Can you record video with the Facecam Pro? I am concerned about buying it for making TH-cam videos if it doesn’t support video recording, as that would be a waste of money.
Your videos are incredible, I never care to look for someone’s sub count to correlate that to their quality of content And this is a prime example, assumed you would be 100k subs minimal

I want to record video for remote recording for my podcast, but not sure i want to keep setting up and taking down my camera all the time. My windows pc and the camera hub program show the elgato facecam mk2 but I can not see a video everything is just black. I already installed the program again.. unplugged the cam.. started the pc new.. updated the firmware.. nothing helped. I bought the cam today :(
Yeah, but then once you set the automatic exposure you can plainly see the shutter speed is at 40, which breaks the 'unwritten rule' of camera right, based on what you said? So Ill ask why would you want the shutter speed so high if the slower speed is in fact what you are trying to obtain in the image?
What do you think about something like an Elgato Facecam Pro MkII (basically a FC PRO with 4K60 and the color science of the MKII) Or would a dedicated camera be better at the price point of this?
Great question. I actually asked if they were making a Facecam pro with hdr but they couldn’t confirm or deny. My assumption is that it will be since the cheaper face cam neo has hdr, and elgato has a tendency to make newer versions of models.
The"rule" for ISO is to use the native ISO, not just as low as possible. You needed to increase your ISO. When you hit Auto, it adjusted the ISO up to 200. You could have done that manually and kept the appropriate shutter speed.

@stevealexander7772 nice. I Just sold my c70. C100 looks great. If you want the tac sharp image , 4K pro is awesome. If you want the better color, mkii is the one. Either way, I think both are great.
I still like the original Facecam the best -- I have 2 of them. I tried the Neo, thinking it would be "almost" as good, maybe suitable for my son. I was hugely disappointed. The auto "focus" is a bad joke and the auto-color is a weird green -- OK, I expect to set those manually. But unfortunately the image is so lacking in range that your 2 choices are either washed-out or dim and muddy , and no amount of fiddling in Camera Hub could make it acceptable. The Neo is not worthy of the Elgato name, and NOT worth $100 -- I have bought $10 and $15 webcams with better results. Thanks for the full and fair comparisons here.
To me the Pro looks better and the MK2 HDR is a total gimmick, all it does is mushes the image and makes it very soft and you lose all the detail. Also shutter speed 180 rules are really for motion, you're not moving much on a webcam so a 1 to 1 ratio is completely fine aka 60 shutter speed. When you use automatic it's most likely using a dynamic shutter speed and defaulting to 30. You also don't really need HDR indoors lol, unless you're sitting in front of a window for some odd reason.
I get where you're coming from, and you're right about the 180-degree shutter rule being more relevant for motion-heavy shots. But even with webcams, sticking to a 1/50 or 1/60 shutter speed helps keep movement looking natural during streams or video calls, especially if you're moving around a bit. As for HDR, I agree that it's not always necessary indoors, but in certain lighting conditions-like uneven backlighting-it can really help balance things out. MK2 HDR isn't perfect, but for some users, it's more about solving dynamic lighting issues than sharpness. Appreciate your take though, it’s good to hear different perspectives on these features!
@@Blasten I think if a user cares enough to spend $200 on a webcam, they aren’t sitting in a horrible lighting condition. I know from people I work with in the software industry they are mainly using their built in cams and fake backgrounds or an external webcam and fake backgrounds. Any streamer isn’t going to have bad enough lighting for HDR but I guess “maybe” there’s a niche group of people. I was told to spend $25 on a webcam lol, I chose to just buy it out of pocket with the intent of streaming also. The MK2 does decent in lower light anyways and the noise is not that bad when you consider compression with streaming.

as long is the image is clear, and the audience enjoys the image, i believe you can break them. Image quality comes first before rules.

Wich webcam is better for 1080? Mark2 or the pro? I have an el gato key light and green screen.
Mkii looks more natural. If you want to zoom in or record video and punch in, pro will be the move.
