Sailing to Heybridge Basin Ep.25
A summer sail to the terrific spot of Heybridge Basin near Maldon on the stunning River Blackwater in Essex. Four blokes and a hound enjoy a jolly jaunt to this fantastic canal basin.
We paddleboard along the canal and make the most of the local facilities including the Tiptree Tee Rooms and Jolly Sailor pub.
Summer Breeze is a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 29.2. We enjoy cruising and sailing around the UK coast, mainly east of england and along the south coast.

First year with a Sun Odyssey 349 Ep.24

Richard has enjoyed a full season sailing with Dreamtime. In this episode myself & Lottie Boat Doggy are generously invited back at the end of the season for a sail on the River Medway. It was really special during the particularly challenging year of 2020 to enjoy a wonderful day with my lovely Grandad. Here we are on the River Medway on a sunny and still September afternoon.

SAILING A GIANT WINDSURF, NONSUCH 30 Cat Boat Ep.18

Take a tour of a stunning and very different boat. A Nonsuch 30 is a cat boat, quite out of the ordinary considering your usual sloop. She has a single huge sail, a bit like a giant Windsurf. Hi, I have watched this video 8 or 9 times and have a question. Do you think she is too small for a liveaboard couple to go cruising, this will be our first boat my wife is 5ft and also will be new to sailing, I am trying to follow Lin and Larry pardy's advice of "go small, go cheap, go now" but in your valued opinion is she too small? Thanks in advance.

    i know you got a lot of flame in the comments, but sometimes you have to work with what you got. im in a similar situation with my sabre 30. i have no other choice but to do this type of install. i will back it up with a piece of starboard , but probably use the additional hardware like you did. weighing and setting should always be done with boat engine assist anyhow. i have never backed on a hook to set while using only the windlass to hold the strain. same with popping it from the bottom. it is always proper to make off to a cleat and use the boat to pop the anchor. the windlass should be there for one thing only- to pull up the rode . and for this , your install should be plenty

  • @stephenburnage7687
    @stephenburnage7687 ปีที่แล้ว

    Think about it. The SWL of anchor chain is in excess of 1,000 lbs (depending on size), with the actual breaking strain multiples of that. The maximum pull of most windlass's is in the high hundreds to the thousands of lbs.......and yet you have that system secured by a couple of cabinet hinges? No professional would have ever signed off on such a design. OK, i understood that in the text books, the big loads supposedly occur only when at anchor (when tied off to a cleat), but real boating life is never that straightforward, such as in attempting to free a snagged anchor or managing both motoring and raising the anchor, single handed, in a blow. I had my windlass secured to a fully glassed 1/2" thick foredeck (no balsa), as per the manufacturers recommendations and am now in the proess of adding a 1" thick aluminium backing plate, as it proved insufficiently strong (ie was beginning to pull the bolt heads through the fibreglass, dedpite oversized washers). In summry, all the worst advice I have ever received, in boating, has come from so-called professionals who and all the best advice from seasoned sailors, whose only motive is to share what has probably happened to them, or a friend, in the past.

    There are so many better options than the typical giant racing dinghy with Bermudan sloop combination. I'm a fan of the modern cambered junk, which jibes very gently, as well, reefs in ten seconds and also single-hands with no trouble. The Nonsuch hull with a junk rig is probably an ideal combination!

    this looks like not enough mechanical advantage to me. the block attaches to the mast forward of the midpoint, and then moves forward still more. It doesn't look very thick either, 8mm? and it's just a 2:1 purchase (ignoring the other block that goes up again even closer to the mast, just to clear that hatch. I think this will put a massive strain on the cabin top, once it gets windy. Although, it's been two years since this video was made so I guess you know now. I came here because I have been installing "german mainsheet" on my boat, but my understanding was that "german" referred to having two mainsheets (and no traveller) you sheet in on the windward sheet and then use the leeward one to control twist (something like that)
