When Malaya got independence in 1957 there were no laws against Muslims leaving Islam. However for political & racial reasons, Muslims were enslaved with Apotasy Laws which forbid Muslims to leave Islam.
Without Apotasy Laws many Muslims would have left Islam.
Islam have been used to instil fear on Muslims for political agendas in Malaysia.

Apostasy is the right of every person. If you don’t like a religion you should be free to quit it, without penalty. Religion is a personal thing. Not something that the state should force you to accept.

Religious freedom and the right to choose one's faith should be extended to all regardless of their religious following. This right to choice cannot and should not be curtailed by overseeing authorities under the pain of punishment and even death. The right to choice is a God given right, an inalienable right. Let us respect the human person.

Apostasy laws are an assault against true civil justice. There can be no practical, fair, and just freedom of religion without reciprocal freeom from religion. In order for any of us to realize genuine freedom of religion, expression, thought, and conscience, we must be free of religious coercion.

Welcome to Malaysia, a country that states freedom of religion but this right don't applies to Malay and Muslim... think carefully before you decide to join the cult. its a one way street. only way out is to go other country
