    I had no idea Rearoute loopback was a thing. I don’t have the rearoute component installed but I should fix that! I’ve just used either another computer or a field recorder to capture room audio and did a live bounce in Reaper for the DAW audio. This will help immensely.
    The VST plug startup scan tric is useful indeed. Almost every time I load Reapsky it scans even if I didn’t add anything new.
    Thanks as always John for all you do for the Reaper community.
    PS: Will check out Sublime Text; I have been using Textmate or good old Textedit but always looking for new things.
    peace

    Oh yes, the loopback thing is very interesting to record while experimenting and never lose an idea. It would be great to be able to do this with midi too. Thank you so much for all your work, I'm amazed by the effort you put to help other people.

      You have midi retroactive record now to not lose any midi ideas, it was presented like two versions back

    I like the extra channel control. My wildly optimistic imagination always hopes for an update to include something like an FX chain tool similar to FL's Patcher, or finding that Reaper is being rewritten in Rust. Thank you Jon.
    (It's so funny that the Reaper installer is 15MB while the latest PDF Guide is 25MB)

    The Loopback is there since years, now it's expanded to 512. That's great although no one highlighted why in the INI is not there by default. At the current stage it can cause some issue with the ones are also using ReaRoute. Ok that on MAC ReaRoute doesn't exist, so that "who cares" for the Mac users. But the Windows users perhaps have the right to know it so they can choose what to do.
    There was a thread somewhere on the Cockos Forum where they were talking about.

    Could this be used with MIDI as well? Looking for a replacement for Rewire in live performance that can:
    1. Have a “Rack” Project holding lots of softsynths like Kontakt & Hive to be used as “sound modules” at the ready in RAM.
    2. Have a Main Project containing MIDI tracks that route to, play and control the “sound modules” with Prg Change and CC messages.
    3. Use Screensets to instantly (it couldn’t be instant if all the softsynths were in the Main Project, hence the need for Rewire separation) change Track configurations on a song-by-song basis in the Main Project without touching the Rack Project.
    4. The separation of “sound modules” from the Main Project would protect them from being reloaded with each Screenset change.
    Does loopback make this possible?

    The auto saved render file option generates a much more sophisticated and slick graphical representation than what you show here in this video, at least here on my Mac. It's a great new feature actually. Very useful for identifying the loudest peaks, etc. Anyway, your Reaper seems to be creating the old more generic data and graphics.

    You can use Rearoute to connect to OBS studio version 27. You create an asio input in OBS then set the properties and Rearoute and rearoute 1 and rearoute 2 as the channels. The person who developed the ASIO plugin for OBS studio said they are not updating it for 28, they even were talking in OBS discord, people were a bit upset about that. Supposedly there is another obs studio ASIO plugin that does work but it is weird to install. not the same as any other plugin for obs. I still just want to get an Audient interface, they have loopback built in and a little gui that opens up in windows.

    • @TheREAPERBlog
      @TheREAPERBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is unfortunate. Hopefully that extension will be open source and someone can do what's necessary for the v28 update. OBS 28 has been excellent, a real game changer on Mac.

    Hi Reaper Blog, I think you made a significant error, when you stated that Reaper ReRoute is a Reaper internal thing. Hope its ok for me to correct this error in your assertions.
    1. I've been using ReRoute on Windows for at least 6 years.
    2. On Windows ReRoute is a virtual ASIO audio interface that enables any audio app to send audio into a virtual ReRoute audio interface using ASIO, as the audio interface standard, as ReRoute inputs into a Reaper DAW instance. On Windows ReRoute also uses ASIO as the format for a set of virtual audio outputs from a Reaper DAW instance.
    3. Therefore I can send from for example any DAW or AUdio app that supports ASIO outputs, using ReRoute, and receive this audio as inputs in Reaper, or send audio outputs from Reaper into any other DAW or Audio app that supports ASIO inputs.
    4. It is also possible to use two Reaper instances as the send and receive DAW's, which use ReRoute as the virtual audio device for this inter DAW audio bridging.
    5. The default max setting in my current Reaper version 6.47, is 256 inputs and outputs, and has been that way for a good while, I can't remember what previous max channels for ReRoute have been. So the new change simply bumps it up from 256 to 512.
    6. On Windows, there is an ASIO driver control panel, which you can access via the app which send audio into ReRoute, to adjust the number of channels in the virtual audio interface. Please see link to a screen shot of this ASIO driver control panel on Windows
    Hope you can add a correction, to your video upload, to avoid misleading so may others.

    I don't quite understand why anyone would want to do the example you gave of loopback potential.
    Isnt it the same as having the loop playing and just opening another track on the same project?
    Or just extending the loop and then hit record?
    Can someone explain further how this might be useful?

    • @TheREAPERBlog
      @TheREAPERBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      one can record continually while the other project can play, stop, or loop independently. you could record the sound of scrubbing the timeline, or have a tiny loop selection and slide audio around inside it for stutter glitch effects that wouldn't be possible to record in the same project

And currently whenever I sidechain an instrument I have to manually uncheck the send to parent checkbox and then add a stereo send just in case I later want to sidechain the group as well (I will).
