    Story Summary :-
OP has a good life. A wealthy position and a beautiful wife he just married after eight years of relationship. But there’s a little big problem with this: his wife is black, with smooth ebony skin, and his family is a bunch of proud rednecks, secretly showing some racist behaviors towards the woman, for her and OP’s awkwardness. Still, she insists on maintaining a good relationship with OP’s family, since there’s nothing they can do about it, and she’s already used to these kinds of behavior. OP gets mad with his family and has a backup plan in case they still mess with his wife. Since he’s the richer one in the family and pays for almost half of all events (and since they are preparing them) he thinks of leaving during Christmas night, only if things get out of control. And just like a promise, it happens, when a cousin of OP enters the house, showing Tatiana and starting mocking her. This
infuriates OP, and leaves in the middle of the celebration, taking his wife and leaving the family without money to pay for all the expenses that night. Instead, he decides to stay with his wife in the park, celebrating Christmas on their own, and maybe considering that as a new tradition. Now, OP’s family has to pay tons of money for all the reserved things, including transportation for some family members outside the country.

Stop giving them money. That would make them think twice about treating your wife that way. She also needs to stand up for herself to. If she doesn't they will keep doing this to her. What if you have children? You going to let them treat your children this way too. Get a backbone man and make them understand you will not let them keep doing this to YOUR family. Much love to you and your wife.

I'm more pissed at OP for constantly subjecting his wife to that horrible toxic family. The pain and harassment she dealt with was as much his fault for constantly subjecting her to it. When they got married, she became his primary family and she is the one he should have been prioritizing since the first second they said/did something hurtful/racist to her.

@@TheMoneyMaven01I'M BLACK, AS WELL AS MY IN-LAWS. MY MIL TREATED ME SO GREAT, WELL UNTIL HUBBY PUT THAT RING ON MY FINGER. MY MIL STARTED BEING SO RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL TOWARDS ME. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I'D HAVE PANIC ATTACKS WHEN I HAD TO GO OVER HER HOUSE FOR FAMILY GATHERINGS UNTIL I SAID ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! HUBBY SPOKE WITH HER ABOUT THE MATTER SO MANY TIMES, BUT SHE DIDN'T CHANGE, EVEN AFTER 5 YRS. OF MARRIAGE!! TBH THE ONLY REASON MY MIL STARTED ACTING NICE TO ME WAS BECAUSE SHE GOT EXTREMELY SICK AND ENDED UP BEWRITTEN AND COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR HERSELF AND HAD TO RELY 100% ON SOMEONE ELSE. I'VE BEEN MARRIED OVER 10 YEAR AND YES I FORGAVE MY MIL, BUT I WILL NEVER ALLOW ANYONE TO EVER TREAT ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!

I am totally in agreement with the post you quoted. First boundaries. Then communication. It is ridiculous that in this day and age people have to be educated on how to act civilized. Like so many other areas it is apparent that as a society we are so sadly failing to teach all of us tolerance and respect for others. I’m on the older side now, but much of what I see now around me is self centered, bigoted hatred. It is unleashed with a fervor that I find frightening!
Yes, boundaries and communication would be giant steps in the right direction.

Getting a fresh start is always a good thing. I hope for the best for you & your lovely wife.

OP's family is clearly racist how did he miss this? I doubt that it's a new thing and notice the longer OP and wife go without calling them out the bolder do they become. Some people aren't worth the energy to try to adjust their behaviors. When someone choses to be continuously disrespectful to your spouse you have to make a choice family or them. So much of this story is ugly and nasty- why is he continually exposing his wife to this bs?

OP, I applaud your defense of your wife. What I still have questions and concerns are: You never give specific "off colored comments" of what your family said. You left us hanging thinking. You should have been precise with us. I am though, extremely happy about your loyalty to your very kind, and sweet wife. IMHO.....live a beautiful and happy life for the world to see.....it's the best revenge.

They should move away. I don't see OP as strong enough or subtle enough to deal with this racist family and town(see store manager). It's cruel to have his wife live around them and having children will just break their hearts in this environment. Use that money and settle somewhere more tolerant where folks let you breathe at least.

Unfortunately this is also the same reason why I cut my family out of my life. I married someone who is wonderful and loving, who would rather build me up instead of tear me down. I have been happy ever since. Even when I was pregnant my own sisters would call yelling and add stress to my life. I lost my baby due to the unhealthy stress my family gave me. That was the last straw. They could be happy while I couldn't. I'm glad you don't have to suffer like that.

Stories like this break my heart. I guess I was lucky in growing up in a small community that had white, black and indian/native races. Thankfully, none of us kids would tolerate any put downs of our friends when new military families moved in. The same was true with the college I attended.
When I visited my inlaws in the southern US my eyes were opened to how intolerant folks could be. Inlaws had a housekeeper that was an absolute sweetheart, that would do anything for them. She was there daily taking care and making my mother-in-law as comfortable as possible, as she was dying. At mom's funeral I witnessed some of the intolerance towards her due to us pulling her into the family section of the services. I was shocked at the whispers going on.
How I wish people would understand that we are all the same...skin color has no bearing on how good or bad a person is. Some of the sweetest folks I've met are from other cultures, races and classes. This world is made up of good and bad people. May we all learn acceptance, understanding and tolerance. It really costs you nothing to be kind and courteous to others.

Op I feel like I might know what your wife is going through. And maybe because I'm an African American woman. And my husband is a Jewish man I may have heard a couple of little slick slack s***Come out of somebody's mouth I cut their ass off then and there My husband and I have been together for 27 years. We've been married for 24yrs I'm best I know when we get together. People really went looking at us as we learned each other. And then try to say he was going to throw some fetish shit But the Heart wants what the heart wants. And if people can't take my husband and I they can kick rocks We have know Tolerance of racial ignorance And long as you Love and respect each other Keep those people out of your life🤔👨‍🏫🧏🏿‍♀️❤

OP really annoyed me. He knows what his family thinks of his wife and how they treat her but he keeps putting her in those situarion. Telling them to stop and demanding respect won't work. They don't want to do better. Yet he keeps putting her in that situation.

  • @Objective-Observer

This was too little, too late. OP should have bowed out BEFORE ANY PLANS WERE MADE. Let them ALL SCRAMBLE to make the lavish plans on their own dime. Cutting out in the middle, ehhh... yeah, they can claim he was the monster. Refusing to be a part of anything, and their Champaigne Dreams are reduced to tap water budgets, would prove to them just how much OP did for them. It won't change their bigotry; it won't make them see you in a better light. It will make them look bad, when they try to tell the story of the Rich Man who won't pay for anything anymore, because they all treated his wife badly.
Yes, it's time to go no contact with the extended family and low contact with your parents. Don't call them; let them call you. When it comes time to start planning Christmas: you and your wife will be spending Christmas with her family. And keep repeating that every single year. Let them have a few years, where they get excited and hopeful that you've forgiven them, only to dash their dreams. Eventually, they will realize you won't be spending Christmas with them any more.
Some family will come to you with true apologies, and you can accept them; but you won't be spending Christmas with them any more. You won't be giving them money anymore. You won't be helping them anymore. It's way past time they all stop leaching off you, and take responsponsibility for their own lives. You're investing in your Wife's family, who truly respect you and appreciate your generosity, without abusing it.

OP should never have inflicted his racist family members on his wife. She's not in her own country so she doesn't have a lot of support. She certainly doesn't need to be around bullies and people who are going to upset her. Tatiana isn't responsible for trying to change their attitudes and OP should have been protecting her not exposing her to their ignorance. He should not have made these people welcome in their home or comfortable with treating his wife like crap.

I was married to my husband for 32 years, he passed away in 2022.
He was black and I'm white, we had a son who passed away in 2014 at 23 years old. He had 2 daughters from a previous marriage.
I remember when someone said he was African American, he told them he wasn't African American because he was born in Kentucky USA and had never been to Africa and wouldn't be going there anytime soon. He told them he was an American, period.
The first time someone asked me why I got married to someone of a different race, I looked at my husband and said "you were born on this planet right? He said he was. And I said I was born on this planet too, so told the person that me and my husband were part of the human race so no other races here." They were so embarrassed and just walked away. Lmao
