No one's using the cabanas because they are so freaking expensive. Some are worth more then the actual trip itself.
They will say the cabanas are a flat price and if you have a party of 4 or 5 or more people etc the cost per person is cheaper. LOL. I don't see the benefit. I don't see the value for what they post the price at.
It's too expensive
I just looked at a Chill Island cabana and it will cost me $805. My whole cabin was only $700 and I got an exterior balcony.
haha, this is very true! They are still crazy expensive but for this sailing instead of a cabana being $1,500 it was $800 (cheaper but def not cheap). Though, the price is this high because enough people actually pay it!
I say this about the drink package all the time too! But it is very true. Cabana's can cost as much as the room sometimes! insane!
I watch all the cruise youtubers and many are just plain lazy. One of the biggest just keeps churning out 10 tips for packing, 25 things to do, 5 things to avoid, it is so freaking annoying. There are others that feature, almost 100%, disasters, deaths, cruise problems, etc., and then there is Emma Cruises (great) and Tips for Travelers (great) that consistently come up with original content, not annoying recycled templates. Your channel is freaking GREAT and you deserve the success you will earn by putting in the effort to keep coming up with this original content.
You always have the nicest things to say and thank you! To be grouped with Emma and Gary is a huge compliment and I can only wish for the level of success they have had! I get asked often if I run out of ideas and I never have. I just have thoughts where I learn something or experience something and go "others needs to know this" and the ideas keep coming and I remember to write them down lol
Sounds exactly like what I’d enjoy..a non crowded beach, a chair and an umbrella.
you and me both!
I am headed there next week on The Reflection. I love Coco Cay even though I am older. I am looking forward to a Sleepy Coco Cay! Sounds relaxing.
Hope you are having a blast Suzan!
2:29: "Free umbrellas, by the way, I'm looking at you, MSC."😄
haha I have to throw a little shade every now and again ;-)
Sleepy Cococay? Sounds awesome!!
hahah right?
Sleepy works for me! I agree that it sounds like the island might be in a transition to host more ships which results in larger crowds.
You and me both Judi! I love it like this but know it will eventually change :-(
That is really good news!
I love CocoCay, but I am not a fan of the loud party vibe at the pool. I am 31, so I might be in the minority for my age group, but I'd much rather have a relaxing atmosphere. I would rather have instrumental Caribbean music to set the tone for my vacation.
Cococay is large enough where you can get away from the music. There are some quiet areas.
@@Determination212 Definitely! But if you want to go to a free pool, your only choice is the party pool.
Luckily, it isn't as party as it used to be! The keep the volume on the play list at a reasonable level. Granted, the people on the ship will dictate the atmosphere at the swim up bar. Sometimes it is boring and others it is lit!
Huge fan of your content!!
Thank you Scott & Laura! Always love when you pop up in the comments!
Looking forward to this sailing this weekend. Hopefully not many kids, fingers crossed.
Oh you wait! Everybody is coming. REAL SOON!!! 🤣😂😂😂😂
haha I know. The tides will change on this but as long as there is one Celebrity ship in port, it should still be manageable. Two Oasis class right now and I stay on the ship.
Why do we think that everything has to have bells and whistles? You go on vacation to relax and it ends up being a marathon. I hate having to get off the boat at o'dark thirty just to get a chair. Plus who wants to pay a MORTGAGE NOTE for a 3 sided shack for a few hours?? RC has made their money back and now they are just greedy. We have forgotten what vacation really means. Totally agree with you!
100% Esp for people like me who love to travel and are limited by money! I count my penny's and can't afford these items. It's literally another cruise payment! Sometimes, a house payment!
I’m looking at you MSC! Loved the umbrella comment! 🏖️ ☂️
haha have to throw some shade every now and again ;-)
Brandon, good info! No doubt an older crowd with a Celebrity cruise ship took the party atmosphere down several notches! Like yourself I visited Coco Cay years ago when it was more like MSC's Ocean Cay now. Chill and relaxed. We tendered in from Majesty of the Seas in December 2017 and you literally felt like a castaway if you walked to the other side of the island with no one anywhere near you! Lol! I still have TH-cam videos that recorded back then of how chill it was! When that 2nd docking pier gets built and 4 cruise ships dock it's going to feel more like an Orlando amusement park with that many passengers! The one thing I was thinking about on my last visit to Coco Cay was if a Hurricane with the strength of Dorian makes a direct hit on this island it will be out of commission for a while...the island is fairly small.
I just left Coco Cay docked alongside Celebrity. Staff were standing around looking bored
I was on B2B. First leg was two Royals
Second leg was Royal and Celebrity. Vibrance gap was significant
I really wondered how having Celebrity there would change CocoCay as my 3 night did not go there. The vibe of Celebrity is also really different than RCL. Though the 3 night sailing I was on Celebrity Reflection was defiantly more high energy than a normal Celebrity sailing but I dont think as much energy (and kids) as RCL Liberty of the Sea (my last 3 night sailing on RCL).
I also agree with the fewer kids, on my 3 night Celebrity Reflection sailing on April 26 there also was like 10 kids total it seemed.
My family hate not having the dj or party vibe at oasis bc there so many other areas to relax with no music now it feel like a empty island
I loved the dj party! Is it gone for good ?😢😢😢
@@kimhughes4133 i was there in feb and the vibe in the island was definitely not the same. from what i understand the dj will only be at the new hideaway adult area. no more family friendly party at the lagoon pool. which it suck it was fun to hang out by the pool with the dj a bunch or drunk people and at the same time kid could be playing ect..
@@kennethhodge5482 thx Guess I need to go there!!
It is moved to Hideaway Beach Adults only for a fee. :-(
Shame on RC that now we have to pay even more money to enjoy a pool party. I’m 50 I love my relax time and there are many places to achieve that on that island but sometimes I want a real party and the Oasis Lagoon was that for me. Now we have to pay for that experience at Hideaway Beach. Any way they can profit from us they will. They are just being greedy now.
Interesting observation...I did Hideaway the last time at CoCo Cay and it was fun but kind of empty. I was wondering if it was just a slow day.
Depending on the ships in port, it is here for a bit!
I am a huge fan of ‘sleepy’ Coco Cay! I was there in April and Celebrity Beyond was there with us (wish I saw Captain Kate). It was not crowded at all.
I just got off the independence may 25-30th and when we went to Cococay we were the only ship there that day. We got lucky! 😅
That is lucky Kayla!! Hope you liked it a little more sleepy!
I can only go to cococay so many times. It seems like every other Caribbean itinerary on Royal Carribean goes there. Meanwhile, if you don't want it super busy, go in the morning. The cabanas are often empty because it's too pricey. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually build another cruise dock so more than two cruise ships can visit during the day. Cococay is one of my least favorite stops because I prefer going to ports where I can do excursions and travel around the island.
I am with you! I have actually called it the new Nassau where more people are staying on the ship because "they have been there, done that" already.
I have a BIRTHDAY group of 50 ppl, in August 24, going to Coco Cay. Finding out that they have taken away the pool party 🥳 / aerobics 🏊🏽♀️ class in the Oasis Lagoon has REALLY messed up the trip!!! I have been telling EVERYONE that's going how much FUN they're going to have and how it makes it such a "PERFECT DAY!" 😠 THANKS A LOT RCL! 😡😡😡 This will be my last trip to Coco Cay! #REALLYDISAPPOINTED
Awww, sorry to hear that Mia! Try to still go with an open mind of how much fun you can have and maybe a portable speaker to bring your own party ;-) With 50 people, yall are going to bring a strong energy anywhere you go!
Definitely wasn't the case during Spring Break with the Odyssey and Symphony both there. Luckily we were able to hide from the crowds in the Beach Club
Now that is when CocoCay Beach Club is worth every dollar!
I am looking forward to when Celebration Key is completed. I am thinking the competition will bring down the price of the Coco Cay included stops. Right now Royal is out of my budget so Coco Cay is not an option.
It should! It will certainly help level the playing field.
52 cruises and I've never visited CocoCay. I wonder what all the excitement is about.
haha if you sail with Royal Caribbean, that is quit the accomplishment!!!
We used to lovelock Beach club but the prices have climbed to Outrageous.
To me, these islands owned by the cruise lines are so expensive and commercialized. It is all about the money. Of course, safety is an issue too. Passengers can be on the island and not in ports where "security" is a problem with the local people.
You mentioned perhaps 20,000 people being on Coco Cay sometime.....Could the day come when 200,000 passengers disembark 10 ships to "enjoy the experience".
I like to get off the ship in Aruba, take the local bus for $3 up to 7 Mile Beach. Walk down to the beach and enjoy less crowds. Simply amazing. Then take the $3 bus back to town to board the ship. Strange...right??? Grant in Phoenix
Hey Grant, you are not alone in feeling it is over commercialized. It is one reason that Ocean Cay Marine Reserve with MSC is one of my favorite private islands! I think the day will come when we see 40,000 people at CocoCay (4 Oasis Class ships) but they have some work to do to make that happen. Past that, they will need to buy another island. Seems all the cruise lines are trying to build out their private island network.
lol, I just talked to a lady at work who loves Carnival and RC. She loves Carnival more BUT RC has a dock to their private island and Carnival uses tenders.
That is changing! The pier is a huge improvement on the ability for the ship to dock. We used to call CocoCay CocoCan't hahaha
Debating taking advantage of current RCL sale to try CoCo Beach Club with Icon of the Seas there the same day, but now thinking it might not be too hard to find a quiet spot on the island.
Hey Rick! If you have not tried the CBC, you might as well! Just qued up a video to compare CBC to Hideawy that should be out in two weeks to help decide! Nothing wrong with giving it a whirl but you can def enjoy other ares.
Thanks Brandon. Will look for tbe video! Hope you are well!
Sleepy is awesome if your target market is the Princess Transatlantic Crowd
Royal says it wants young families with young kids and a more vibrant client
I find that moving the DJ behind a paywall is more nickel and diming and has made Oasis pool more boring.
As the novelty subsides I doubt people will be willing to pay for Hideaway
The price of the waterpark is declining meaning demand is falling
Worse, when Celebrity is there with a Royal ship the entire island is even more dull
I noticed it and the staff says it as they stand around bored
You have a lot of older Royal clients still under the delusion that they are the target demographic and are happy that it's becoming less vibrant
Threats from Virgins Bimini Beach Club and the upcoming Celebration Key with a budget of $500MM plus
You make a good point on the upcoming competition for private islands. It has been unique to Royal but that is changing as every cruise line is getting into this market now. Will be interesting how it levels out the playing field.
Hideaway Bay is where the party (DJ) is now.
It's a lot nicer now you no longer tender in, other than that we do the same. Bit of beach time, hit the lunch and back to the ship. Only once in our last 3 stops there did we dig in our wallet for an upsell , well not really an upsell we did the Jetski thing. It's a lot warmer doing it there than in our backyard (literally) where even in summer the lake rarely hit's 80 deg. Like your content , like Emma cruise you're fair and interesting.
Thanks Brian and greatly appreciate that! Anytime I am lumped with Emma, I am always honored!
We were there yesterday on Symphony of the seas alone with Wonder. It a little crowded it was okay. We wasn’t spending extra money for cabanas nor Hideaway beach
Don't blame you for not spending the extra money. No need to do that!
They want a mortgage payment to rent those freaking things
they really do... and people pay it!
Loved Coco Cay before they turned it into a "perfect day". Now we try to avoid it.
I loved it pre perfect day too! It was sooo relaxing and a great experience with the tender. I don't avoid it but I def do not look forward to it as much.
I’m sad they took away the DJ at Oasis Lagoon, that was one of my joys of going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. It’s sad that now you have to pay to go to Hideaway Beach to maybe have a pool party. Royal Caribbean is becoming so boring. I’ve always been a RC person but they’re slowly pushing me towards Carnival. I just booked a Carnival Cruise and I’m really excited about it. I haven’t been on a Carnival Cruise since 2015.
That is awesome! I actually booked one of y first Carnival cruises too for next year!
Prices are NOT coming down :(
I'm more hoping they will stabilize and stop going up :-) It's also why I never spend money on the ship.
Hideaway beach I heard was a party
It sure is these days! A paid party.
@@TheWeekendCruiser we used part of an onboard credit to get our passes so if we don’t like it, I won’t feel that bad
Adding mispronunciation of cay to my list of grammar annoyances. 😁
haha that is a subjective statement. Which way is the mispronunciation? ;-)
@@TheWeekendCruiser cay, key, and quay are all pronounced the same way. They all sound like “key”. Perfect Day at Coco “key” just doesn’t have the same ring for marketing purposes.
We were there on Adventure OTS along with Icon OTS....waaaayyy to many people...not a great experience
That will certainly change it! That is like having 3 more Reflection ships there when I was there!
Just wait. I'm booked on Reflection this summer and there's tons of people bringing their kids. I'm not one of them. I didn't feel like Celebrity would be a good fit for my kids.
That's a good call out! Summer months when the kiddos are out of school might be a game changer during the season...
Is it free to go
For the most part yes. We went with our 2 kids (3, 8) and they loved it. They have 2 areas for them to play for free, slides, and an awesome splash pad, and a pirate ship for the littler ones. If you want to go into the water park the price jumped up in the last 3 years but still not TOO bad I guess. That's got the large water slides and wave pool etc. Then hideaway I think cost money and cabanas. But everything else is free. Free area for food, and another area you will have to pay for different food. But again almost everything else is free.
Outside of paying for your cruise, CocoCay is free with MANY opportunities to spend extra money. Here is a good video I made on all there is to do free there! th-cam.com/video/ZmSvZWVbvzc/w-d-xo.html
I wonder how long Celebrity will continue to sail there if they make more money from RCL docking a ship there. Maybe the solution (as you say) is to build a new pier...
I think the new pier is def going to be happening. Celebrity will be pushed out by Oasis class ships eventually but if they see the revenue spike with this port, they will def find a way to get them there or another island.
So glad to hear that going to Perfect Day has not necessarily attracted more little children to Celebrity. Because that certainly was my concern.
Same! Monitoring to see if this changes but I am not thinking it will.
People on the Reflection are less apt to be interested in most of Cocoa Cay
This was one of my observations when Celebrity announced they were going to CocoCay. I was like, where are all the Celebrity folks asking to go here? It didn't make sense.
🛳🛳🛳
"Hundreds of thousands of chairs". Really? 🙃
YES! Literally, the island prob has 6,000+ chairs. It's insane. I'll make a video of me counting each one next time I am there ;-)
Why would anyone leave the ship just to be price gouged?
There are a lot of free options there. It is more an offer for you to volunteer to be price gouged. You def don't have to sign up for it! (I don't). th-cam.com/video/ZmSvZWVbvzc/w-d-xo.html
It’s probably because everything is so expensive 🤷♂️
Slow slow cay
Your review is all over the place. Using negative wording like "sleepy" and "loosing energy", yet saying you enjoy it. Why not try wording that matches your review like, "Peaceful" "Intimate" "Quiet"....
Hey Trent! Great question! In thinking of the naming of this video, I wanted to use language people wanted to click on the video to find out more (some mystery). Some would already consider CocoCay to be "peaceful" or "quite" and wouldn't highlight the true change that had happened. Sleepy was the word that came to me while on the Island and that was how the video idea was born. With ALL that being said, viewers on TH-cam at a significantly higher percentage click on thumbnails that have a negative connotation to it. I can make the BEST content but if people don't click on it, it doesn't go anywhere. I am not one who tried to click-bait folks but genuinely believed it spoke to my two points around it being sleepy 1) CocoCay was sleepy and loosing energy and 2) I enjoyed that it was sleepier and had less energy. Hope this wasn't too long of an explanation of my thoughts.
FK talk too much.
Hey Long Luu! I am not sure what FK means? Can you help me out on that?
