I can't find a large enough rain protector for a large heavy duty anti squirrel bird feeder. I live in the UK where there is non stop rain! The feeders are on my 4th floor balcony overlooking a park. I get lots of small birds relying on the food. I don't want to endanger them. Please help xxx
I know rain has to be an issue for you. I just don't have any source that I know of for you in the UK. Under the eaves can help but you may have to improvise a cover. Possibly an old umbrella.
The largest plastic covers are the ones primarily made as squirrel baffles. The Super Tube Top and Super Dome featured here shopbackyardbirdcenter.com/collections/hoods-1 one of the problems with make hoods larger is they catch the wind so bad.
Would have liked this video to be longer! Your good at educating us! I brought my feeders in cause we're having a lot of rainstorms!
Thanks Shirley!

Do the make covers longer out of plastic, to protect more of feeders?

The trouble is that the hood needs to be wider than the base. Most are as wide as the base, so water still gets on the food. Here in The U.K anyway.
@@janne2744 unfortunately, there was a no protection from sideway rains
Do nyjer socks need rain protection?
It certainly is advisable. The socks are very vulnerable to rain. Under the eave or under a weather dome are ways to protect it.
Will a heavy rain ruin suet?
Heat is the bigger enemy of suet. A prolonged rain without a chance to dry out could possibly make it go moldy.
