These affordable scanners are getting more and more impressive daily! Super cool!
Yeah they are and I'm really happy about that. I have 2 more scanners in the shop to make videos about 😅👍
Love finally seeing review vids on this scanner, rolled the dice on it and am even more excited for it to come in! Great video cannot wait to try it out!!
Well that's good to hear and I'm happy that the video was helpful. Let me know how things go once you get yours. Also I'm going to be uploading the helmet scan from the scanner and I'll put up a link soon.
www.printables.com/model/502088-full-face-motorcycle-helmet-3d-scan
Sounds good, will do! Wow, that helmet scan came out awesome!
yeesh, I have a revopoint range and from the video it looks quite a bit better, the FPS runs about half the speed of my revopoint(12 or 16fps if I recall) but it seems to generate way more points in detail.
great video!
Thanks
Thank you for the video. I purchased one after watching your video as an upgrade to my very old Sense 3D. Thus far, my scans look like complete garbage at this time. For example, a test pill bottle (satin white plastic with label) was scanned using the turn-table and it came back with multiples/echos of the only half the bottle (as if my scanner freeze-framed on a bad LSD trip). I've never seen that before! I have only spent about an hour so I'm going to try dusting the target with your recommended Aesub spray, which I wish I purchased right away. I'm wondering how important, if at all, the ambient lighting in the room is. Anyway, I haven't given-up on it by any means but if you have any other advice I'll be watching out for your thoughts.
That's a bummer I just ordered one today and got it for 290$
what is the post processing software? can I use solidworks to figure out dimensions of the object? what is the maximum diameter of object that it can scan ?
Cool!
😊
on the shinny parts that would not work and you used the spray wouldn't it be better to use like a soft fog lens over the scanner lens to remove the glare? or use diffuser softbox light cover in front of the light it self
Sadly that's just not how this all works. The scanner uses IR light so if it hits a shiny surface it's not going to mess up the scan and it will not be able to see the object
Wow at this price, I’m gonna have to cop.
Let me know if you do and what you think of it as well. I also have a $20 off discount code to help save some more money RandyMay20
I am from india , I want to buy , is it possible
I’m really struggling using handheld do you have any tips??
Get good 👍 lol but yeah it takes practice for sure. What problems are you having
Is this a rebrand? I bought from 3D Maker the Creality CR1 at early bird prerelease time and it's the same.
It kind of is. They are the company that made all of Creality's 3D scanners.
Would you recommend this scanner for 1-5 meter woodcarvings?
it should be able to
What graphics cards have you guys used with this unit? I am looking at laptops for the shop and intend on using it with this unit. Almost all laptops are intel 620s. Will this work?
Software System Requirements:
Output format: OBJ/STL/ASC
Compatible system: Windows10/11 64bit, MacOS12/13
Compatible mobile: Android 10.0 or later, iOS 15.0 or later (Extended support)
Minimum computer requirements: Intel Core i5 8th, 16GB RAM, MX250 GPU with 2GB VRAM
Recommended computer requirements: Intel Core i7 8th, 16GB RAM, NVDIA1060 GPU with 4GB VRAM
@randymay there are also power settings that effect performance.
Not bad. You should do a comparison between this scanner and a smartphone.
From what I have seen, smartphone can't get anywhere near the detail of an actual scanner. 😁
@@randymay im hoping thats the case. I've read on some reddit threads that iphone lidar is just as good so im curious to see a test before i get one myself.
@@hobbyxplorer LiDAR is useless for scanning models , it’s only on the iPhone for AR apps.. The front facing
(True depth) camera is pretty good at scanning models,, you should try scandy pro..
I’m glad others are having better luck with their products. Turns out none of my 3 computers or 2 iPhones are powerful enough to make the Mole work. It acts like it’s working, starts scanning and even starts getting parts of the scanned item on the screen,… then it all falls apart and numerous screwed up “parts” pile on top of each other. Have tried many different methods on several computers and iPhones and still haven’t been able to get one successful scan of anything. It won’t even scan a simple #2 pencil. I guess I’m not smart enough despite having a BS in computer science and retired from years of work in 3D modeling and animation.
Yeah 3D scanning is it's own skill set and has a learning curve for sure. I'm using a cheap gaming laptop from 2018 in this video.
And definitely check out some more videos on TH-cam of people explaining exactly how they set up and use 3D scanners to get some pointers so you can get some better scan results.
It's also going to depend on what you are trying to scan, a #2 pencil wouldn't be a good item to scan anyways due to it being two symmetrical with no real features so the scanner will get lost trying to scan it.
I've had similar luck but the more time I spend with it the better it gets. If you can place items around your scan that are easily trackable and keep them in the viewing window it helps alignment. Also If you have something you can make marks on without damaging your item that helps to align the multiple scans manually if needed.
Is this the same scanner as creality cr scan 01?
It's very similar to that one.
Ordered mine & a new MacBook Pro to run the software 😊
Very nice and I'm just using an $800 gaming laptop from 2018 to run it so that MacBook would probably get you much faster possessing times.
@@randymay ha! Wish I’d of known that before purchasing the laptop 🤦🏼. Can’t wait to try the scanner. Thanks for the info 😊
@@MorganSpear hi how did it go? I'm really thinking of getting one myself too.
@@cnavamala It's really good, I'm impressed with the quality of the scans and the software is easy to use.
@@MorganSpear Cool, I'm debating getting this one or the Shining 3D Einstar for $1000. What have you scan so far?
Do you have a complete software tutorial?
I don't yet. I have a few more videos I need to get done for reviews and I was thinking about making a tutorial for this software. Let me know if I should
@@randymaydefinitely, I’m having issues scanning on a flat surface w/o turn table, I can’t seem to delete the surface below my parts…. In depth walkthrough would be great
Still think photogrammetry is cheaper and easier to use
Compared to the Mole my iPhone app makes finer meshes too.
From what I have seen photography can be hit and miss as well along with it taking a lot of computing power.
Do you have anything that I can see showing how the iphone is doing a better job? I just find it hard to believe from what I have seen from iphone scans.
How does this compare to the einstar shining 3D scanner?
Idk, I haven't had any hands on experience with it.
the $10 "sitewide" coupon code doesn't work on accessories, only other scanners.
Oh that is good to know, I will have to change the wording on that. 😁👍
Mine won’t connect to my iMac nothing but issues
I don't use mac's so sadly I'm not going to be any help. Have you contacted support?
Did you get that sorted out? I'm using a M1 MacBook Air and no issues with the latest JM Studio. I tried that and running it on my 12th gen i7 desktop and it seems to run just as well on the Macbook.
Did they send you this scanner for free?
Yep, that is normally how that works for reviews. That being said I am not required to make a good or bad video about it and I'm free to say what I want and what I really think about it.
This or einstar ?
I've never used one of the scanners from Einstar so I wouldn't be able to give you a recommendation between the two.
