    I ran multiple Hex Head Sheet metal screws into my old tires, cheap and very effective

    I’d wrap a ratchet strap around the tire while the epoxy dries.

    I just screwed in a bunch of hex head screws 3 across spaced out evenly all the way around . Its been at least 10 years now and no wear on the hex heads at all . The grip is great . I have a steep grade in front of the house and it climbs it with no slipping at all . Its the last time you will think about your wheels .

    Did the same thing to my front lawn mower tires just to make them higher, using a bike tire, small black drywall screws, and Gorilla super gel and worked very well.

    The great thing about your video is your basic approach. It can be adapted to suit other needs. Other materials can be used as well. Using the epoxy is a great suggestion as well. Thanks!

      clear silicone caulk works well.

    Good effort. It does work. I have used bike tires from bikes that people have put out and done the same procedure. The results are amazing when it comes to traction.

  • @alexstavros
    @alexstavros 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I did the same using a bicycle trail tire replacement tread. I cut them to size and used 1" deck screws to secure it to the old mower wheel. Two seasons and going strong. My mower can now be used to mow slopes. This is a lot cheaper than replacement wheels and traction is night and day.

      I'm about to do mine. having lasted 2 yrs for you what did you find works better EPOXY or CONTACT CEMENT or any other glue to help hold the rubber tread to the plastic wheels along with screws

    • @alexstavros
      @alexstavros 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robd4526 I did not use any type of glue. I simply cut the trail bike tread to exact length needed to surround the rear mower wheel (rear wheel drive). I used snips (3-pack Harbor Freight A$6) to cut the width to the size of the wheel. I placed two flat head 1" deck screws side by side towards the edge of the cuts. So four screws next to each other but on the ends of the tread. I placed one screws in the middle in the following locations.- 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. Its amazing improvement. Yes, the mower is very slightly raised in the rear by a half inch. You can do the front the same way and have it perfectly level. Place the mower on your driveway and measure the distance to the ground from front to back and then decide.

    • @garyalensr

    An easier hack may be to just put tabs of epoxy or PL on the wheel to make like a knobby tire and call it a day. U wouldn’t have to buy and waste a tire or take the wheel off
