J is the only guitar player that can squeeze anguish, pain, frustration, beauty and grief out of an electric guitar without being a blues picker. I've always loved this band, cause they weren't afraid to be a rock band. Unlike a lot of anemic British bands...
There's only a few guitar players where you can just feel the emotion and heart and soul in their solos and j mascis is one of them for me, also jimi hendrix, the bends and the noise and all of it, it doesn't feel mechanical or just another part of the song, it feels like words speaking to you without words, if that makes sense.
it's looks like J's & Co. are playing to the absolute void..something like a post-apocalpytic scenario where J is attempting to conjure back existence with the sheer primordial force of his solo!
hair covering his face.. just love jay. he's brilliant pure n simple. he could care less about image as long as his music stands the test of time and it does by a long shot! go mascus!!!!!!!!!!
Man that is just so good. There is some damn good music coming out right now if you look for it... But nothin like this. Just freaking totally kickass.

I've been practicing this song lately.. been playing guitar for 20 years, but soloing on this track is actually starting to make my fingers bleed it's that hot
j's guitar playing ability and song writing abilities are so fuckin sick tht he may subconciously be smarter then he thinks...idk...i hope someone understands, jam on
Thank you for the compliment :) I don't know about current bands though, I mainly just listen to stuff from the 60s/70s/80/90s haha. Though this modern band Piano Magic are pretty great...

Well Lou Barlow once said that J didnt give a fuck about the audience and he would turn up the amps all the way. That was back in the day, i think it hasnt changed a bit hahahaha. J and the band have been using earplugs for the past 20 years so i wouldnt be too worried about them xD
They were playing at the same time man. That's like saying that The Byrds inspired The Beatles, or that Blue Cheer inspired Jimi Hendrix. By the time You're Living All Over Me was out, Nirvana had already started playing songs that would end up on Bleach live. They were both brilliant, but they didn't influence one another.
Juliana Hatfield did a great cover version of this one! By the way, check out my videos - Dinosaur Jr Live in Sweden 2005. Mascis totally beats the livin' crap out of Yngwie Malmsteen.
They didn't inspire Nirvana, Nirvana was already together when You're Living All Over Me came out. They were contemporaries, J was even offered the option to join Nirvana early on in its cycle (though he turned it down).
it was early 1993, this shoot. I did the monitor mixes in the studio. it was the loudest thing we'd ever done in there.
Prolly one of the best, if not the best, DJ live recordings ever! Nice job!

Back when J was PISSED.
You're Living All Over Me was their peak for sure, a definate cult classic.
"Now you'll have to decide the fate of my sanity"
Beautiful and sad at the same time.
wow, this may go down as one the best j's live solos. Also is singing in that period tried to be a bit more aggressive than usual.
agreed
This is so good, it's ridiculous.

The thing about them is that they played and sang about love in a way that made sense, and still does.

I’m glad someone else feels this way their song “the lung” is a good example of that

J looks so cute doing his little dance 🤭
As a drummer I can tell Murph is hitting the heck out of those drum so hard...
I think it's George Berz
@@liammcooperit's Murph
Way better solo than the album version, too. Makes you wonder if that whole masterpiece of a solo was just off the cuff.
these guys made me want to play guitar, legends!
Same
one of the best dino jr songs, and one of the best live recordings of the band as well.fucking win all round
I just cried watching that and not for the first time. J, and Morello and David Gilmour for me are the best around.
This is the best ever live rendition of a DJ song..the solo is a masterpiece
j a legend holy shit

The thing about J. Mascis is that he sang about romance in a way that made sense at the time.

J Master
Such a good solo
mascis' voice is so fierce on this, way different from the original version...
true.. I don't think he would be singing today if he had kept pushing his voice like that though
what a solo, can't wait til may 18th to see them.
So much better than the album version

klioy7000 Watson! I’ve watched this a thousand times and never saw you

Awesome band, song and version, thanks a lot RicDube, plus the sound is pretty good, and the song rarely seen on video, isn't it?

The title spelled the song wrong. It's spelled "Raisans", not the usual "raisins"
cool jacket & belt j wears
i love it

Amazing, amazing song. Too bad they speeld it wrong in the title.
Michael Johnson - the bassist looks like Jared Leto.

Anybody know what pedal J is using at 3:53?
Delay, dd-3 maybe
Evandro Depiante thanks!
here our test subject can be seen giving in to the lsd......
haha
does anyone know what effect j is using from 1:41-2:01???
Where’s lou at ???:-(
i. e., the standard J Mascis Guitar Hero Costume
The title of the song is spelled "Raisans" -- you might want to change that if you want more people to find this clip.
11 years later lol. I found it though
haha yeah I noticed that too..the correct spelling is actually wrong.
A guitar website maybe?...
Why come onto youtube for this?
ill be down... wish lou was around... at this show

Who's that on bass?

Sounds just like the dude from mudhoney
hmmm debatable.. Mascis > Clapton IMO.
