A lot of my picks for the year were albums you guys introduced me to. Dödsrit, Hauntologist, and Cistvaen are all favorites. I'd also add in Kvaen's new album, and the new Akhlys dropping this Friday. A stellar year for black metal

Came back to say thanks for the Cistvaen tip! I actually checked this out when it came out, but was turned off by the first track since it starts very "traditional oldschool blackmetal", which is NOT my thing. But if you guys like it I knew there had to be more to it, so I let it run out and there's MAGIC in the later songs! =D

I haven't listened to as much Black Metal this year but Vorga has been my favorite release of the year. Vredehammer and Necrowretch have been my go to albums on the blackened death side. Cant overlook the Necrophobic boys either.

As mentioned on the other video, Bellum II is my favourite of the year. Doesnt quite top Griseus but its just so good regardless. Other black metal ive enjoyed: Necrowretch, Akhlys (i know its only just released), Perchta (tbf the album isnt perfect but has some really cool ideas), Hail Spirit Noir (does that one even count as black metal?), and Hoplites

Great fucking list boys! Loved a lot of these and you even got a couple I've missed. If you haven't listened to it then my favorite black metal album so far is Amiensus's Reclamation. It's progressive and atmospheric black metal with an emphasis on nature. It's fucking beautiful.
My number one for this year is to my surprise last Rotting Christ. These guys mature as hell and parts which I love on their side Thou Art Lord are here as well (those sick choruses).

My no 1 is still Borknagar. I've been listening to the album since January 3rd, and IMO, nothing has come close.
Killer record - I had a hard time justifying it as black metal with all those progressive elements.

Solbrud - IIII. Proggy, atmospheric, majestic, soulful. Brilliant album and then they split up. So sad...
For me the best is Sakna- De syv dødssynder. Originally it was recorded from 2006 to 2011. After that the original creator,Solemn, sadly took his own life. Now it was released and remixed by his brother, and it's fucking incredible!

Honestly can't agree most of this list, besdies Dodsrit. They're good albums, just not exceptional imo. I'd say Selbst - Despondency Chord Progressions, Jours Pales - Dissolution, Vorga - Beyond the Palest Star, Kvaen - The Formless Fires, and Infestus - Entzweiung, all deserve a place.
