    The main competition, well the only competition is the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak which is like 33k euros I belive, so I honestly belive that the base bike will be around 25k and with the performance pack and some luggage gets to the 32kish mark.

  • @motocritic
    @motocritic ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Everyone who doubts that antiwings are really needed on a fast road bikes should watch my Multistrada V4 S footage. Believe my word: these winglets are VERY MUCH needed on a road bikes, and they work really great at high speeds. They add a lot of downforce, making a bike many times more stable, maneuverable, and managable above 200 km/h. That's what I personally experienced on Streetfighter V4 and Multistrada V4 S while riding: they were perfectly stable and maneuverable even at their top speeds. Unlike all the other road bikes without winglets: they are unstable and therefore dangerous at high speeds.

    I think I’d go for the XR over all of them. The only thing I don’t like is the sculpted seat that prevents any movement. Maybe a custom RDL seat could help.

    • @jeffbrownme2
      @jeffbrownme2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. I was at the dealer and tried the new and old XR and 100% could not get over the new bikes seat. You are legit locked into that thing. No room for any type of movement or lean. There are other seats but the design of the bike itself makes you really just swooped into the valley it makes. You'd have to flatten out the seat which adds more to an already extremely high seat height. I may look for a stock lowered suspension and mess with different seats if I ever upgrade to the new gen.

    With a top speed of 175mph, a tall bike will need help with stability at high speed, so wings are more of a necessity than the sportsbikes. The v4 multistrada and standard s1000r/XR engines put out similar power on a dyno, so the more powerful cam profile will make for quite a difference. The v4 does feel really nice in the real world though. Well done BMW for this 'prototype ' 👍🍻

    • @motocritic
      @motocritic ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I test rode S1000XR multiple times, and also Multistrada V4 S, and I totally agree with you about vibrations: I felt the same thing on XR. I don't sure that they restricted M1000XR: maybe they didn't. It's top speed might be limited with a rev limiter and not with the top speed limiter. At least that's how it is on S1000XR and Multistrada V4. It's all down to the gearing.

      I bought my 2016 XR new and it now has 15k miles on its clock. The vibrations are NOT an issue. They were noticeable between 4-5000 rpm. After installing the heavier bar weights (50$) and after the bike was broken in, they are now almost non existent. I think the XR is the perfect bike. Tour, carve, commute. What else do I need?

    • @motocritic
      @motocritic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomvriniotis6733, of course vibration are an issue on the S1000XR. I know that a lot of the owners of vibrating bikes choose to just ignore the vibrations like they aren't there. But they ARE there. Besides, vibrations are not the only issue of the older S1000XR generations. They have a very harsh suspensions, that doesn't soak up any bumps at all even in the softer mode. Wind protection is bad wit a lot of buffeting. Fuel mileage is really poor (unless you ride it like a grandma). Also, S1000 family are known to have a very bad reliability with engines blowing out here and there.
      It's great that your bike is perfect for you, but for the majority of riders S1000XR is very far from being perfect.

    I think one of it’s key rivals will be BMW’s own GS. A lot of people like the prestige of the GS and this looks to have a similar level of appeal.

    Nice one Bob. My only question to BMW is why? Or I guess why not. It’s more of a why in my opinion as it’s not a homologated bike to meet WSB requirements. So as only less than 0.1% of all riders will be able to extract 100% of the standard bike’s capabilities then it will be purchased by people where money is like toilet paper.

    • @t3h8ar0n

      I'm stoked on this - the "why" is people who want superbike performance but who are too tall (or maybe just older, whatever) to ride superbikes comfortably (I'm 6'5, and even the s1000rr, which is relatively comfortable for a superbike is a non-starter). I had a 2016 XR for several years for that exact reason, but while it was very powerful, it was rampagingly powerful like a superbike - now I can get the superbike power, but in a more comfortable package - I'm all for it!

      @@t3h8ar0n Any years of racing experience behind you? As a 6’2” ex Australian Superbike racer who started out racing small 250 cc two strokes size isn’t necessarily a determining factor in what bike is best suited as we are all different and can make our own choices. As just a street and dirt bike rider these days I’m fortunate to have several 2 wheeled options to choose. One thing, for me at least is I know a bike like this would be a waste on the streets and not a top 10 choice to explore it’s capabilities on track anyone can go fast in a straight line.

    I fully understand the reasoning behind the M1000RR and even to a degree the M1000R as a competitor to the Ducati V4 Streetfighter but IMO a 200 bhp sports tourer isn't needed and I've never heard anyone say they want one.

      Similarly wondering if a 13,000 RPM screamer motor is THE thing for bikes of these types. How will the BMW power/area under the torque curve from say 3000-8000 rpms compare to the Pikes Peak V4. That is where we ride these bikes with bags and wives on the back. But hell yes--I'll take a look--from the seat of my lovely Pikes Peak V4.

    Doesen't matter how much bling and hp they add to that bike they have to sort out the vibrations! Drove a 2022 model for 2000 km and it vibrates a lot unpleasant vibrations. The seat makes it hard to move and that is very strange because a motorcycle you should drive with your body.
