20 Years OVERDUE?! I STRUGGLED To Pressure Wash This Beautiful OLD Patio

- Doomed from the start?!
This pressure washing clean was a true test of my willpower, from losing footage of satisfying chemical treatments, the baking sun, and the thickest black spots I have encountered so far.. on a fragile surface to boot!
I am always learning so would love to hear your feedback on how I can jet wash better.
I hope you enjoy this video and I can't wait to have a chat in the comments below!

Orange ... is also a color you find a lot in the buildings in the Rhineland and Westphalia. And I believe it's the city of Hannover that has a stunning church built completely of red brick. In the case of this video, the contrast between those brick walls and the color of the patio stones makes it quite beautiful. I'm glad the new owners decided to have it all cleaned professionally.
What superb brick - your cleaning brought everything back to its original splendour. Wonderful to see and what a lovely house.
Thank you!!! 😊🍊
~🍊~ Beautiful brick! So much character to appreciate. The palms remind me of the botanical gardens I used to visit as a child. Soothing. This particular job really made you work for it but you did fantastic! Which seems to be your standard. I really respect your ethic. I don’t think you’ll have a problem finding the people that need you 🧡 I hope the sun takes it just a little easier on you this week. Have a relaxing Sunday 🪷
Hi! It was a beautiful garden and had so much character. I loved the environment, despite the hard work :P
I really appreciate your kind words, it's going to be a sunny one again today so we are relaxing with a BBQ.
Have a lovely day :) 😊🍊
The orange 🍊 walls are really pretty.Good job young Man.❤
There's nothing to beat yourself up about, you did an amazing job considering the state it was in. If I was the customer I'd have been delighted with the finish.
The ORANGE brickwork came up a treat and has enhanced the whole space.
Thank you very much PeelPilgrim! (A fitting name for the orange episode)
I really appreciate your comment 😊🍊
I appreciate your concerns over the durability of some of the materials being cleaned.
I find that using the turbo to rinse down AFTER the SH application has a disproportionately positive effect than solely rinsing off the SH.
I tend to start off on a 5:1 ratio with the Xjet, then a 2.5:1, if blackspot remains (following a thorough agitation), then, ultimately, neat.
Very, very few blackspot infestations survive that regime.
However, I understand your concerns over the ability of the stone to take that kind of treatment. Very frustrating for the perfectionist!
Love the videos though!
Thanks Kevin, really appreciate your help!!
Another commenter also mentioned a pre-treatment too, does it help break down the spots ready to be cleaned with pressure?
I really appreciate your help and that you have taken the time to help me! Thanks!! 😊🍊
@@diamondexteriorcleaning I don't tend to pre-treat, but it couldn't hurt.
I find that after any ratio of SH treatment the blackspot appears weakened. Still strong enough to cling on if washed with a flat surface cleaner or fan lance, but not strong enough to cling on when faced with the turbo.
I run my business as a part-time pension top-up, so I am not in a hurry to squeeze in 3 jobs a day like some of the big boys. Consequently, I can take my time with multiple SH applications & agitations. I haven't been defeated to date.
That's amazing how clean you got it, considering how bad it was. The orange walls were fab. Good job.
Thank you so much Mary, so kind 😊🍊
Orange 🍊 it looks so popping! I also enjoyed it so much with no music thank you also you did a great job. ❤
Thank you! 😊🍊
Orange! 🍊 I love the orange brick wall what we call in Germany rote Backstein Wand. A lot of houses and official buildings are made of that colorful brick work here in Berlin and in the surrounding areas of Brandenburg. Even yellow bricks were used, but the red ones are my favorite and even more common. I remember the inner yard between the front house and the stables where my grandparents lived were plastered with those yellow bricks. I think they'd never been cleaned during the time my grandparents lived there in a rented apartment on second floor.
Thanks for cleaning and bringing the colors back to life. 👍
How interesting Manuela! It is so wonderful that each different geography has such unique ways of doing things.
We do not have a mass of different colours here so it is nice to hear about the buildings in Germany.
I have visited once, to Hamburg for a few days. Unfortunately no more exploration since then!
Really appreciate it 🍊
That many years of neglect and accumulation would make it difficult to get perfect. The transformation looked great. ORANGE. 🙂👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much Marnie! 😊🍊
Very nice job. The orange color is popping.
You always do a great job and as always.... What a great clean up
I really like all the extra editing you are doing... very professional 😉. Good Job 👏👍👏👏
Thank you so much Warren (or is it Mandy?)
I really appreciate that and am glad that you notice the small extras, that makes me happy! Thanks for watching 😊🍊
@@diamondexteriorcleaning lol 😂🤣😜 it is Warren Mandy... Mandy being the surname.. too often in the past at a doctors or dental appointment when the nurse says Miss Mandy Warren please.. and when I stand up being a 60 year young man with beard they get a mega shock and boy do they blush.... I take it on the chin and have a good laugh 😂😂😆🤣
@@diamondexteriorcleaning nearly forgot, well done on all the new subscribers... Just the other day 10000 and now closing in on 13000. Wish you all the best and Good Job 🙏👍
Obviously your customer has no idea that concrete and stone has to be cleaned at least once a year. Seeing what you are dealing with suggests to me that the place has NEVER been pressure washed. You did a great job!!
Thank you CJ, oh yes, they are new owners so I think it falls on the previous owners who I agree... must NEVER have had it cleaned!! Thanks bud! :)
You did a stellar job considering the condition of the stonework. Lots of repairs and repointing needed there with old hard scape and you got it cleaner than I thought you could at the outset. Well done I always enjoy watching you because you always take so much care of the customers property. Thank you and God Bless❤
Thank you so much Carolyn. I really appreciate those kind words! I tried my best on this one and wasn't so happy but the comments have been lovely and settled how I felt about it!
Really appreciate you 💜🍊
Just lovely! It looks so wonderful! 🧡
Thank you so much Ann! 😊🍊
Jake, The brick wall came so clean they are so pretty I can not recall seeing round brick here in the states. the patio, stairs, porch came so clean, I know what black spots left are so deep in the stone, Great job. God bless you Jake God bless your Family. See you on the next video.
Thank you so much Nancy! They are certainly unusual even here in the UK.
A rare treat! 😊🍊
Blessings to you too x
Lovely job, those orange wall came out beautifully. whole place is well done!!
Thank you Alina!😊🍊
🍊🍊 give yourself credit for taking on the job and knowing how bad the situation with the stone was and how the treatment had to fit the stone. It looks so much better. It must have been difficult because of the different surfaces but you did great evaluating what was needed and more importantly what was safe to use.
Thank you so much Trish, this does settle me. I really appreciate you taking the time to help and give your thoughts. And after all I am glad you enjoyed it 😊🍊
Huge difference! Have never seen rounded 🍊 brick caps but I love them.
👏👏👏👍👍👏👏👏
Thanks for watching Karen! They were so 'characterful' (Is that a word?!) 😊🍊
This is my favorite gardening tool and my favorite clean for watching and learning ❤ thank you
You are so welcome! 😊🍊
As long as the customer was happy with what you did. I’ve seen a few of these cleaning jobs by different people, they have the same problem at times. You did your best. 🍊
Thank you very much Leslie, I really appreciate your kindness 😊
Beautiful pieces that can once again be regal! The orange 🍊 brick work was like magic! ❤
This was a massive job and you can be very proud of the outcome. Those orange brick walls are really beautiful, but my favourite are those wonderful old balustrades. Incredible transformation from black grime to a brilliant white!
Regarding those black spots on fragile surfaces. Can you adjust the temperature of the water? Maybe it could help using hot water while pressure washing with lower pressure to protect those surfaces.
Thank you so much!
There is hot water systems available, my humble machine is cold water only unfortunately so couldn't have been adjusted to burn off some black spots!
Really glad you enjoyed it! 😊🍊
I think it would be an upgrade to your whole system by adding a boiller. I don't do this as a profession but in other videos I have heard guys with experience say they wouldn't have been able to do a challenging clean without hot water.
Fantastic results there, do not beat yourself up over what you can not control, you did an amazing job yet again 👏 👏
Thank you Scottie! Really appreciate it!
Well, I am not an expert, but I don’t think there is much that you could have done differently. Reapplying the hypo multiple times maybe? But perhaps you did and that’s the footage that you lost. But really, don’t beat yourself up about it. It’s a huge improvement! 👍 It should have been cleaned YEARS ago given that the black spots were basically engrained into the stone. I hope they will maintain it and get regular cleaning from now on. Keep up the amazing work! 🍊💎🍀
Thank you so much MissCaroline! The customer has just moved in and I agree with you, maybe it wasn't cleaned for a really long time.. I am a perfectionist so it is hard to accept :P
I tried a few treatments with the hypo and erven on undiluted. It was not meant to be! :D
I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and it has made me feel better about the result! 🍊
@@diamondexteriorcleaning I thought you reapplied the hypo several times, and if that doesn’t work, even when you apply it neat, nothing will. It’s really the previous owner’s fault for not maintaining it. Hope you have a lovely weekend! 🌞
You can try it with baking soda 💁♀️
That was a lovely transformation. the orange 🍊 red of the brick really came up nice. Hopefully the spots continue to lighten up after the chemical treatment. Such a nice grey to the stonework. Great job ensuring the cleaning didn't damage the stonework
Orange 🍊🍊🍊what concerned me the most was how you felt about the work half way through...let me tell you, you did a great job...20 years of grime what did you expect? I'll tell you what, you wanted it to be perfect for the customer and due to the condition it was in you did fantastic...👍🧡
Thank you so much, your comment has really helped settle my thoughts on this clean. Thank you for taking the time to spread some kindness it does help.
I really appreciate it,😊🍊
Jake
I helped a friend clean his walkway around the old house he bought, it had a 3 level patio, planter posts and red brick everywhere (knee walls) with the stone tops. So much damage to the mortar between the surface stone and brickwork was exposed after we cleaned. The exposure to the weather just did its thing over time. Bricks we could reset but the mortar would look different so I told him we should reset the loose and tuck point the whole thing. After the treatments and the tuck-point it looked like it was just installed. You are doing great work.
Get yourself a nice orange coloured mask to protect your lungs from the hypo. Only other thing you could have done is scrub in the hypo with a soft bristle scrub brush. But there was so much you'd still be there working.
Good idea Catherine, it needs to be done I think!! Thank you. 😊🍊
Will order one now :)
Amazing results especially the orange brinks.
Thank you so much 😊🍊
What a beautiful
Roper try and another cracking jog mate well done 👍 😊
Thank you so much Terry! I really appreciate your kindness 😊🍊
Orange .....Great job! Well done .... customer must be very happy!
Thank you! 😊🍊 Customer is over the moon :)
Looks great. 😊
Thank you Jay! 😊
orange the walls looked brilliant
Thank you !! 😊🍊
Orange-a-lina Jolie found the result very a-peel-ing! Considering what it started out as, the result is amazing!
Haha wonderful! Thank you very much 😊🍊
Great transformation! 🍊
Looks so much better than be fore, orange.
fantastic video. the only thing i can suggest for the more stubborn black spots and deeper ingrained dirt is a steam lance pressure washer. i use them at my local heritage railway for deep cleans. another tip i found out is washing powder. flick on and over , brush in the pressure wash or steam lance off
Amazing, TOUGH JOB BUT YOU DID IT! Beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Orange! Another Great Job Jake!
Spectacular work! Orange for the win!
So good! 🍊
The only way to remove more of the black spots would be to use a harsh chemical and that may have been worse for the brick work. Over all you did a great job 👏 ❤❤
Lovely job!
Amazing results. Enjoyed your video.
Thank you King!😊🍊
The spots and minor imperfections add character...nothing to worry about!
A little Patina we could say?!
Thank you VIN! 😊🍊
Wabi-sabi. Look it up. It has to do with Imperfection.
Yeah it would have looked weird if it was pristine, esp the patio/entrance area. The imperfections add to the aesthetic and look of being older
100% you should of pre treated with hypo and worked it in with a stiff brush and probably upped the concentration to get a head start…don’t mean to be condescending but watching a channel like partridge exterior cleaning might help you a lot, he’s always giving tips and advice that may help you with your business 👍
Outstanding! As usual 👍
Thanks again Michelle! 🍊
Super transformation, especially the orange walls! 🍊🧡
Thank you Marcia! 😊🍊
Always amazed just how many people can’t seem to do this themselves selves
The customer obviously loves their garden. I couldn’t see a weed anywhere and the landscaping, especially the orange brick walls, is gorgeous.
Beautiful. Looks amazing.
Thank you! 😊🍊
Orange is my favorite color! This was an epic upgrade. Those stairs are gorgeous and so classic. I wonder how old that house is and I’d love to see the inside!
Hi Jake - another great job! I'm a bit concerned, though. When using the chemicals, shouldn't you at least wear a respirator-type face mask? That stuff is pretty toxic, even breathing the fumes. 🍊
Orange looks awesome!
I think you did a fantastic job ❤🧱
Thank you Julie so kind 😊🍊
You did your job it's up to them they haven't had it cleaned in 20years what else could you have done you did your best ❤
Thank you very much Sylvia for your support :D
ORANGE!!! Outstanding job - well done! well done.
Thank you John! 😊🍊
Excellent work, guy, keep up that esteem, you'regood
Orange you clever to do such a good job!
Hi Jake, "Orange you glad I didn't say Banana !!"
I thought the job came out well. Black Spot and Soft Stone, are not really good bedfellows, no? I know that Sir Nick uses different machines and techniques to get around those issues. He's got access to a bevy of different tools. I thought the grand balustrade came out quite nicely. That's like getting into the nitty gritty with a power nozzle up close and personal.
Hmmm, I don't know, if starting with a Hypo treatment to begin with, before you start blasting, or a higher percentage mix, or the ever so useful, scrub brush with the hypo to start the process, like I said. The balustrade is another beast entirely, right? The kind of tooth brush on the tile floor kind of intricacy !! Nice job, in any case.
Wonderful looking...love the bricks
🍊 love it, another great job 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Your very welcome, I love watching 👀 these clips, your great at your job and the outcome at the end is spot on 👍👏👌😀
Nice work
A great job Bud 👍👍You can only work with what you have got 👍👍Orange wall just finishing job nicely 🥳🥳
Thank you Robin!! 😊🍊
Great orange walls❤️
Must be very satisfying ❤
Brilliant 🍊 orange job well done.👍
Thank you so much Agnes! 😊🍊
Orange you glad you did such an awesome job! 😉👍
Haha thank you! 🍊
Orange ! What a huge job, with terrific results ! I'd try using your chemical solution with a scrub brush on those rails and banisters.
Thank you Pam, good idea!! Really appreciate it 😊🍊
I’ve seen videos of blacktop resealing where the guys edge the driveway first. Maybe it’s an extra step to add to make it easier around walkways and such.
Maybe some steel wool and environmentally friendly soap, simple green maybe.
Orange! Great result!
Thanks! 😊🍊
Love the orange color of the bricks.
Me too Linda! Thanks for watching!🍊
Nice job.
🍊Beautiful job!
Thank you! 😊
Great result Jake! That must have taken a while to do? Maybe the customer will agree an ongoing maintenance plan with biocide? (Maybe they have pets/wildlife etc)
Orange.
Thank you KC! It was a long job with a lot of struggle.
The new owners are keen to get the place perfect so definitely want a return. I'll have to pick your brain on best methods mate!
Use black spot remover! Plenty of products just for that on the market but it takes time to apply and scrub with a hand brush on features like that.
You also need heat with your power washer and surface cleaner
I think heat would definitely be a big help here!! Thanks :D
Orange. I didn’t think it would clean up as well as it did. Great job!
Thank you Lori! 🍊
Orange,enjoyed the video, lovely clean😊
Thank you so much Michelle, I am glad you enjoyed it 😊🍊
Looks lovely now❤
Thank you so much 😊🍊
Such a vibrant orange 🎉
living in the south, I usually had to pressure wash my driveways and patio areas at least once a year. At times, these black spots would come up. Try adding a little bleach with some elbow grease using a wire brush. Wash just after brushing.
Thanks Alan! 😊🍊 Appreciate you !
Orange fruit❤you did a great job ❤❤❤
Great job 🎉
Headed to Home store to price pressure washers now! 😂
Haha, it is always so fun picking something out to buy! Good luck! 🍊
What a great job you did! It was absolutely black before.
Thank you Dawn! 😁🍊
🍊 orange and it came out lovely. 🎉
Thank you Lana 😊🍊
Orange you special, getting rid of those black spots.😊 Great job.💙
Thank you so much Brenda, I love it 🍊🍊
It would be interesting to put up a drone for your before and after shots.
Ooh I would love a drone! A little bit spendy ££ for me at the moment. Maybe a birthday present to myself?! :D
The orange brick walls look fantastic ❣️❣️❣️
White vinegar is suppose to be good against black spots 🫶🫶🫶
Lovely property, lovely job. It’s aged stonework so the owners shouldn’t expect it to look spanking new but clean, which it did. Good job.
🍊 it all looks clean but still magnificently old. And man, that’s a LOT and patio. How did they keep it clean before power sprayers? Scrubbing?
Sometimes I wonder the same thing! My guess at this property is ... they didn't :P
Thanks Catskills 😊🍊
How do you determine how much pressure to use on the bricks and the stonework? Great job as usual.
It's clean but it still gives that antique look.
Heat with low pressure can help on fragile stuff. Just depends on how fragile but what you did looks fab! Orange!
Thank you very much 😊 A few commenters have agreed with you saying heat could be the answer. Really appreciate it!
With scenarios like this, is it better to go up the stairs at first run so that you're not fighting the deposits/runoff from upper,
then rinse off going downwards?
Castellano país buen trabajo
I know Universal Sealants do a product for Black Spot removal, I have seen it used before with good effect. Obviously, more products bring more cost. IMO the black spots kinda add to the old world charm of the hard landscaping that is here. Great job and don't beat yourself orange over it 😂
Orange you glad this project is done? Lol. Great job!
Haha oh yes I am Beverly.. this one took it out of me I can't lie!!
Brilliant job. I wish you would have shown B/A of the front staircase. And all those 🍊 bricks??? 😍
