10:46 I think the bed is so high because next doors bed is under it to save space
Good content, but gen AI is theft - thieving from creatives not unlike yourself.
"What would my dream capsule look like?" *turns it into a hotel room*
Pretty much 😂
Looks like the premier inn hub hotels.
He turned the small pod into a normal sized room. Because at first I thought, why would you need miniature chair in there, you won't even be able to sit on it without hitting the ceiling and also hurting your back!
So... lemme get this right...
For £29 a night, you get a noisy, sweaty coffin that looks like it came from Wickes?
For £43 a night, you get sweaty shipping container with Blade Runner vibes?
For £112 a night, you get a train sleeper compartment for tall people with a crappy bed?
Yeah.... think I'll just take my chances with a Travelodge. Thanks for taking one for the team, Ed!
Travelodge can drop as low as £19 some days in some areas for a normal room. Sunday is usually the best day for it! Handy af if you need to "get a room" ;)
The Gatwick Central Travelodge which I stay at regularly for work is like £60 a night most nights lmao
@@wastelanderonePremier Inn at North Terminal provided you book well ahead is around £90 a night ( OBs rate varies)
They could have at least tried to decorate the cheap one, slap a bit of paint on so it's less like a plywood coffin.
I would rather sleep on the floor of the airport. Rather than the first one 😂
In fact all of them, I could deal with the last one if it was cheaper
The first one looked like a slumlord's idea of a capsule hotel
The purple of the gatewick just makes it feel like a dystopian Premier Inn, where they would have a robotic Lenny Henry behind the front desk
For the one in Gatwick, I think the bed is so high is because you got the "top bunk" so to speak, the room next to you will get the "bottom bunk".
Can you get the bottom bunk by choice? I would prefer to be closer to the ground because it's cooler since heat rises.
@@JustAnotherPerson4Uthanks for the lesson in thermodynamics
The first one was basically a dog kennel with a mattress.
A memory foam mattress though 😍
Don’t insult a dog kennel like that
Fair play, the first ad read I’ve sat through and not skipped forward 😂
GET IN
Same as
@@EdChapman23: You smashed it Ed, great format.
That wasn't a breakfast it was more like a kids pack lunch 😂
True....aka its naff
It's kind of funny how the simple addition of inexpensive things like different coloured lights and a fancy fan control immediately makes someone feel as if the accommodation is more luxurious!
But he was uncomfortably hot in the first pod, and still a bit warm in the second even with the ventilation on full, so the ventilation really was useful.
It's like sleeping in an MRI machine, but with higher amounts of radiation.
😅
That first one looks like a bloody dogs kennel been lobbed together with some cheap ass mdf... 😐😐😐😐
😂😂😂
They wouldn't allow dogs to stay in there!
@@EdChapman23 :')
@@EdChapman23 The first one was made out of PLYWOOD, not MDF. You kids don't seem to realise how expensive plywood is nowadays. But yeah it looked like shit lol.
£29 a night to sleep in a glorified coffin lol
Honestly, the cost of London hotels, that is still not bad lol.
Aye. I'd rather sleep in a tent.
At least you get some sort of sleep in a coffin
I thought id seen it all with the knife and fork for food but an APPLE 😂😂😂 great video again bud keep it up.
Some see and have also proposed the capsule hotel concept as a solution to the housing crisis because "they would be the future of rental housing" and "rents for smaller apartments would be more affordable" and "tenants currently want smaller apartments." However, I believe that living in rented capsule apartments is not healthy for people and mental health, because capsule hotels are not meant for permanent living, but for temporary overnight stays. And that's why I'm afraid of the plans to build rental apartments for the poor and students with a capsule hotel concept.
yes, are the mega rich queuing up for capsule apartments? no? then you know it's probably shit. you are right. it's just about profit.
Instead of copying capsule hotels, what we (as in countries like the UK, USA, Australia etc with housing problems) should be doing is copying those tiny apartments they have in Japan.
Having seen many TH-cam videos showing off such apartments I think they (if they did them properly) would be great for people who don't need a lot of space and don't own a lot of stuff.
@@jfwfreo If the building costs can be kept low. In Finland, we tried mini-apartments and built a few apartment buildings with 10 and 15 square meter apartments as a test. But the rents of these mini-apartments rised so high that no one rents them for 700-900 euros a month, when you can rent a 30-square-meter apartment for 500 euros. Even the marketing of mini-apartments as luxury didn't attract residents to move into them.
Sounds like some Tory nonsense to me
CLAUSTROPHOBIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched loads of videos of Japanese capsule hotels (and train sleeping compartments) a couple of years ago. (They're relaxing, don't judge me! 😂) And if I'd had to guess what a British version would be like, the first one you stayed at was definitely that!
Fr 😂
You should have gone to France got a tan , then held onto the underside of a truck back to England , the government would have give you a proper hotel room free 🤷♂️
First capsule was like a dog cage
You made the sponsorship actually engaging and funny and relevant to the video well done lol
I stayed at the Yotel in Heathrow a few years ago. If this one's anything like that one, the bed is that high because the stack these slightly higher up or lower down to maximise space. Someone will be sleeping in another bed just under yours. Their room will be at a lower level, so they're not sleeping on the floor or anything but it will make that room a bit more 'accessible' for non-youths.
You could sleep in a washing machine at a laundromat and be more comfortable. This is very funny. You have me hooked.
I dunno who is paying £100+ to stay in a coffin when they can just go to a hotel.
To be fair he didn't pay £100+ to stay in the coffin; third room doesn't compare to the first one. And airport hotels are very expensive so £112 is one of the cheapest rate. You pay for the convenience.
This is true, but Crawley is a very short train journey from Gatwick and trains run late. You can find relatively affordable hotels there - much less than the airport.
Last time I stayed at the Yotel it was only £59 ("proper" hotels being £150.) T'was ideal if you had an early flight. Wouldn't spend £112 on it though.
These are horrible. We shouldn't be considering coffins as the future of basic, affordable shelter. This isn't good for physical or mental health. It would be healthier to stay in a tent for any amount of time.
Yeah, the sci fi versions of these were imagined because of severely limited space of spaceships and such. We are currently living on a whole ass planet. There is more than enough room for people to have more than a couple square meters to themselves. The only limiting factor is the insanely inflated costs of property. And that’s an entirely invented problem. We could choose to arrange things so that isn’t an issue if we wanted to. And personally I think that’d be a better idea than us all being forced to sleep in coffins with RGB lights
I'd be interested in knowing the Carbon Dioxide levels in them, especially the first one.
Waking up in the middle of the night forgetting for a few seconds where you were - capsule accommodation, stuff of nightmares!
The first one literally did look like a coffin! Who eats an apple with a knife & fork😂😂😂 ed you legend!
How else would you eat an apple?
I believe Karl Pilkington eats Oranges 🍊 in the bath.... great minds
He's a trendsetter
Might be interesting to go back in the winter and see what the temperature is like then
you need to try the Premier inn Hub Hotels see what they are like
Ed just out here pissing people off cutting an apple with knife and fork 😂
There’s no chance you want to sleep in a capsule without some proper ventilation. Having at least minimal soundproofing instead of just a thin piece of wood.
The real question is if the capsule hotel is better than a hostel. Why choose a capsule over a normal hotel room for the same price? Maybe it makes more sense in a big expensive city though as you’re unlikely to find hotels at a low price.
They should have the best capsules for sleeper trains though.
For the price, I would pick the middle one if it had a better air conditioner. The airport one was definitely the nicest, especially with the private toilet & shower, but I'm not sure it's worth it unless you need to be at the airport for some reason. They missed a trick by not offering that freeze-dried astronaut ice cream though 😂
I’ve never slept in one and now don’t want to 😂
I stayed in a Yotel in Schiphol between flights. One of the best night's sleep I ever had. I had a bottom bunk though...
didn't even know we had this in the netherlands lol
haven't been to amsterdam in ages though
I had an anxiety attack just watching the first one. I am not mentally ready for a capsule hotel.
“The naughty chair”
Thanks for the laughs.
I love the whole capsule idea. They just need to get it right.
The warmth would put me off though.
Good vid and most random breakfast 🤣

5:14 Full of Gregg’s Sausage Rolls 😂
Capsule hotels are a good idea if they're actually cheap, but in practice all that going to happen is they're going to charge regular prices for a capsule pod and then raise the price for a proper hotel.
There is no way in hell, I'd stay in any of them. Props to you for doing it.
The Gatwick Central Travelodge which I stay at regularly for work is like £60 a night most nights lmao
A vision of a swan in a puddle saying ‘better get a Travelodge’ just popped into my mind while watching this. 😅
I stayed at a capsule hotel in Kyiv Ukraine. Great experience.
It looked a bit like the first one in this video (wooden) , but built a bit better.
No fan , but the temperature inside the whole building was perfect.
All in , it was $12 USD for the night
Would happily stay there again.
have you read the news?
I just couldn't myself :( im getting claustrophobic just by watching this.
Honestly, calling that first one in Hackney a coffin is really unfair.
Coffins have way higher build quality.
There’s one in Edinburgh as well the code co living
i really hope this isn’t an indication of the future. things are already cramped and low quality and overpriced enough as it is. we need REAL accommodations.
The last one didn't look too bad but wouldn't pay that price 😂
Jeez, that last one is insane. I stayed in a single hotel room with a TV and a private shower, sink, and toilet four minutes on a bus from Gatwick airport for £50 the night before a flight. It also had free breakfast, but I didn't get to eat it as my flight was too early.
I then stayed in a private room in capsule hostel in Malaga and I had loads of space for £20 a night. That hostel was so lovely.
There’s a capsule hotel in Edinburgh which is good, it’s called CoDe
I stayed in a capsule hostel in Edinburgh and thought it was great; it was very spacious and cost about £100 for 4 nights. I also sleep with ear plugs though
If I wasn't claustrophobic when I went in one of those, I would be when I came out!
iv stayed in a Capsule in london bridge st christopher's inns hostel, I was going to stay for the week but it was during summer and I just could not sleep it was far too hot in them boxs, and plus it was so noisy too! Had to book a hotel halfway and got some of my money back. Dont know why they charge 40 odd when you can just get a room for less.
I couldn't cope with no windows 😮
Absolutely loved this, and by coincidence I stayed in cabin no. 28 at Gatwick earlier this week but just on a minimum 4 hour layover. But I had a low bed. It was also bloody freezing in there. But fun! As for having a plunge pool in your dream cabin, LOL, you legend! ❤❤❤
it's a no from me......👎
First one was a coffin for living people😂
What the HELL are those prices? I thought the idea of having a room the size of a phone booth, was to save money. I've had all inclusive, 5 star resort rooms the size of a decent apartment, for those prices. AND with a sea view. AND in countries with decent weather.
Which countries
@@notwithoutpizza4702 Egypt, Thailand, Turkey. You'd probably get a really nice room in Vietnam for that price, too...hell most of SE Asia. But even a backpacker's hostel in London is cheaper than many of these, if all you want is a place to sleep. And those are a bit of a rip-off, too.
Actually I've got a fairly early flight at Gatwick in about a month. That room looks OK for a cheaper option for that area, no frills. No TV either though, sadly.
Mind you, now I've looked online it does say the standard rooms come with a smart TV.
There is a TV, not sure about it being a smart one though didn't try
Wait capsules are a thing in the UK
That breakfast isn't £7 worth, it like £3 at most, at least here in Leicester you can get so much better for less, like a falafel wrap for £4, that will fill you up all day.
Or get a large curry in one of the many pure vegetarian Indian restaurants here for £5
For breakfast? We don’t eat curry for breakfast bro
This was horrific, I'll have nightmares, now. The price of the Gatwick one is approaching a "normal" hotel. Glad to see you eating actual food.
That last breakfast was complete hokum.
Can literally get a full fry up and a cuppa for 6 pound where I am 😂😂🤦♀️
Claustrophobe's nightmare
This should be illegal ! The fire risk alone!!
BIG UP TOWER HAMLETS MY HOME 😭
No wonder they’re all in London, northerners wouldn’t put up with that shit 🤣😂
I'm guessing hotels in the north are affordable so there's no need for capsules
not too good if you have to get up in the night for a wee-I'm quite old-ha ha
Haha let's get you toilet trained Susan
"There's a skid mark in the toilet and it isn't even mine!" That had me proper cocking misen laughing mate. 😂
Odd question - what camera is that? (asking for a friend)
A canon something maybe?
They're an upgrade on a bed in a hostel dorm, I probably would stay in them on that basis
First one was a coffin 2nd seemed decent 3rd one probably was decent but is it a Capsule probably not
hey ed if you're ever flying out of gatwick (or just fancy trying it) check out bloc hotel! similar to a capsule but a little bigger with runway views
After seeing the first one .... I've got some MDF here and a couple of stools. All I need are some mattresses and I can build my own hotel! Have to make sure not to paint or decorate it to keep the same vibe though.
Just walked past a couple mattresses on my way back from the shop. Jobs a good un!!!
Who eats a apple with a knife and fork 🤣🤦
Fantastic video as always Ed.
You soon put the shower gel amd shampoo in their place!
I love your honesty, and the fact you are so humorous without even trying!
Thank you, and keep them coming x
There’s a capsule hotel in Glasgow as well
its a big no from me
Capsule hotel == flophouse
I'm having an anxiety attack just watching this
When you were reading the labels on them bottles you gave off A Broud in Japan vibes when he reads terrible Japanese English... 😆 😂
Awwww, that looks bloody awful!!!!!! 😮
😂
7.30am fir vacuuming is nothing, my neighbour has been known to vacuum at 5.00am 😵💫🥴 Fair play to you Ed for sticking those out, especially the first one, that would be my idea of a nightmare 😳 The last one wasn't too bad, at least you didn't have to share a loo!
Idea for a new video?..........most unlikely foods to eat with a knife and fork, mind you an apple will take some beating 😄
"You're just a soap" - truth! :D
Your comedic timing in this one was extra on point 😂 you're awesome
Gracias 😊
Arrrgghhhhh the first one was a sweaty, bacteria filled, transit crate!!! What if you were sleeping next to a slightly unhinged person!?? (I guess that could happen in a hotel?)
Would that MDF door save you!?😕No, no and three times NO!! ...
Fun way to die though 🥰
CoDe in Edinburgh is a capsule hotel??
perhaps, but they didn't list themselves on booking.com as a capsule hotel so I didn't see it, looks more of a hostel to me, but not far off
@@EdChapman23 I only mention it as I stayed a few years ago. I think its half hostel half pods so understandable it never appeared in your search. Great video nonetheless the less. Spent 6 weeks in Japan last yeat and the range of capsule hotels was crazy!
Hi Ed I have only just found this channel in last month. Absolutely loving it going through all your old stuff
£ coming your way 😉 I found this video very interesting. I did prefer the last one as it had the toilet and shower in the room I'm a very light sleeper so no windows is excellent. Anyway keep up the good work thanks dan👍
I nearly (but didn't) ended up staying at the Hackney capsule hotel one night when I thought I'd be waiting around for the first train. For £29 it seemed a better deal than waiting ages at the train station and getting no sleep. I guess they make more sense to compare to hostels than proper hotels but I don't think I'd be able to get much sleep in one
Great video Ed.
Ive been interested in these capsule hotels since i saw Clive James stay in one, when he visited Japan. 😊Kx
I would rather of slept in a shop doorway than the first one. 🤔 😂
You charmer you! .....The apple cutting was my fave scene 🔪🍎👌
I'd probably stay in a capsule hotel because finding a room with a single bed in a normal hotel is near impossible
Hold on a minute! ... We have "Capsule Hotels" in Britain?
I thought they were just a weird Japanese thing? 🤣
I couldn't sleep in a bloody cupboard! ... It's like a bloody mausoleum! 👎🤣
it blows my mind that £7 is considered a good deal for that measly amount of food. barely £1 worth of produce there 🤣
What happened if there’s a fire?
Death
Impossible to know for sure, but I think that drawer at the Gatwick place may have been a step up to the bed. Hope this helps!
I realised eventually 😅

I can’t sleep if it’s too hot. Capsule hotels in Japan look like little kennels, these seemed to be very different. But Japan is living in the year 3000. Stay Japan, Japan! My bed in my apartment is as high as the last one, I call it my monster truck bed. I like it though, it’s a good bend over and bury your face into the mattress while contemplating whether you’d like to keep working a your soul crushing job height.
Absolutely shit for the prices. Sod trying to 'solve' a housing crisis with them (as some people have mentioned. Living in a literal coffin and prices STILL too much!) FFS! LoL!
