Aston-by-Stone Level Crossing

Wednesday June 19 2024 at 12.40. The 10.53 London Euston to Manchester (13.31) running 24 minutes late. This is the West Coast Main Line. I came here last year but no trains appeared. Last filmed here 11 years ago • Stone Level Crossing and I remember it well as it is a distinctive crossing. Since then there are new lights and more tiles have fallen off the old crossing keeper's bungalow. The double white line on the crossing has gone too. Car tyres shouldn't normally reach it. Nothing has been cut from the video so the train arrived about 2 minutes after it activated. Not sure that was long enough. Could the train have stopped if the crossing operator had spotted a vehicle stuck on the crossing and put the signals to danger? Hopefully the Level Crossing Manager double checks this sort of thing. This was a half barrier crossing in the early 2000's and there was talk about spending £3.5M to replace it with a bridge.
