M. Doughty said that when he was working door at a club he starting riffing, "You got the tickets and I got the list," and that was the start of this song.
saw Mike Doughty a few years ago in Asheville NC, just him and an electric guitar. 10 dollars. One of the best shows I've ever seen! He sat on the stage afterwards, a foot above the floor, and sold copies of his latest cd at the time, blank silver cds in a white sleeve pack :p He signed my old beat up copy of rubyV ^_^ Funny part of the show was when he told some of the regulars in the back to stfu, if they wouldn't mind, so the ppl that paid to get in could hear lol
Ah, a prime example of why I hold 90s music in very high esteem. There was such an eclectic variety of truly original and different music. I don't think that Americans had heard such a musical revolution since the 60s. Of course now 90s music has been distilled down to the same small collection of top 10 tracks from a handful of genres if you ever hear it played on a radio station. The same fate happens with every decade I'm afraid. Young people, hear my quaint ramblings and trust when I say, "if there is every any decade or era of music you find appealing, do yourself the grandest of gestures by taking a deeper dive into any music catalog of the past, or if you are fortunate enough to know of someone even mildly hip, ask them about what was popular and songs that don't get airplay anymore. There are some true gems among any collection that will be very much worth your while. "
I understand. I'm an 80s guy, but I think everyone thinks it's all Madonna and Michael Jackson, and there were plenty of great songs, some of them one-hit wonders, but lots of gems to find, if you look for them.
Yup For some reason Cracker Low and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones knock on wood songs immediately came to mind and I'm a Rocker thru n thru. Lots of killer tunes in the 90s for sure. RICK ON 😎😎
those are the andrews sisters (the 'boogie woogie bugle boy' chicks) saying 'anyone else but me' . it's from their 1940s hit 'don't sit under the apple tree' (with anyone else but me... no, no, no)'
Beleive it, or not, I still have this album on CD that I bought when it came out. It mostly works aside from this track and True Dreams of Wichita. Both still play, but kinds choppy sounding.
@terrapinbrad Totally agree! Seems nobody knows them, but somehow they are known all over the world. I loved their mix of all different elements. During a time when lot's of experimental music was being released, they succeeded in being even more inventive and creative than most other bands. This was the first song I ever heard from SC, and it scarred me for life :oP... luckily. One of the most musically genious bands ever!
You get the angles and I'll get the rest, now decades later Google reveals what I heard on student radio back in the glorious 90s. DJ never told me nothing..
Yeah..... Brad... its too bad Mike and the band didn't get recognized.... and then "artists" like Jewel made the cover of Time magazine..... HUH? And so many Other FAR less talented bands got overplayed like they were the Beatles.
