    I owned No Rival a few years back and lived on her in London and sailed her and East Coast and to Holland, France then the Med via Spain and Portugal and then back via the french canals and can vouch for her sea keeping in a big blow and big seas. Intention was to sail her to the caribbean but couldn't afford a sat phone in those days to do the ARC. Nice to see she is still being looked after as have many happy memories of the voyages we took.

    There are so many better options than the typical giant racing dinghy with Bermudan sloop combination. I'm a fan of the modern cambered junk, which jibes very gently, as well, reefs in ten seconds and also single-hands with no trouble. The Nonsuch hull with a junk rig is probably an ideal combination!

    Friend of mine owns a NonSuch 30 in the UK, identical on the outside, completely different layout on the inside. Lovely roomy stable boat to sail and be on :-)

    Nice introduction to the Nonsuch. Love your video! We sail Katuna out of Toronto and love it.
    Check your spelling of tack ( not tax ) and foresail ( not fossil ) I haven’t seen a 30 Classic yet with a bow thruster but it’s possible they added one. The boat can easily turn in her boat length!

    • @seabeatrice
      @seabeatrice 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alison. Mike here. The bow thruster was already fitted when I got the boat. I think it’s a great addition. Our marina is pretty tight here and if there’s a stiff breeze, the amount of windage forward can make things tricky. Wouldn’t be without it!

    Nice accommodations below, But, can you mount solar panels or a Bimini over the cockpit? Dinghy appears it would reside on a davit or is there room on deck?

    • @sailingsummerbreeze
      @sailingsummerbreeze  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! There’s a huge and uncluttered space between the mast & cockpit (as they mast is so far forward and there are no shrouds). This would easily accommodate an array of solar panels or stow a dinghy maybe up to 11’ in length or more stored sideways. This one has davits for a dinghy too. Larger versions of course come with more space, have a look at the freedom cat boats too!

    • @hypnocracy6102
      @hypnocracy6102 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sailingsummerbreeze Thanks, a dinghy in cruising mode on a normal Sloop would have it forward of the mast, just wondered about all those lines leading aft under a dingy on the deck of the Nonsuch. And with the traveler I was interested in best location of Solar panels and if Bimini would come down before getting under sail.

    • @sailingsummerbreeze
      @sailingsummerbreeze  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hypnocracy6102 yes you are correct! I think a small arched support could be easily created to protect the lines from a dinghy. All depends on the particular boat and what you want to do, lots of options. Good luck in your search!

    • @seabeatrice
      @seabeatrice 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hypnocracy. Mike here. You could certainly mount flexible solar panels on the top of the spray hood and there’s loads of space on the deck although they might suffer shading from the sail above. I use the space between the foot of the mast to store my four man life raft. The lines from the foot of the mast comfortably run above it. The previous owner did store his dinghy (deflated) in this position. I have an inflatable but keep it in a cockpit rather than on the davits. I would carry it there but our marina would charge extra for the additional length.
      I believe it did have a folding cockpit enclosure at one stage I believe. It’s something I’ve considered not so much to keep off the blazing sun but rather the incessant rain! It would give us more room and protect my cockpit varnish too.

      Hi Dale. It’s Mike. She is the “Classic” layout rather than the “Ultra” which has the saloon aft. We looked at an Ultra before we bought No Rival but I personally prefer this layout. I’m not sure what the proportion was between the two layouts but if you check out the International Nonsuch Association website, they have copies on there of the original brochures which perfectly highlight the differences.
