My nephew introduced khosari to me when I was in Egypt. I loved it ever since. He told me, why eat pizza when you are already eating it in your country? Eat what the locals eat, then you realize you've been travelling. So, goodbye pizzas, hello khosari...
I tried Kushari for the first time about 3 weeks ago, in a local restaurant, and I must say i fell totally in love with it. It's hard to imagine something so 'disparate' in flavors :lentils, rice, macaroni, fried onion etc., could be so yummy. I went back again to that restaurant and tried the slow cooked faba beans and oh my goodness... It was yumm. I do love beans so it was easy for me, but still... I don't think i'll ever go to Egypt as I have other places i want to see first, plus i don't like how the (Christian) Zabaleen are treated.
Since the population there is increasing but their ability to provide food remains the static, its a natural consequence that the food prices will continue to rise...
Government always has a way even if they tell you they don't. They literally control everything. How about we start putting more intelligent and non greedy people in government in control
Egyptian food is absolutely delicious. Go local local local. Try Foul, tameya (falafel), moulikaya (divine), hawoushi, pepper maashi, wara aynab, koshari, fatta I will finish, I'm getting hungry. Sorry abt spelling. Shokran 😁
I live in California and I learned to make both Foul and Falafel because no restaurant makes the first here anymore and all the restaurants use a "just add water" commercial mix for their falafel and it is HORRIBLE.
@@littledikkins2 Ah,....different here, since we have a Lebanese presence here, falafels, pita bread, pita chips, jocoque(sour cream?)and hummus are sold by two major competitors, both Lebanese in origin and they are so good, they've even begun making hummus with jalapeño pepper! lol...

Egypt, that great Country that has such a milennial rich heritage, the bread I'm sure its pita bread, we made from a recipe shared by a Lebanese lady, it is so good and I like seeing the bread puff up, corn tortillas also puff up even if the corn hasn't any yeast. Maybe when I go to visit Cairo, the people will have Egyptian corn tortillas, this way compare which is better, lol....Interesting upload and thanks to you Al Jazeera English for bringing this IRIE upload to TH-cam for all to view. :)

I agree the solution is corn not wheat. Corn is the staple of most of Central and South America and does extremely well in heat and drought. It produces twice as much yield per ton than wheat. I actually prefer corn tortillas over flour tortillas. A flour tortilla is very similar to pita bread or naan for a point of reference. When you make corn tortillas they actually have a better flavor. That is the solution in Egypt but I don't know if Egyptians will be able to change their diets like that.
I can never eat street food in Egypt because their hygiene level is zero. Even their high class restaurant is with prayers, if not you end up with food poisoning. To me, Egypt is still one of the best countries. I love Egypt
There three main problems in Egypt: 1. High birthrate without new industries to support the bulking population 2. Government ignoring the problems of its citizens 3. Muslim Brotherhood terrorizing the government scared away worlwide investors
You can give a lot of the credit for number 3 to Obama's Arab Spring. It totally devastated Syria and much of Libya. Egypt came out only slightly better
Corn is not THE solution for Egypt. It requires A LOT of water which Egypt cann't afford. I dries up the soil quickly. The country has to diversify its food production to lower its bread consumption ; try potatoe for example as there are many different kinds...
It said half the wheat they used is imported, and this has probably grown since this video was shot, though not by much. There were a lot of droughts world wide in 2015 that cut wheat production.
