  • I fix my ebay purchased Iron Cobra 900 single pedal with a new footboard... more or less. It actually saves me money to fix rather than buy a working one...even with a brand new part... which is nice.

Nice vid Ryan, thanks. I did this to my Iron Cobra years ago just to see how everything worked. It wasn’t broken or anything, I just wanted to have an understanding what I could adjust or how it was made. It helped me to get the best result from my pedal.Maybe a tip for someone to get to know your pedal better.

Wow, that old IC has seen some hard times. I would have done a full refurb, and my OCD would have made me use the correct 'factory' screws in all spots. :D

After I turned off the camera I was like “why did I just use that dumb screw!?” I had another Tama screw and I immediately replaced the non-matching one. The bearings and spring and everything else about this pedal seem to be in good shape. Just needed that footboard and was missing the felt. It feels really solid and smooth now that the chain is padded and lubed. I also found some actual felt after posting the video…

Funny you made a video like this. Just a week ago my slave board was squeaking and acting up. And I tried taking it all apart and put back together but nope still sqeaking. So I thought the bearings were fugged so I was just gonna buy a new board. But it turns out the bottom hinges were too tight so loosed up and bam fixed.

Kids this is what years of swivel double kick technique will do to your pedal. 😂

Thank you for posting this video! I'm searching high and low - could you recommend a link for aftermarket bearings? Need this for one IC pedal plus for a pair of used Camcos I recently picked up. Tama doesn't have any part numbers for this that I could locate. Thank you!

You will probably need to just remove the old bearing and carefully measure it. You can buy any size bearing you can imagine from online non-musical suppliers. That’s where pedal makers get them. They don’t make their own bearings, they just buy them. So all you need to do is determine the proper size. I don’t know what that is because I’ve never had one wear out.

I found these used at GC for the low and jumped on them exact same ones but don’t know what exact generation these are by any chance would you know?

Wow, that poor footboard, I never saw it crack like this. I think that it is time to check my own Cobras, very precisely :D

Great vid, I had a similar urge and changed the plates in my Pearl eliminator double pedals and Hihats so they all matched. How do you find the IC?

Good job! I think matching the singles instead of the backup double was the right decision. But then again I won't be the one to switch them around if it wasn't. 😅👍 Did you get a Wicked Chops practice pad yet? They are AWESOME!

No, I have 5 pads so it’s hard to want to buy another one…

Thanks for posting this - I was trying to find a way to remove the foot plate from the heel plate which led me here. Best I can tell there's no way to remove the shaft from the heel plate? It seems permanently fixed in place on my Iron Cobra, and it seems the only way to remove the foot plate from the heel plate is if the hinges break in some way like your example here.

Also I'm starting to get lil better at double bass. Only thing is my left foot is my primary focus on practicing. I developed a bad habit of instead of like my right foot being very consistent, my left foot has this weird problem of instead of going consistent is does this ''1 and 2 and 1 and 2'' motion.. lol idk if you know what I mean, but its like a corrupted ankle motion. Probably something new to you, but I'm curious if you have a method to make a more consistent motion?

My main tip is to work with the pedal motion. Most people with trouble are fighting against their pedal action and are too tense.
