Thanks man. After replacing one of my rear wheel hubs, I messed up the shoe and couldn’t recall how it went back on; and you’re the only person who had a clear, informative video on how to do it.
TIP: When pushing the piston back into the caliper housing place one of the old brake pads between the C clamp and the piston face so that you are putting even pressure across the piston. Doing so will lower your chances of screwing up the piston. Thanks for making these great videos!! They’ve come in really handy with working on my Nissan. Keep up the good work!
Correct. Also it is better to simply open the bleeder screw and push the fluid out through there. Pushing it all the way up through the master cylinder can possibly damage the seals on the MC...especially if the MC is older.
@@stevemccooleq On vehicles with caliper parking brakes that need the pistons screwed in, opening the bleeder is almost a must. Correct -- just open them all & it makes it easier & doesn't have fluid coming over the master reservoir. I bleed all four corners before any brake work, then flush after any work or every 3 years. On older vehicles I remove the master & piston & clean the inside before a final flush. If you have both calipers off put some wood & a clamp on the caliper your not working on so the piston doesn't come out.
Thanks for the informative videos. You do an excellent job explaining the process as you're going thru the steps. It makes it much easier to understand
Don’t know if the comments covered this but please inspect grease and or replace as needed your caliper guide pins/boots. Hung caliper will wipe out your new brakes and rotor quick fast and in a hurry.
Thanks for this. Only thing I did differently was use the existing springs, pins, and expander. They were still in good shape and were better quality than the aftermarket ones I bought.
Great video, but you should specify for what year its gonna be good for or what brake type you're working on in the title, i know that my 2000 xterra has drum brakes in the rear and not disk brakes, which is what i was looking for
This is a great video. Helped me do exactly the same thing on my 2006 Frontier. One suggestion for you, since you are also working on the emergency brake as well as the rear brakes/rotors, it would be helpful if you can somehow reference your other view on adjusting the e-brake. I completed everything and then needed to pull off the rear tires etc. again to adjust the brake. A note on the other view while everything is off the car would be my only recommendation. Fantastic work.
Thank you my 2006 Nissan armada with 296k lite came on without check lite indicator I changed battery and I think that was the cause but reset worked thank you so much😊
Great video! I need to replace my rear dust covers but can’t find them online or local auto parts store. Any idea where I can find them? Thank you and keep up the great vid’s.
Hey, so are the shoes in the drum just for the parking brake? So if I need to replace my brakes as in I'm having trouble slowing down, I only need to replace the brake pads in the caliper and maybe I could take a look at the shoes and if they look like shit I could think about replacing them? Good video BTW, very thorough
Thank you so much for the Very Informative video. Clear and you make it seem very easy, before this video I hadn't been able to find xterra brake videos, you are awesome!
Ry, I want to sincerely thank you for these amazing Xterra videos! They have helped tremendously! There are not too many people who go into as much detail as you do so thank you! I would like to ask if I need to replace the e brake drums when I replace the rear rotors, calipers, and pads or can I leave them alone? Also do you have a video on replacing the calipers with new unloaded calipers? Thank you!!!
Hi Ry, for what year range of Xterra is this instruction applicable....2nd Gen 2005-2015? Also, for this job is there any difference for the Xterra "Off Road" (4X4) compared to non-4X4?
Hi, I have a Nissan frontier 2004 4x4, it is possible to change to rear disc brake, and if that xterra works for me and what year is that. Thanks for the help.
That is there so you can adjust the brake shoes. You would line up the hole with the adjuster, slide a small screw driver in, and push the adjuster until the pads are in the right place.
I have been watching your videos for awhile now. Every time we put the Xterra in reverse the brake pedal takes a long time to rise back up, releasing the brake. The pedal slowly moves up, making a noise as if the brakes are still on, then when it's all the way up it reverses just fine. Moving forward the brakes work just fine! The transmission was recently replaced (but I had the same problem before the replacement). I took it to two different mechanics and they told me to take it to the dealership. However I don't want to exorbitant prices at the dealership. Please help...
Im doing the rear on my 2010 xterra because i smelt a burning smell and my back rim was hot, so i got rotors and pads and realized my calipers would not press in with a c clamp, so i went to autozone and got 2 new calipers, 1 was under warranty, now im trying to bleed them with the same pump u use and its not a steady easy stream coming out like the fronts.. the fronts bleed easy but the rears will take fluid but not alot , what could be wrong? Or is it normal for the rears to do that ? The calipers are brandnew and my old pads where like new , prob because as soon as i smelt the burning i took it apart, so i dont know if a brake line is messed up but they look fine, i remember u sayi g the rear is separate from front so maybe something is blocking fluid..
hi ry can you do oil change i have nissan pathfinder 2009 and I wana know how much oil level on lipstick and how to measure it and right way also i I'd to email you cus my car burning oil and I be sure from the cus pvc valve is good and it maby valve seal huge fan of your video from Iraq
I got Frontier 2010, 4.0, KingCab SE 4x4 - did anyone ever replaced the rear backing plates?? When it comes to the videoclip, I missed the part about adjuster, after it is in, should I leave it at "minimum" setting, or unscrew it until I feel some resistance?? thank for any answer.
Jason Roueche Thats actually my T-shirt that I designed for my channel. It used to be a reward for becoming a Patreon supporter. I plan on selling them in the future.
I just put it up that way because I find it easier. If you need to do it one side at a time then a jack is fine as long as you trust it. Just chock your wheels and go to town!

I’ve commented on many of your videos before, and again, thank you for the crisp and clean, clear images, as well as explanations! You rock
You are very welcome, thank you for watching.
I know it's been a long time but I found myself watching this tutorial... Great job!
Thanks for the informative videos. You do an excellent job explaining the process as you're going thru the steps. It makes it much easier to understand

Thanks for the tutorial, some good tips , hardest part was the shoes tie down springs

Back again for more schooling! Always wildly appreciative of your videos Ry!!
Great video thank you. I'll be doing this in the morning
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Got this job done today. I also purchased one of your T-Shirts to support the chan. Thanks for the videos Ry!!
Thanks so much!
Oh my! I am going to learn how to maintain my own car! Thank you, Ry!!
You're welcome!! Thanks for watching!
Great video. This is the only video I could find that was well detailed.
My pleasure, tell your friends ;)
I really appreciate all your videos! I’m sure these take a lot of time to film and edit but they’re definitely a big help. 👍🏼
Yea some of them can be a lot of work but I like putting stuff out there that helps people. Thanks for watching.
Great video, but you should specify for what year its gonna be good for or what brake type you're working on in the title, i know that my 2000 xterra has drum brakes in the rear and not disk brakes, which is what i was looking for

Try Pull-A-Part lots.
Love the vids..I have the same year xterra and working on the same stuff that he's fixing..
Thanks got a better understanding on how to do it. 👍
Nice!
Nice video what happens if you get grease on your new brake pads? And they get installed like that??
I found it it's under adjusting emergency brake ty you rock!!!
Excellent Video. Very helpful and straight forward. Exactly what I needed. Keep up the good work.
Ry have you done your rear bearings? I am tackling the nissan xterra 2005 rear wheel bearings on Saturday.
Good work! Thx for the vid. Can you affectively ditch the word affectively though?
I affectively have a word that I like to over use each video. Affectively it's affectively in this particular video. 🤣
Thanks alot been awhile since i did my own brakes and never did them on my X before was a great refresher
💪🏻💪🏻
Ry, Very well done video. Well spoken and edited! Thank you so much. This was extremely helpful. Please keep up the good work for us Tards! Stay safe.
Haha 😂 will do. Thanks for watching.
Any videos on the rear bub or bearing replacement?
Nope.
Can you use some of that lithium grease on the inside of the star adjusting barrel to keep the threads lubed.
Hey do a video on balljoint and control arm upper and lower

Hey Ry when you gonna do your engine motor mount thanks
No plans right now. They are still in great shape,
Thank you so much for the Very Informative video. Clear and you make it seem very easy, before this video I hadn't been able to find xterra brake videos, you are awesome!
Hey Ry do you have to adjust the ebrake adjuster in the center console after this is done?

Use the old brake pad to evenly push back the caliper piston when installing the new pads
Thank you so much for these videos! Do you have a link to those red jacks you used?
Thank you sir! What is the little hole in the rotor for?
That is there so you can adjust the brake shoes. You would line up the hole with the adjuster, slide a small screw driver in, and push the adjuster until the pads are in the right place.
Ok got it, how do you know when to adjust it? You did not show it on your video, I am about to do my brakes soon and I dont want to screw it up 👍
Excellent presentation, awsome job
+Bob Pangasinan thx!
Should I replace the whole set up or just the rotors if they’re just a bit warm
If they bass are fine you can replace just the rotors. NBD.
Good video, very informative! Thanks 🙏🏼
I have been watching your videos for awhile now.

good job bro keep up more videos to due brakes jobs.
Great video buddy this helped me a lot.
what is that second set of bolts called? The ones that are 19mm? One of mine FELL OFF after a "REPAIR", of course on a Friday night.
Do you mean the caliper bracket bolts?
awesome video. realistically how often do you have to replace the brake shoes? if I juat want to replace my rotors and pads is that okay?
Yea that would be fine. You really only have to change out the shoes when you emergency brake does not work as well as you want it to.
I have a 2002. Do you think it would be similar to this? Great xterra vids!
+Jeffrey B yea, honestly they are all really similar
Thank you.
Make sure that the hand break is down. That way the rear rotors spin and easy take off.
This is for a drum rear brake? I havd a 2000 nissan xterra
What year is this??? Why dont any of these xterra videos ever put the year
Is it necessary to replace the disk/drum when doing to pads and shoes or is it only required if the disk are worn or damaged?
Only when damaged or worn.
Thanks the best video
🤘🏻👍🏻
Have a rattling noise and rear brake what could it possibly be for 2003 Nissan exterior
good job
Thanks!
Do you have to change the shoes when changing rotors and pads?
Only if they are worn. Just check them each time you have the tire off.
hi ry
can you do oil change i have nissan pathfinder 2009 and I wana know how much oil level on lipstick and how to measure it and right way

huge fan of your video from Iraq

Where did you buy your new brakes i bought mine at O'Reilly and there giving me problems
Dont remember, I usually say right in the video. Probably autozone/rockauto/Amazon.
Do you have to adjust the expander to a certain height?
I was wondering the same thing, did you find an answer?
Good job
THank you.
Im confused, does my 2001 xterra have drum brakes or disk brakes in the back? Whats in your video looks like a hybrid of both?
It it both on the second gen. Not sure about first gen
Ry quick question I seen you wear a xterra shirt that says don't replace repair with a xterra in background. Where did you get it?
Jason Roueche Thats actually my T-shirt that I designed for my channel. It used to be a reward for becoming a Patreon supporter. I plan on selling them in the future.
What model years does this apply to?
are jack stands really necessary? or can I get away without ones and just lifting one side at a time...
I just put it up that way because I find it easier. If you need to do it one side at a time then a jack is fine as long as you trust it. Just chock your wheels and go to town!
I had to go with the two-wrench trick to crack mine, but a deadblow would've been so much easier...
Thanks for making the video! Just a heads up, "Replacement" is misspelled in the video title.
Fixing now, Thank you!!
Hell fucking yea man thank you so much if I wasn’t broke as a joke I’d pay a tip to ya for sure
Haha it's all good. Just keep your X on the road.
Hi... My emergency brake get stuck.. Wont come up.. Holding the rear wheel.. Please how do i go about this... Thank you
Nissan xterra 2004
So the disk is for ER not actually the rear brake?
well the disk is for rear brakes. The drum on the inside is only for the emergency brake.
Thanks Ry, BTW, I still post your videos on Nissan Xterra Facebook page, they are life savers for so many people.
Thanks Ahmad, You're awesome!
Correction 206k miles
RY what are you located in?
I'm in the USA.
In the Northeast, nothing will come apart with a few taps. 😂 We need 3 lbs hammers until we can put some anti seize on the hub.
Heard, I grew up in Michigan lol
I just did brakes on all 3 of my cars and trucks. No shame, I put anti seize on all the bolts and the hub lol. And woolwax on the frame.

what year is this xterra?

Nice! mines an 06
this is not a 2002 nissan xterra. google keeps bringing me back to this video but its not even close. what the hell google?
There are not a lot of Xterra videos out there. Maybe that's the problem.
yeah but this video helped a little so im glad the dude made it.
Label the video properly This is only for 2nd Gen Xterras
