I agree. I don't hear any motorcycle until they are right next to me on the hiway. You won't hear an loud exhaust on any bike on the road until they are right on top of you. As for people saying loud pipes save lives, they are highly misinformed.
I'd just mod the baffles while they are out, put em back in and drill and tap some holes to hold them in place, it'll sound sweet and still have some back pressure.

Cobras or Vance & Hines is the way to go if you can afford it. I like the look of the Cobra pipes on my 1100 Spirit because they are not tapered like the factory pipes. The Cobras have baffles but are low resistance so the bike is quiet when cruising in the neighborhood (20 to 30 mph) and loud when you roll on.

one would think a pilot & main jet increase would be required to keep from getting lean at high rpm's.my experience is they are jetted so lean from the factory that a decrease of backpressure often makes them run worse.(lean burn,not good).
Loud pipes can save lives... but the issue isn't the pipes. The fact of the matter is that most drivers just plain arent paying attention. Nobody is going to hear or see a bike if they are texting on their phone while blasting music from two twelve inch subs. That's just the way it is. What about those warnings stamped on the mufflers to not modify the exhaust system. Do they think they are not going to risk being pulled over for a resultant noisy exhaust and besides i am a motorcyclist who knows what goes with a noisy exhaust even if I was on a literal ride of pig headed bliss with a V twin that can snort many times louder than a pig!

I did read it, and also read that the MAIN CAUSE of accidents are vehicles not yielding to the right of way of the motorcycle, due to not seeing or noticing the motorcycle. after you take out the Stock Baffels you can buy after market baffels and cut them down to modify the sound and the back pressure..still LOUD and FAST..I got stopped and the cops stuck a stick in the pipes and to their horror, there were the Baffels..TaDa..and down the road I go..if it pops...REJET....

Actually, most accidents are caused by the driver being unaware of the rider... not saying loud pipes DO save lives, but that IS the number one cause... not because the rider is breaking the law or riding reckless.

Bike sounds like crap. Small displacement bikes do not sound good with loud pipes at all. Sounds like a lawn mower to me. I work on bikes all the time, and with the baffles removed, you are risking burned valves. And a leaner running engine. They were designed from the factory to have a certain amount of back pressure, and by modifying the mufflers, you screw up the entire system.
I'd go to your local motorbike parts supplier.. they'll be able to inform you of your choices better than anyone here, as some parts may not be available in your local. I have a pair of Silvertail's [with baffles] on my VT 125C there more than loud enough.. I can imagine a 1100cc without baffles will be deafening to an absolutely ridiculous level.
People thinking loud pipes save lives are full of it. Attentive driving, years of experience, and not showing off saves lives. Loud pipes are only annoying. Next time a bike with loud pipes is coming up on you take note as to where they are in relation to your car. By the time you can hear them they are close enough for you to hit them. If they are going away it is loud, but I am not worried about cars I have already passed, they see me. Loud pipes sound cool, but they DO NOT save lives.

So many people do this - or change the silencers/mufflers without re-jetting, and so many have a ruined engine afterwards.....
