Awesome stream, I always enjoy talking about favorites of the year. Love some of the albums mentioned here and definitely some reminders for albums I need to give more spins to. Here is my top ten metal albums of the year so far.
1. Dödsrit - Nocturnal Will (melodic black metal/crust punk/epic heavy metal)
2. SeeYouSpaceCowboy… - Coup De Grâce (sasscore/metalcore/post-hardcore/emo)
3. Vemod - The Deepening (atmospheric black metal)
4. Svdestada - Candela (blackened crust punk/hardcore punk)
5. The Funeral Procession - In Still Silence (progressive death metal/melodic death metal aka Opeth & Katatonia worship)
6. Alcest - Les Chants de l'aurore (post-metal/post-rock/blackgaze)
7. Nostalghia - Phaneron (atmospheric post-black metal)
8. Darko US - Starfire (progressive deathcore/mathcore/nu metal/electropop/dream pop/edm)
9. Vorga - Beyond The Palest Star (melodic black metal/atmospheric black metal)
10. Cistvaen - At Light’s Demise (atmospheric post-black metal/melodic doom metal)
Here in Turkiye, especially in the large cities, there is a small but solid local underground scene when it comes to death metal. I’m not much involved in it, but you could probably go watch a show every weekend. Hellsodomy, Serpent of Old, Engulfed and Diabolizer are some that have drawn the most international attention lately, I suppose.
Also there are bands in almost all styles of metal that were formed in the 80’s and 90’s, some active and some defunct. Pentagram, Knight Errant, Cenotaph, Dr. Skull, Moribund Oblivion, Solitude, In Spite, Almora, Antisilence etc. None of them had much recognition outside of home though, so you’re totally right when you say you’ve never heard any, not surprising. Yes, we don’t have a Rotting Christ, yet haha!
Great show as always, thanks! I’ve already added a couple to my library to check asap. I really enjoy listening to the latest Early Moods and Necrophobic, in constant rotation those two. Cheers!
Great stream as always. Several albums missing here, but that shows what a great year it's been already. Necrowretch is one of the best for me so far. Cheers. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Going to assume none of you actually heard In Vain-Solemn? Hands down one of the very best albums of the year (possibly best of the last few years). Best descriptor I could have is the album Borknagar wished they had written but infinitely better. The album is SHOCKINGLY good. My cohost and I at the Harsh Vocals Podcast have been raving about this album since it was released. Everyone we have told to check it out has loved it. Other ones I’m surprised that were not on anyones list…
Eternal Storm
Kvaen
Inherits the Void
Labyrinthus Stellarum
Amiensus
Saidan
Vale of Pnath
Oubliette
Wormwood
Necrophobic
Dodsrit is VERY high on our mid year lists as well. That album is a flat out smoke show. For more traditional metal the new Mega Colossus album is fantastic. Blackened speed the new Wraith album is great. Thrash the new Atrophy album is a banger. 30+ years between releases and this one sounds like it came out a year after their last one (a rarity for thrash bands making a return). Not one word about the smoke show that is the new Priest album? That thing rivals the best albums of their career and I say that with zero hyperbole…:)
Always great to listen to you'r guys banter. Interresting choices, only know the Riot so far. This year I took a deep dive into Stoner and Sludge Metal. So my list so far differs completly.
Here we go:
10: Scorched Oak - Perception (Stoner Doom)
9: Sarke - Endo Feight (Black & Roll with a bit of everything else)
8.Juke Cove - Tempest (Punky, Psychy Doom)
7. Maentis - To Become King (Atmospheric Doom)
6. Ufomammut - Hidden (Psych, Doom, Sludge)
5. Grin - Hush ( Psych, Noise, Doom)
4. Ten Ton Slug - Colossal Oppressor (Sludge Metal)
3. I Am The Intimidator - I Am The Intimidator (Speed Metal)
2. Coltre - To Watch with Hands to Touch with Eyes ( NWOBHM) Alan you should check them out
Eremit - Rise of the Kuan-angh
This was a great stream! Got some recommendations that I need to check out. Cheers!
gonna check out a few albums that were talked about here. thanks folks :)
Good call on Gjendød. One of the most interesting black metal bands of the last decade.
Whoa Seven Spires got mentioned! One of my favorite albums of the year so far as well. I wouldn’t call them power metal though. It’s more symphonic metal if you ask me.
Great episode guys. Cheers to you. Thanks for the good recommendations
My favorite album at the mid point of the year is Hyver - Noirceur Mystique d'Autrefois. fantastic atmospheric/symphonic black metal. haven't heard any atmospheric/symphonic BM this good since evilfeast

This year seems slower then previous ones, but nevertheless there is always good stuff. I hope Moonsorrow puts out something in the fall
Personally i was dissapointed by the Aquilus, Departure Chandelier and Ihsahn records
PS: the new Blood incantations is 2 tracks 20 min each
Dodsrit, Kvaen, Wormwood and Hellbutcher, formerly of Nifelheim have also put out some deadly new records so far this year! Also noteworthy, Vulture from Germany has put out a killer speed metal release “Sentinels” this year as well! This band keeps getting better and better!
I love that new Dodsrit!
Check out the new Spectral Wound single if ya haven't yet. Think you'll dig.
@@dannypriceandthebloodmoney Loved Spectral Wound’s last album! Definitely will check it out! Thanks!
Kryptos - Decimator is probably my favorite record, so far, this year. Total denim&leather heavy metal with plenty of speed tracks throughout to create a wonderful peaks&valleys track list. The vocalist has a very unique, blackened Bon Scott with hints of Dave Mustaine thing going on that I love. And the riffs are catchy, fist-pumpin' as fuck!
I'm also excited for the upcoming Spectral Wound album. The first single is severely fucking sick.
Can I ask what is that opening intro track to the podcast you had playing ?
well looks like it's finally time to buy that Engulfed album - damn you tempting bastards!
Great video! Check out if you didn't already new Rotten Tomb and Exhumation
🤘🤘🤘
Best releases so far are Departure Chandelier and Unholy Craft. New Hate Forest EP is also excellent
Tried getting into the new Brodequin, but just couldn’t! Didn’t do anything for me! More like meh! However that Darkthrone kicks major ass! Of course!
Don't get Brodequin either. It might be for the kids.
@@n0s0luti0n I just turned 40 so I appreciate feeling young at heart
@@MelanieLovesDeathMetalThat’s awesome! I’m almost 50! But definitely don’t feel it! If anything, my musical tastes keep getting heavier and heavier! 😂
New brodequin is good
@@ashgonza92 It’s alright. Would never go back to it though.
Horrible choice by Marti for number 1
Other than riot , great picks
Pestilence "Levels Of Perception" so far takes the #1 spot for WORST release this years. Not only did they manage to swap the AI art with something even worse but the production is just plain atrocious. And I am still with Melanie about Deicide latest release being a total bore.
