      And I always wonder, why this isn't more common in Software-Development...
      They dish out so many awesome Updates in no time, and others take forever to make one disappointing messy update after the other.
      Not looking at anyone in particular, but I simply don't understand, how Cockos is that competent and smart.

      every other company is motivated by profits and have a bunch of people that have to approve every decision. Reaper is just 2 people so they can move fast!

      @@trushreitsam5802 Software development is hard and soulsucking. Big teams cost money and incur overheads (money and time). Time and time again, motivated small groups have blown the pants off computing giants. Computer history is littered with the small team out-pacing the bohemoth. Cockos can move faster, because they're not wasting time communicating/managing people and they dont have huge costs. That and Justin and Schwa are solid programmers, they know wtf they're doing.

      would they even have CLAP support? given VST is competing technology..

    Thanks, Jon, for your video(s)!
    The bypass FX feature is amazing, saving me about 10% of the CPU for my mixing template (around 70 tracks/busses). So glad I've moved to Reaper almost 1 year ago!!!

    Great what's new, great DAW!
    I didn't know Steinberg took down VST 2 (well... I don't read a lot on Audio apps unless a good blogger tells me about stuff :) ).
    What I found weird is that same plugin VST2 version accepts my midi keyboard program change, when the VST3 doesn't accept it, so sometimes I prefer to use the VST2 versions because I wish to scroll through presets with the midi KBD and not PC KBD / Mouse. I'm wondering if the Clap format has any such quirk as the VST3 (or its something in Reaper).
    Cheers, happy music, Merry Christmas and onto a great 2023 year of Reaper music!

    The bypass fx thresh thing is pretty cool. Lets decrease that carbon footprint :)

    Thanks for this another clear and useful video. I am wondering how REAPER knows when to unbypass a plugin when an item is about to start. Does it have a sort of "lookahead" feature? Are there reasons to not use auto-bypass on all plugins everytime? I actually can't see cons using auto-bypass anywhere. Finally, I thought VST3 already had this feature over VST2, but I am probably wrong.

  • @abrotherinchrist
    @abrotherinchrist ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hope adding CLAP means Reaper is going to add polyphonic modulation/automation for individual notes. For example, polyphonic pitch editing.

  • @SeleDreams
    @SeleDreams ปีที่แล้ว

    technically with the DPF framework people can make vst3 plugins under an MIT-like license as they have their own VST3 sdk implementation not relying on steinberg's sdk

  • @JorisVincken
    @JorisVincken ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Not sure how it is implemented in Reaper, but CLAP is a huge update from VST3. It is potentially a lot more CPU efficient and in Bitwig CLAP plugins support per note automation and relative automation (meaning you can automate for example the filter freq. and still change the value in the plugin itself)

      @InXLsisDeo ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You would see considerable CPU usage differences vs VST3 with lots of instances of u-he Diva with its multicore option enabled, most probably. CPU heavy plugins benefit more from CLAP's thread pool feature.

    • @cmd_f5
      @cmd_f5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Truth. ASIO, as great as it is, still has annoying limitations/scenarios all over the place that shouldn't be quite so frustrating to setup.
      Open usually means good. If that means Avid goes away someday....well, all the better. :)

    So I think I missed something. Does the auto-bypass fx feature have to be set every time for VST 3? Or is it one of those things where once you set it, it’ll stay until unchecked?

  • @soundfx68
    @soundfx68 ปีที่แล้ว

    CLAP vs VST3... Did you miss the per note modulation from u-he I heard in Bitwig? "CLAP makes it possible for polyphonic plug-ins to have their per-voice parameters modulated for individual notes"

      I would screenshot the Theme Tweak window showing the colors for theme A, then switch to theme B and copy the colors from the screenshot with the eyedropper tool.

  • @EvilDragon666
    @EvilDragon666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh and just a slight correction: VST3 has no licensing fees attached to it. But the Licensing agreement is quite severe and basically allows Steinberg to pull a rug under you as a pkugo. developer... which they already did with VST2. They can do the same with VST3 once they cook up VST4 or whatever.

  • @InXLsisDeo

    Reaper always first to support new formats. Here just after Bitwig, but Bitwig is one of the authors of the format (kudos to them, much better than a format under license like VST). To the Reaper team: CLAP CLAP CLAP

    My reaper keeps crashing. Waves plugins acting weird like lopsided ...AU's gui glitches or not even working ....Thats only in Reaper. Ableton or Bitwig everything seems to function as expected. Ive encounter so many bugs in Reaper in the past 6 months and im giving up n thinking go back to Ableton. And yes..ive tried everything from updating everything, reinstalling plugins , reinstalling everything even the OS, Still issues are there. IDK Why ...it was the best DAW I ever used before ...now its turning into the same studio one daw nightmare
