You are an excellent instructor! Perfect in length and clarity.. I had my sketchup open on another computer and was replicating what you were doing at the same time
I like the steady pace, and calm , unexcited delivery. It covers the essential information, without any distracting gimmicks. Good, professional instruction - Thank you !
Just looking into Sketchup. Was about to give up because many videos i found were not clear at all. Your videos are extremely clear , structured and to the point. Your style of explaining things is perfect: clear, relaxed with al little smile here and there. The challange now is to find the right sequence to watch and learn. I think i found square one with this selection tool :-)
All good clear information. No waffle. I didn't think I needed to watch the Select Tool video- it's obvious surely? Wrong! I learned heaps. Many thanks :)
CORRECTION: At 3:43 you talk about the Shift-key modifier, but the screen shows the [Space] icon. Aside from that, Kudos! The clarity and pace of the speech, the use of the graphics, and the clarity, flow, and comprehensive coverage of a well-focused topic are outstanding. Congratulations to all involved in the work.
Been awhile since this old guy did some 3D modeling- it is refreshing to remind myself of all the basics while not being "talked down to" by the presenter. Nicely done.
Thanks! Being a self taught Sketchup user, there are so many of these functions that I didn't realize existed. Hope you do this with each of the tools!
these are great videos! Perfect for my high school students. Just a heads up. When talking about using the shift key to add to a selection on the screen the spacebar image appears in the lower left corner rather than shift. Time stamp 3:42.
... especially the frame selection - either left to right or right to left - is an extremely helpful and smart feature. An ability SketchUp shares with some other CADs...
I have seen many videos related to sketch up. All are not well explained for a beginner. Your Step-by-Stup approach is very useful and can be learned clearly. I really appreciate your efforts. I want to be a master in sketch up.Seekiing your advise. I do cad drawings. Please upload how to work in cad file to make 3d and animations with rendering.
Just one thing from the 'Line tool' video. You kept saying "I type in my length" while pulling the line tool around but I didn't see you type anything. That confused me. The process itself was pretty straight forward so not a big deal. Now, I have a question: in Visio for example you have the option to show the grid, I've found it makes keeping lines and objects uniform easy. Does Sketchup have a show grid option? I plan on getting the lower version to play around with and maybe use it later when I do some remodeling. Is it good for that, would I hit a dead end and need to upgrade? Good videos. One more reason to get the product, not a lot of products have such an extensive library.
Hi. Thanks for watching. There is no 'Grid' in SketchUp. LayOut (comes with SU Pro) has a grid for aligning objects and viewports. SketchUp does have 'Length Snapping' which allows snapping at specific intervals...it also has Axis-locking or what's called 'Inferencing' - which keeps your drawing tools align to various axis.
Hey "master" Aaron (bow), this is fantastic for guys like me trying to start with SketchUp!!!. Maybe you can create a new playlist with these "Square One" videos? Cheers from Buenos Aires!!!
I'm thinking of purchasing SketchUP. I do drafting for a contractor who does general remodeling and kitchen and bath renovations. I do design as well as existing and proposed drawings. Will this program work better for me than 2020 which I am currently using?
Better in which way? SketchUp is great for design, documentation and visualization. It has direct access to geo-location information (for accurate shadow studies) and 3D Warehouse for instant model entourage. The new Ambient Occlusion style really makes interior views, including black and white constuction documents pop.
Thank you so much for the videos. You taught me a lot and saved me lots of time and frustration. I’m having an issue with solids/solid components. I make 3D printed buildings so having it as a solid is a must. I’m trying to make a brick house which uses a ton of solids (bricks, shingles, window frames etc...) when I try to use the union or the outer shell tools to make it all one solid the program to stops responding. I mostly use free sketch up up I currently have the free trial for pro 2020 I have the same issue with both (i would be willing to buy the pro version if need to make it work but would prefer just the free version) is there a way to fix this or work around it? A reply would be awesome but a video would be amazing. Thanks again for all the helpful videos.

I have been using the SketchUp for a while, but I do learn new skill from this basic course. Well done and thank you. Pls keep creating similar video.
Great instruction. Always good to know all the options available which make things easier to apply.
Videos are honestly perfect for just jumping in - Not too long - enough information provided - Great job!

Came here to say that
The detail of explaination for each command is very helpful!
very useful for beginners
Professional, well paced, clean design. Good job.

Very welcome supplement to the Sketchup Campus material. Much appreciated.
Very professional. Excellent solid basics for a SU newbie - but with tempting tips and tricks that will be so useful and time saving.
Thanks! Being a self taught Sketchup user, there are so many of these functions that I didn't realize existed. Hope you do this with each of the tools!

Great video! You are a great teacher. I thought learning sketchup pro would be super difficult, but you are making a believer out of me.
Thank you again! Taught myself some of this stuff 10 years ago and yes, apparently I glossed over some of these details! Very useful.
Skill builder always comes up with one or two things I may have overlooked! Thanks Aaron!
thanks a lot for the clear illustration
Thank you. Basics and instructions are very much welcome, thank you again
i've been trying to figure out why drawing the same select area from different directions gives different results for days.
thank you for explaining
Thanks. I've been using SketchUp for many years and did not know the select key had these shortcuts.
Simple and nice explanation. Thx!
... especially the frame selection - either left to right or right to left - is an extremely helpful and smart feature. An ability SketchUp shares with some other CADs...
Thanks! Glossed over as in 'didn't realize'. Skill builder is an awesome value.
Keep them coming nice tips learning a lot from you my brother from Kenya
Very helpful. Thank you. Is there any particular function if you click, or multiple click, on a vertex of lines?

Helpful for my beginner students!
great stuff, I am totally new to sketch up, bring it on!
New user and like the basics.
Very useful!!!!
Got confused at 3:43 when you mentioned holding down the Shift key but the video shows the Space bar is currently depressed.

@3:55 Shift key is holding but it shows Space.

Very useful stuff. When I drag my mouse around an item I don’t see a bounding box. How do I turn it on?

My selection tool jumps to a different view when used more than once. How do you clear it on a Mac?
Hey Aaron.
SketchUp +V-Ray Next 👍👍👍
Thanks Aaron; yes i did learn something!!
Awesome vid - from a beginner
Thanks for using a Mac. However, some type of circle around your mouse would make it a lot easier to keep up with where you are going with your mouse.
Thank you 😊
Thank you very much
Please make a tutorial on making chamfer sides such as 45 degree cut on circle, rectangle etc
How about a video on WHAT to select to modify a given (not too complex but not a cube) shape like say a hexagonal 'cube' or a cube upon a cube...
Excellent!
LIKE - Just like you said... I'm self-taught, but didn't know the intricacies of the Select tool!
Saludos desde Panamá 🇵🇦
Thanks! Self-taught means not always knowing the tricks.
An important lesson
By making a window from left to right.. it doesn't get selected... stuck 😣
Самое лучшее вдео пособие по обучению. Находишь много новых функций.
perfect
nice one
On the modify key section, you say SHIFT, but you display the SPACE bar in the video.
Is there a free download? i cant find it
only the web version is free, I think. app.sketchup.com/app?hl=en
I did not know... selecting directions determine mode...
Back to Basics.. 😁 😁
Aghh, This is as boring as f… oh, you can hold down alt and shift just to deselect, that’s cool.
