    My nephew introduced khosari to me when I was in Egypt. I loved it ever since. He told me, why eat pizza when you are already eating it in your country? Eat what the locals eat, then you realize you've been travelling. So, goodbye pizzas, hello khosari...

    I tried Kushari for the first time about 3 weeks ago, in a local restaurant, and I must say i fell totally in love with it. It's hard to imagine something so 'disparate' in flavors :lentils, rice, macaroni, fried onion etc., could be so yummy. I went back again to that restaurant and tried the slow cooked faba beans and oh my goodness... It was yumm. I do love beans so it was easy for me, but still... I don't think i'll ever go to Egypt as I have other places i want to see first, plus i don't like how the (Christian) Zabaleen are treated.

    Since the population there is increasing but their ability to provide food remains the static, its a natural consequence that the food prices will continue to rise...

    Egypt, that great Country that has such a milennial rich heritage, the bread I'm sure its pita bread, we made from a recipe shared by a Lebanese lady, it is so good and I like seeing the bread puff up, corn tortillas also puff up even if the corn hasn't any yeast. Maybe when I go to visit Cairo, the people will have Egyptian corn tortillas, this way compare which is better, lol....Interesting upload and thanks to you Al Jazeera English for bringing this IRIE upload to TH-cam for all to view. :)

  • @billwhitman1326
    @billwhitman1326 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I agree the solution is corn not wheat. Corn is the staple of most of Central and South America and does extremely well in heat and drought. It produces twice as much yield per ton than wheat. I actually prefer corn tortillas over flour tortillas. A flour tortilla is very similar to pita bread or naan for a point of reference. When you make corn tortillas they actually have a better flavor. That is the solution in Egypt but I don't know if Egyptians will be able to change their diets like that.

    If you think Egypt has inflation you haven't seen Sudan, they have been under economic sanctions since 2001, thanks to Egypt of course who want Sudan week for their political and regional gain, Sudan can export its goods so it goes through Egypt who take of the label and put "made in Egypt" and sell it for 2 times more. Just a few weeks ago Egypt tried to bring back the sanctions with the best of its ability by arming darfurians (west Sudan) so that when the government retaliated and defends itself Egypt comes and says they are committing genocide.
    And for "um al dunya" all of Middle East knows that most Egyptians (not all) see themselves superior.

      The problem is inadequate infrastructure. If the government improves that, then food would get to every citizen without or with very little waste.

    I enjoyed this show with this lovely Egyptian lady that presented it. However, things are not going to get better for Egypt. Islam did a huge damage to Egypt. The only hope for Egypt is to abandon Islam totally.

    Egypt needs a strict birth control law, the only solution to fighting poverty, and in this way, Egypt will rise economically, scientifically and politically in all areas of life???
    And the example is China,
    A renaissance in all areas of life after strictly birth control??
