I haven't tracked deer in the big woods since 1986 .walked all day from daylight to 230 in the afternoon before I crossed a deer track . in snow that was 4 days old .back then me and my friends made 6 dollars a hour .we should have drove the roads in the allagash wilderness . in stead we tried to find one walking . we did not have the money to spend on gas . every time I found a deer track I wood fallow it all day I killed 1 10 pointer . think I seen 6 dear in the 3 years. I did it 21 days I don't think my friends saw even 1 . I gave up in 1987. I think if I could have watched guys like you Jeff doyal Isaac young some of the bullocks things mite have been different. thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing the stories Jim! I love hearing the old adventures that guys went on! That’s great stuff. You worked hard and were able to shoot one tracking! That’s something that many people will never get a chance to do or may never be able to achieve. Finding a track the old school way by walking is always super rewarding! I love examining an area on a topo map and picking the spots I’d most likely cut a buck track, prior to walking in. And thank you for the kind words and support! I’m sure I could learn a ton about deer hunting from a guy like yourself! Thanks for following along, happy to have ya here for the adventures!

That was pretty nice, it's too bad you didn't get a glimpse of that moose. By the way those woods are looking, there's gotta be a lot of mature deer around that area. Looking forward to the next chapter!!!
@@williamgoswick4392 Thanks William! Super thick woods with tons of browse and undergrowth from logging operations over the years. Plenty of room to roam and food everywhere they go. They truly are Wandering Whitetails in the north woods of Maine! Next one will be a good one! Stay tuned

Appreciate it! Happy to share the adventures along the way. It was my goal to do my best to document the trip and portray the ups and downs of hunting in a difficult place like the north Maine woods. I fought through the exhaustion and discouragement the first 3 days, had to persevere and keep pushing forward. Tons of deerless miles and dense forest but it’s an amazing place! There’s something special about completely disconnecting, without any cell service and being out there own your own!

My dude have you ever tried using a turkey call as you go to disguise yourself? I don't hunt this stalking/tracking style like you do, but I have heard of people using the turkey call to fool deer into not spooking. maybe its an old wives tale : )
Hey Goodredblackratio! I personally haven’t tried it but I have heard of others who do use it. Although up there in the northern part of Maine in those conditions, it would probably be an out of place sound. But I could definitely see it working as a cover sound in other still hunting/tracking scenarios!
That is actually a really really good way to slip in... I've used a squirrel call before I started hunting turkeys... Where I grew up we didn't have any turkeys until the late 90's and then we still couldn't hunt them. But it works slight yelps is all it takes to cover your noise but I have found you still need to have cover to completely pull it off.
