  • This video will explain the process for taking your Iron Cobra apart and preparing it for restoration. These are great pedals and well worth the time and effort to restore them.

8:55 Saved my butt. I didn't sandwich the spacer and my rig was wobbly. I was so confused for so long. Thanks Wally.

Awesome. I bought one of these used it’s in great shape but it’s a little rusty and the guy that had it adjusted very oddly. I wanna clean it up and zero it in

I came across an Iron Cobra (previous generation) at a guitar center I go to. I jumped on it since the price used and the condition it was in I couldn’t pass it up. This was around December 2023. A couple months ago they had a power glide double but the rubber was coming off so I passed on it.
This past weekend I went on a Friday and they had a speed cobra 910 (new gen) double pedal. In decent condition so I jumped on it to try it out. I had to go back Saturday to get it. But I have 45 days to try it out and return it.
I’m thinking of the 900 iron cobra power glide double or the Yamaha FP-9 double.

I think those are called "pre-iron cobras". They have the "TAMA" brand name across the entire footboard. I believe Scott Travis (drummer / Judas Priest) uses this type of pedal. The footboard seems like they are more heavy-duty. I've been using these pre- iron cobras since the '90's. I tried to switch and use the iron cobra but they just don't feel the same. Regardless, the parts are interchangeable across both platforms - many platform of pedals.

Thanks Wally! The master side Vari-Pitch beater holder on my 15 year old Iron Cobra twins just broke a few days ago, luckily I have the speed cobras for my main kit, but I was afraid I'd have to replace the other set for my practice pad kit until I found this video and found a replacement part for $18. The complete part with the bushing is HP914, the beater holder without bushing is HP9142, and the bushing alone is HP941, in case anyone else is looking for these parts.

Sometimes it's wise to buy a pedal for parts. You'll see them listed as "Pedal For Parts".

Just got my first iron cobra double pedal, never needed one with two bass drums, but alas I am down to 1 bass drum. Both my new kit, and my new double pedal are used and I am still building the hw setup but this was helpful as this pedal was filthy. I still can't tell if it is a 600 or a 900. But it appears to be the same one you are working on here.

My main pedal is the "pre-iron cobra" with the more angular foot pedal. I think the drummer fro Judas Priest uses the same pedal. But the Iron Cobra is a great pedal - both single and double.

The set screws that hold in the spacers on either side of the shaft are completely stuck for me. I was able to pry out one of the spacers, but the screw is still stuck and the bearing behind it won't come out because the screw is still in front of it. I think the screws have become stripped from me using an Allen key to remove them. I've used a drill bit and other screwdrivers but nothing is working. Is there anything I can do to get those two screws out?

my pedal is an airon snake hp600 is it normal for it to have a slack in the shaft of the beaters? Doubt me this doubt.

Wally, if I have a single Iron Cobra and I buy a master double pedal without the slave, can my single be used as the slave? Nobody seems to know or can give me an answer. Thank you, -Adam

I recently did the same thing. Most, if not all, of the parts are interchangeable-even back to the single chain drives. The "Pre-Iron Cobra" days. I had to do some modifications (drilling and tapping).

My one year old iron cobra has a squeak, I tried lubricating and it’s still there. Any tips appreciated. It sounds like it’s coming somewhere around the cam. Thanks

Any moving part is suspect. There is a video how to take it apart and grease everything. It might be a bearing but this have seals. So you might have to buy a new bearing. Good Luck and let me know. Thanks.

This question might have the answer in the video but I skimmed over it lol. How do i remove the rod and everything at the pivot point? (Where the board and heel plate connect and pivot)

You'll have to buy a metric socket set.
