Wiki says - The chorus of the song "$300" is a sample of a Chris Rock joke; singer Mike Doughty heard the joke which is backmasked on Rock's Roll With the New. Curious, Doughty recorded it into his ASR-10 sampler with the intention of simply reversing it and seeing what the joke was, and wrote the song around what he found there. The song was used in the House episode "The Softer Side" in 2009.

I meant that I've never heard any song that sounds like this one does. It begins with something I wouldn't even call music and the rest is almost like music to my ears. PS! I didn't know this song was composed of samples, thanks for enlightening me.
We met up with Soul Coughing in the early 2000's to talk about using MP3's to promote their band (on a website!) the animation that aired on Cartoon Network, and working with Mike Doughty on lyrics. Check it: th-cam.com/users/edit?video_id=Tmls96tpwdM
If you think this is all samples, you have no idea what you are talking about. There is one member of the band, Mark De Gli Antoni, who plays a keyboard sampler. The drums, bass, guitar and vocals are all very much real.
I haven't actually heard a similar song by them nor have I heard any similar songs by someone else. So I guess not. Not sure. This might be a one-of-a-kind song :)

@SilverthornRage thank you for your opinion. I will keep mine :D I really like all their almubs (maybe not all songs) but OK Computer is publicly most favourite, so i had greatest chance of succes by suggesting OK Computer album ;)
That is VERY close but Tom Waits version is more of a scale from down to up while this is more of a loop of what sounds kinda like a low tuned mandalin.
I liked the song more when i didn't know the lyrics. The "how much, she said for 300 dollars id do it" sounded much better when i didn't know what it said and it just sounded like caveman gibberish.
@Declan Chu-Ricci A lot more than that. I'd check out Mike's memoir. Gives a lot of insight. It's all about egos, herion, and song rights. Typical rockstar story with a twist.
The "How much? She said "For $300 dollars, ill do it." is a clip from a Chris Rock comedy special about how he said if hes gonna pay a hooker 300 dollars to have sex she better paint his house too. I guess Mike thought it was funny enought to write a song about.
@rayzrblayd24 I know you asked this more than 1 year ago, but still i would like to answer As of singing style i would reffer Beck to you (his older songs in albums like Odelay) he also experiments with instruments like in here Then another great band which does experiments with sounds is Radiohead and as of quality of music i would tell you to go and check them out... their album OK Computer is rated as best, but i like all of them (literally) :) ViRPo

First heard Soul Coughing on Cartoon Network as a kid. Forgot about it but then House reminded me lol. Wish they made another CD.
The main singer actually did some solo stuff. The song I know of is more bacon than the pan can handle. Pretty fun

Soul Coughing perfectly captured how it feels to be high on opioids in the sound of their music. Especially with El Oso. BTW, X-FILES MOTHERFUCKERS!
FWI--the voice-over "how much would you get for 300 dollars a week" is Chris Rock...deepened down in pitch. cool.
I'm pretty sure the only sample here is that slowed down spoken word loop ("how much? she said..." etc), which comes from a Chris Rock album.

Chris Rock sampled on this ?.....from what movie ?
From a backmasked bit on the album ROLL WITH THE NEW.
Chris Rock did a lot of standup and other work that was recorded before he had movie roles.
The song begins with 100% musical chords.
I think that the "How much... she said... 300 dollars" is a sample taken from Chris Rock someplace.
Sounds similar to: Roni Size - "Visiting Angels"
