Sir that is a fine deer and a great video. I’m a mid western hunter and we don’t get to hunt like you fellas up north. Your methods, dedication, and overall attitude towards the hunt are something I’ve long admired. Thanks for taking the time to post your hunt and for the genuine joy for it all. @@rainsong7327 Thanks! Love the 308. Most of our shots are within 80 yards in the big woods. We have used .270, .30-06 and .308 for many years with much success.
There really is no hunting like Tracking in the New England Mountains, but then again the Vermont woods, is the only Hunting iv'e ever done, but Iv'e always wanted to go up to Maine, i just don't know anyone up there with land, to access.
To to Jeremy hansman It’s simple smaller dear like spike Horns and dough like to be in fields but the big buck like to be in the thick of it, swamps and brush wherever you don’t want to go is where they’re gonna be. A lot of times you just got a spot n stock But don’t make tooMuch noise take a few quiet steps and then stop and look around

Watching you hike through the dense forests there reminds me of rifle hunting where I do in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Rugged, unforgiving terrain. Every buck is hard earned and that one is a real beauty!

I live in VT I've shot a couple of heavy bucks my first was a 8pt 180 lbs my biggest was a 7pt 191 lbs dressed I've taken 17 deer in VT , that was a awesome buck you got 198 lbs 10pt nothing wrong with that my younger shot a 6pt couple years ago 206 lbs we do have some pretty big deer around here .
That’s awesome! Those are some really great bucks! My biggest (weight wise) before this buck was a 180lb 8pt too, in 2015. 2018 was an awesome year for me… ended up tracking a tall 8 in rifle and taking a beautiful 10 in muzzleloader. I’m not sure of the total # of deer taken in VT between buck and doe, it’s a lot, but we definitely work hard for them in this state don’t we?! Makes every one taken mean so much more!
I also live in vermont my biggest in a 7 point 202. One of my sons biggest is 206 8 point we both shot them in 2016

Very nice buck. Blood is heavier than water and water weighs 8lbs per gallon. Your buck was well over 200 lbs dressed, you just let out too much blood...hehehehehe I'm from Iowa , where a 4 1/2 yr old weighs about 235 dressed . I harvested a 400+ one time and he field dressed 325 on a local grain elevator scale. As far as your viewers are concerned, you made tha club. Keep up the great hunting, good luck in the Adirondaks...who knows, you may get a bigger one there. Thanks for the video , I can no longer hunt due to physical injuries, but , I have all the memories and that is what counts ! GOD blessed you for sure !

Vermont’s Biggest Buck Club is for any buck that weighs in over the 200lbs, fully dressed out. He missed the mark by only a couple lbs! A beautiful 5.5yr old mountain buck.

The only Buck that had done this to me was when I was with my Dad on the first day at 6 or 7 years old. Dad told me to sit right here by an oak tree, because we see a bunch of does feeding down below! Remember this was back in the early 60's! Dad started sneaking down to them to see if a buck was with them. All of a sudden this Giant Buck come over a ridge right at me! Dad was down below me and I jumped up scared out of my mind! LOL Dad run up around me and started shooting at this thing I thought was as big as a house! Remember I was 6 or 7! Dad hit the Buck 2 or 3 times before he piled up! Dad said are you alright. I must have almost passed out I was so scared! 180 something! I still remember that one 60 years later! The first time and only time I had a deer come right at me! He must have been jumped by someone else on the other side of the mountain. We heard a shot 4 min before!

He weighed 197lbs at the official weigh station on a certified manual scale. Wish he was just a few lbs heavier!

Congratulations nice buck. .308 is a great caliber for deer. I shot the beast in my profile picture this year in New Hampshire with a .308. one shot blew the heart in half he went maybe 40 yards. Building lifetime memories one season at a time.

Thanks! And that’s for sure! The two states are pretty much polar opposites when it comes to deer hunting. The trophy is in the eye of the beholder! Based on last year’s deer harvest report, 62% of all bucks shot in VT were 1.5 years old and 33% were 2.5 years old. With super low deer densities and extremely minimal hunter success rates, especially in the mountains, shooting a mature buck in VT is a lifetime achievement for most hunters. Thanks for watching!
