love to have a drink in the American Hotel. Good on you for investing in something that has made you happy. Cerro Gordo lives again!!
I think this video is one of the best yet. Your enthusiasm seeps through your voice as you tell us of new explorations, the progress of the American Hotel, and the renewal of Owen's Lake. One could call it a resurrection of the past. Are there times you wish you could travel back in time and witness for yourself the past alive again? Wonderful video, Brent. I've watched your videos since the beginning when you had to walk in the snow, in total darkness into the town. Now I see how you have grown as a person, with a firm plan as to your future and the future of Cerro Gordo. At the end of all your videos you say "Thank you for subscribing," but I want to thank you for letting us, and the world, follow along you along your journey to the future of Cerro Gordo. Thank you so very much, Brent. Never stop wondering, never stop your curiosity, never stop the adventure that is your life. I can't wait to see what is goìng to happen in your next video.
Brent, I don't think you will ever know the impact you are having on so many people. I look forward to your videos so much. I told my wife after I watched this latest one, I have started unsubscribing from people that don't have a positive impact on my life because I feel better when I watch stuff like this. The world is full of so much negativity, and you are that bright shining light at the end of a long tunnel showing the world there is so much joy in history and learning. I have thought this for many years, people for the most part are good, honest, hard working, just want to be left alone, but willing to help a friend, neighbor, or even a stranger out. Your journey with Cerro Gordo proves that and so much more. So a big THANK YOU for sharing this amazing journey and adventure of a lifetime. You are not only uncovering history, but making it. Your humility and gratefulness shows in your life and of all the things you can be, one of the very best is a great role model and you my friend have achieved it.
I think its absolutely wonderful that so many people are so interested in Cerro Gordo. And that so many people with diverse skills have been donating their time and effort into helping you. I can't wait to see what you have accomplished in the next 10 years.
That is so respectful and major important to make the burial sites such an important part of the redevelopment of that town!!!! AWESOME JOB!!!! It will really help you map out the land and do things where they should be done respectfully! You're doing such an awesome job!!!!!!
Cerro Gordo and the Owens Lake Valley are now gems within California. Keeler and the other towns are going to benefit from Owens Lake and Cerro Gordo. It seems that all of your efforts for Cerro Gordo are having a positive effect on the entire area.
Owens Lake is not coming back, just to be clear. It will contain water for upwards of maybe 2 or 3 years, but it will return to a dust bowl after that. LA is still using more water than it ever has, placing record demand on its water sources. And the Owens Valley is still just as much a source of LA's water as it ever was.
@@-108- you are correct, but what a site to behold for those few years. I've been traveling the 395 for more than a decade and I have never seen it like this.
Brett, you are an incredible person. Young man with a very old soul, incomparable determination, and a tender heart. I respect your attention to those souls buried around Cerro Gordo. I am excited every time you update us. And I also LOVE seeing you with the animals. I love chickens & goats, but live in the suburbs, so have a cat (used to have 2 dogs, 5 cats, & a pet tarantula). I am a disabled senior & your message helps me so much. Many, many blessings.
The algorithm hasn’t surfaced your content to me lately so it wasn’t until I checked my subscriptions feed did I stumble across your video. It’s like coming back to visit an old friend. Thank you for continuing to do hat you do and sharing it with us. Lord willin’, we’ll come visit one day.
Thank you all so much for all the support over the past few years! It means the world to me and really has brought this town back to life. By any chance do you have a website where you upload these independent of TH-cam? A simple video "archive" that (if TH-cam went belly up) Stayed around? I ask, because In reality, I believe 100% in what you do... history should be preserved. But I don't agree with TH-cams hypocritical rules... I believe you could set it up, put a few sponsored ads on the site and draw way more attention! Even if it's TH-cam hosted at first then gradually goes independent after making enough from ad rev. I want to directly help you preserve history by suggesting you cut out the middle man. A "forum" for discussing videos, topics etc could be beneficial as well. Just ideas and best wishes!
I don’t know why I was recommended this. But I love it. The desert, the positivity, the determination, the stunning views. Keep up the killer work man, I wish you nothing but the best. 🌵
@@RMJ1984 the issue isn't so much that it's being drained the issue is that the water that should fill it is redirected for the LA Aquaduct. While the LA Aquaduct still exists the City of Los Angeles are legally required to not allow Owen's Lake to refill other than in cases where the capacity of the aquaduct is exceeded (i.e. during periods of intense flooding). There's two reasons why this is the case the first is because of a level case brought by the Natural Soda Products Co (who went bust in 1952) and the second is a case between the city and the state. The TLDR is that currently the City of Los Angeles has to pay for all the dust control stuff (it's cost them $2.5 billion at this point) but cannot refill the lake. If the state allowed them to refill the lake by removing the 80+ year old court rulings then the liability for costs will then go to the state as the owner of the lakebed so I can't see that happened.
you can´t preserve what is gone.. you can rebuild it (if you feel like building stuff that doesent last or have a real use) if he is building gravestones that last longer then the old ones it is also not historical correct for example.. we have building that are thousinds of years old in this world, my house was build when Cerro Gordo was made back in the time. it is still standing, and now it is a low energy house and i dont miss the old🤣 Cerro Gordo reminds me of high chaparral in sweden or Dodge City a mix of circus and tourism and not a museum
I can't believe it's been 3 years. I've watched since the beginning when it was so empty and I wonder if you were mad to take it on. 😊. That being said it's so frigging cool. I love watching dogs work and sad to know so many "outcasts" were just buried outside of what people then thought were "decent" people. They all deserve a memorial Going down a shaft makes me feel sick to my stomach. You're so brave or mad! 😅. Love your content one day I'd love to visit. Love from the UK 🇬🇧
Owens Lake will not last more than a couple/3 years tops. It has water in it now due to a record snow pack, whilst the demand on that water is higher than it's ever been. Even if CA becomes wetter for a decade or more, the demand for water from the Owens Valley will still outweigh the supply. And if every year became like this last year, for snowfall, LA would simply see it as carte blache to take even more water from the Owens Valley, making Owens Lake dry again. There is no quenching So. CA's thirst for water.
. It's just mind blowing how that grass seed laid there all that time waiting for a drink of water. No matter how hard man tries to beat mother nature she always wins in the end.
This is definitely an important endeavor ! The cultural importance of Chinese miners is so important . I hope find them and honor them in ways people over 100 years ago did not because of their own ignorance.
It’s nice that you’re finding the gravesites of those lost at CG. It’s fitting for them to be remembered for what they’ve accomplished or provided for CG!
I've never in my 41 years have wanted to visit a place more than 'Cerro Gordo'. I will make it there one day. Thank you, Brent, for refurbishing back history. In a more comfortable way. Been following since day one. Continue sir. Wish i was and am able to help. Live in DC.
Wow what an amazing and inspiring journey! When the American hotel is done I want to come and stay! I am a photographer who lives in Ireland and it is my dream to make a photo book with you showing the beauty of Cero Gordo as well as putting some of the history and the stories left behind by the people that once called this place home into print to be preserved for generations to come. What an interesting story one of distant history as well as this new wave of life in Cero Gordo which one day generations to come will look back on as we do on the miners in the 1800’s
I find it truly amazing how many people, people with very select and unique talents and/or resources come to that precious town to help. I think they also share your passion of history and establishment to perhaps 'BE' apart 'OF' that history, and that's encouraging and respectful. I will not devalue the countless hours of precious manpower it took to actually build/rebuild; Roads: Buildings; Water resources; Exploration; Etc... There is no price you can put on the love and admiration these people employ to Cerro Gordo and its surrounding areas. I admire and applaud them and you Brent for bringing history to life once again and hope you will continue this epic adventure
I’ve been with this channel since the very beginning and I can say that it’s honestly breathtaking how quickly this channel has grown and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here❤
I cannot wait to see more about this, it's absolutely fascinating 😍 actually, I've been fascinated with this channel since March 2020, when it was my 40th birthday but society was closed down and I watched TH-cam on the day you released your first video. I've never missed an episode. Thanks so much Brent for 3 years and 3 months of fascination and excitement and even some tears 😢 I got a wee bit emotional seeing the progress on the American Hotel 🤭 Much love from Perth Western Australia 🤘💜🤘🇦🇺🦘
I drove past Owen's Lake yesterday and it was so nice seeing water in that basin. I was on the far side of the lake traveling south and kept looking up at Cerro Gordo thinking about what is happening up there. I wish me and the family had time to stop by. Maybe next time!
Brent, you are the heartbeat of Cerro Gordo. You are the breath of new life, and I believe that because of your love and respect for the mining town, it is revealing more of itself to you. Even going so far as to return the water. We all know that water is life, and I can see the rebirth of Owens Lake is the land blessing you for the care and respect you have given it. As morbid as parts of this video , it's good that you pay respect to the dead of CG. They played a big part in the making of the town, and its only right they, too, are mentioned. What an exciting video. Lovely to see all the animals living their best life. Take care and stay safe. Hugs from leicester England xx
Wow! Everything around you breathes life. With your determination and hard work, you have breathed life back into this entire area. And you have a following of supporters and volunteers who want to help bring this town back to life. Thank you for this wonderful video. So much progress and the vision is within reach. Well done, Brent! I cannot wait until the next video. Until then, take care. PS: Thank you for sharing the animal updates. They are a treasure 😍🥰❤
I love to see your excitement over progress and discovery. I love that Owens Lake is refilling, that mother nature is reclaiming what was always hers. Thanks for the animal update, as a catmom im always interested in how pets and other livestock are doing! All the best to you; as usual, please take care to stay safe and healthy in all aspects of life!
As my channel name suggests, I love history! And I love your passion for the history- the people, the events and now even archeology... Never stop loving our past- without it, we'll never love our future.
When I watch you uncover the history of Cerro Gordo from 150 years ago, I wonder if 150 years from now people in Cerro Gordo will tell their history like: "You know this town used to be completely abandoned until about one and a half century ago, but this guy Brent buys this town and moves here from Texas. This was back in the beginning of the great pandemic of the 2020s . So he began rebuilding the town while documenting everything on something that is called a TH-cam channel. Back then VR tech had not replaced every form of entertainment, so people would watch his videos on flat screens."
Owens lake filling back up has me so happy. Ive been driving by for years now so sad at the thought of a huge lake that would and should be there. I hope it stays this way for a long time and i hope we get more snow and rain this next winter to keep it going
You are doing the correct thing to find “Consecrated Plots” for which a monument for the Unknown Miner can be erected with a spot for visitors to sit & pray for their souls.
Brent, been watching your videos since you started this journey. Sitting here thinking after this last video. I don't think there could have been a more appropriate person to carry on the history of Cerro Gordo. Things happen and you just buckle down and push through. Not a lot of people can say the same. It is very noticeable the love you have for the former glory of this town and what it meant. Also you are doing a fine job bringing the continued journey to us viewers. Doing great my man, keep up that strong spirit.
It is amazing. Your journey is proof how one man can make a difference. You have been sticking it out there alone and in times where it might not have been hopeful. Yet you have persevered. They say sometimes just starting is the key and the rest will fall in place. Keep standing. Keep dreaming. Keep hoping. Thank you for sharing this with us all!
History is wealth, Brent what you're doing is making a wealth of knowledge and sharing it to anyone who's both interested + wants to absorb it, I appreciate and thank you for the years of adventure you've made for me, I'm hoping to visit at some time God Willing until then keep it coming.....
Yoo I am from the Netherlands, I really like to see how you build up your own town. It’s satisfying to see everything come together. Like your vid’s, keep up the good work
Such an interesting episode. I'm amazed by the skill & abilities of the dog and his owner. I'm sure all us viewers join you in sharing care & respect for those who are buried there.
Three years, it doesn't seem that long, You started on this journey. Following your videos has been so refreshing and such a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing your experiences and love for this beautiful place. It's an utter joy to follow you from Australia
You are definitely the right person to resurrect this old town and it's mysteries. Not only that, but you have quite the gift for story telling, which makes you a fabulous volunteer for this job. Carry on!
Seeing Brent this excited about Cerro Gordo and asking questions about it and explaining the way he sees things, it reminds me of my time as a missionary around Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. There is indeed so much history attached to locations, and when we learn about it and invest in it, it really does become a part of us.
Love all of the video, but the section with Paul and Bosco is so fascinating. I wonder when/if the bodies on the 200 level where the collapse was will ever be found? It is really interesting to think about. Cerro Gordo is so cool!
It’s amazing to see all the progress since I was there. I had hoped to be back sooner but maybe there will be a hotel and running water when I return again. Congratulations on your never ending journey!!
I do love your passion and excitement for Cerro Gordo and Lake Owen, Brent. I hope that hearing you speak of your own hopes and dreams is stirring others to dare to dream and hope for better also. ❤
i glad Cerro Gorod has found you and inspired... you because your videos make me happy ...it is awesome to see what you are up to ... the footage of the mountain is always amazing .. glad to see you again/..
Awesome video, the goats trying to eat your tripod was my favorite part of the video. Also, I find it amazing how we try to shape nature, but nature shapes us.
I love to see what your doing and finding things in your adventures and having me rooted to the TV . Wow you love your holes to check out down there and it frightens me. Very interesting having the dog do a survey and what you found. That rock blaster was insane and hope you find those water springs. Thank you Brent for showing off your family of pets in this great video with plenty of curious information.
Jesus can't believe it's been 3 years , I haven't commented in a while but I'm always watching, so amazing finding more and more history, it makes you wonder how many people are under our feet🇮🇪
Absolutely stunning, I never want them to end. So interesting and informative and your passion is palpable. Looking forward to the next video on the exploration past the 900ft level. What a huge blessings with so much rain and snow and that the decision was made to put the water back into the lake. Water is life and you will soon see so much beautiful wild life return. 🇨🇦
I signed up for your news letter and I haven't received an email or any notification for that yet. Did you cancel it? Regardless, the love you have, and continue to pour into Cerro Gordo, is inspiring and admirable. Thank you for posting your journey with this crazy and hauntingly, beautiful town. If possible, will you do more videos on the library in the future? The library is my favorite and I hope to be able to visit one day. Thank you, again. Have a blessed day, week, month, or however many years you are able to take care of the town you love so much. You are awesome, dude. Be safe!!
One of the most unique and interesting channels on TH-cam. We are just watching this guys life adventure in rediscovering our history, ancestors and building of America. Simply amazing and I never knew that I needed this... seems we all do.
This is amazing! The burial grounds are an important part of the history there. Like you said, there were 4000 people there, there was a death almost every day! Where did they put them??? Every day your there is like a new page in a book, a new discovery, another story…..this last 3 years has been an amazing adventure, not just for you, but for what you share with us! Can’t wait for the next chapter!! Take care Brent!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Brent your a amazing story teller, you mine history out of the mountains and teach it to everybody with your videos even the process of finding that history of it is mesmerising. You remind me of a amazing teacher i had at school it was years later i realised he had to be that enthusiastic about the subject matter to 1000's of other kids for years and i respect him for that so much. Times have changed and your enthusiasm in your content and bringing people to help you with there enthusiasm to unearth amazing history for everyone on this planet with Internet access to enjoy to learn to take themselves back to times past. Thank you for the sacrifice you have made to bring this to us all the videos cant possibly show the hardship up there but you don't see it ether because the people there before you had it so much harder. Without the story the people the history its just a nightmare of a place up a mountain with holes in it. ❤
In the lockdowns (here in Swansea UK) I got to watching YTs about general high desert sierra type America, gold rush stuff & abandoned towns, as well as that sad strange story of the M Cave. And that's how I came by this channel. I love this whole story, thanks for doing what you do.
First of all, you're such an athlete! The climbing and hiking you do is amazing. The dedication to exploration makes everything that was old new again. Kudos!
I have watched you from the very beginning and I love how you are honoring the history of this town and the people who lived there. It is really cool you are looking for the grave sites and the honoring of those individuals that it will bring.
Brent, what an excellent video! I've been following you and your journey for some time now. As I watch the re-build of the American Hotel, one thing I worry about is the hazard posed by construction fires. I hope that the crews are putting in place hot-work and fire watch procedures diligently. I have seen a number of construction fires during my career which start out of seemingly nothing. Please take care and be super proactive on these simple to implement preventative measures which can prevent catastrophe. Thank you again for all that you are doing!!!!
It’s an awesome site to see. You have done so well. I’ve watched you these past few years turn this old town into something amazing. The lake coming back is also beautiful, giving the land new life. Amazing Job.
I come back to check on this channel from time to time. It is so nice to see you are still here and taking on this project. Such a small comfort to see when I have my phone in hand, laying in bed for the night

Fantastic progress on the hotel. I am hoping that Owen's Lake keeps filling and stays around for many years now.
Its so wonderful to see the water coming back, water bodies are so important, lots of good energy!
As long as someone remembers these individuals it is another form of immorality. Thank you so much for finding them and remembering.❤️
did you mean immortality?
@@southernbreeze3278😂 i sure hope so
Hi Brent, I am in Australia and have been watching your journey pretty much from the start. Cerro Gordo lives again!!
yes
I am Australian and i have been watching since the first few thousand subs too! should we make it two Aussies having a drink at the American hotel?
@@Abandonedadelaide He hasn't even finished the rebuild and you already want to destroy it? Haha!
@@shoutatthesky What do you mean i want to destroy it? I explore abandoned places and history .
@@Abandonedadelaide It's a joke mate. Aussies are pretty notorious for getting rowdy at pubs.
Oh wow, thank you so much for this note! That means a lot! I appreciate you checking out the videos
Lol no you won't.

If you're interested in coming up and helping in any way at Cerro Gordo this summer, we'd like to host you! Here is a volunteer form if interested! forms.gle/6H9c9n12QWNnyGSD6

By any chance do you have a website where you upload these independent of TH-cam?
A simple video "archive" that
(if TH-cam went belly up)
Stayed around?
I ask, because In reality, I believe 100% in what you do... history should be preserved.
But I don't agree with TH-cams hypocritical rules...
I believe you could set it up, put a few sponsored ads on the site and draw way more attention!
Even if it's TH-cam hosted at first then gradually goes independent after making enough from ad rev.
I want to directly help you preserve history by suggesting you cut out the middle man.
A "forum" for discussing videos, topics etc could be beneficial as well.
Just ideas and best wishes!
The future is the past, soon to be present again.
Hi Brent! I have something to discuss with you. How can I reach out? Any email address I can send you an email to?

What a beautiful site! The rebirth of Cerro Gordo AND Owens lake, magnificent! You and this amazing historic town deserve this!
Yeah especially if people could stop draining it and learning from past mistakes.
If the state allowed them to refill the lake by removing the 80+ year old court rulings then the liability for costs will then go to the state as the owner of the lakebed so I can't see that happened.
you can´t preserve what is gone..
you can rebuild it (if you feel like building stuff that doesent last or have a real use)
if he is building gravestones that last longer then the old ones it is also not historical correct for example..
we have building that are thousinds of years old in this world, my house was build when Cerro Gordo was made back in the time.
it is still standing, and now it is a low energy house
and i dont miss the old🤣
Cerro Gordo reminds me of high chaparral in sweden or Dodge City a mix of circus and tourism
and not a museum
Cemeteries are hugely important to understanding the community that was ! Glad you highlighted it!
It feels like real life minecraft. Exploring, building a town and living the good life.
Keep on building Brent! 🙏

They all deserve a memorial
Going down a shaft makes me feel sick to my stomach. You're so brave or mad! 😅.
Love your content one day I'd love to visit. Love from the UK 🇬🇧
Owens Lake and the view surrounding it is so beautiful. Let's hope the water stays another 100 years.
Glad to see you showed the animals. I wondering how they were doing! Great catch-up video.
Live in DC.
The lake is a gift for all your hard work
Wow what an amazing and inspiring journey!
Damn near everything in this video put m in Awe!! Graveyards, new mines, the lake!!! Well done again Brent and Cerro Gordo, the rebirth is coming!!

I cannot wait to see more about this, it's absolutely fascinating 😍 actually, I've been fascinated with this channel since March 2020, when it was my 40th birthday but society was closed down and I watched TH-cam on the day you released your first video. Much love from Perth Western Australia 🤘💜🤘🇦🇺🦘

Thankful for your hard and dedication to bringing back CERRO GORDO. I'm a big fan of your journey ♥️♥️🐕
Wow.
In Texas, we have burial ground for families who died of the “Fever”.
You can't pray for dead people. Their souls are in 1 of 2 places.
Lately I’ve noticed there’s light back in your eyes and this video really highlighted that. Thanks for all you do!
