Man thank you for making the video I must admit I had anxiety watching how fast you were driving and turning in the mountains! What a thrill it must be!
I have to be one of the few people that loves that steering wheel paddles. My 958.1 has them and while annoying at first, I’ve gotten totally accustomed to it by 5 years of ownership. Being able to up shift and downshift from either side of the wheel without moving my hand is so nice.
Very cool and usefull dude, thanks for the wheel tutorial. There are so many 981 whith those annoying wheels for sale that I passed on a lot of great deals. Now I know what I gonna do.
I had to replace the door handle on my car (Not a Porsche, but still german) and man its a struggle to put the door cover back so kudos to you for doing it twice.
Blown speakers are common with Porsches. My 718 and my 911 have had blown speakers but luckily a lot of them are the same speaker and typically cost like $85 bucks.
forgot to add sound deadening behind the speakers in the doors... makes the speakers sound like they are solid mouted and door will have a solid "THUNK" in doors (and panels) when you tap on them
I switched my 987.1 steering wheel to the same one. I had the horrible 'triangle' wheel in mine, and this is such a massive upgrade. Mine's a manual though, and I still have to figure out how to remove the PDK paddles.
Great to see you back doing videos. I also have a 09 Cayman PDK- base one, and have exactly the same issue you addressed with the two speakers completely shut. I also have been shopping around for a paddle shifter steering wheel although they are pretty expensive. Great skills doing the work yourself. Anyway, keep up with the great Cayman content.
I have a 2010 Cayman S with the 6 speed transmission and I couldn't stand the design of the steering wheel and changed to the Sport wheel, big improvement to the eye.
Beautiful Car! What is the name of the color? My son had on Boxster in Zanzibar Red- is that it? As a HUGE fan of your tech channel, glad I found your car channel!
i had the 997.2 with that shitty steering wheel, so unintuitive and badly designed, you've done well to find one for $600!! love the colour of your cayman too and the carplay mod looks great. I see you have the sport chrono already, so i think you already have sports exhaust? if so drill out the second set of cats, you'll still pass emissions tests and it sounds so much better plus youll get a couple extra hp
if you love music, and the customization of cars, doing up the stereo with quality aftermarket stuff is, well, well worth the investment, and pretty fun! Now that most head units are just a screen and run carplay etc, you dont have to deal with cheezy looking headunits, yeah.. big reccomend.
I am waiting for your video's of your trip buying a Mercedes in Athens and driving it to Berlin. Why didn't you sell it in Sindelfingen or Bremen? (location Mercedes factories). But seriously: I would have done it the other way: buying in Germany and selling in Athens. On German websites people say that the 190 and 200 are the models to drive a Mercedes cheaply. The 190 was the taxi in Western Europe for decades. Comfortable and almost indestructible. A nostalgic icon.
I love the look of the sports wheel, and kind of wish I had one. But I have a manual so no paddle shifters to worry about, and it's not on my priority list at the moment. Thankfully my speakers still work. Not looking forward to that replacement.
Question and from the video I don't hear it but do you get a squeak from the rear hatch it seams on bumps?? 987.2 base PDK owner in LA as well. Did the sport design upgrade but in sand beige for under $1000 was near impossible to find but I did and it was so worth it!
That is not the latest model with PDK. I have 4 Cayman S, one Cayman R and a 911S and I have the sport steering wheel that is wonderful. Of course it costs more! The only thing I really don’t like are the “high tech” cup holders! 😂 I don’t care too much of the sound system I only use it to learn to the news!
Love your channel my man. Couldnt agree more on the steering wheel missing paddles, i found myself nodding in pure agreement with every word. Also, laughed out loud at at the blown speaker test 😂. Keep up the good work, look forward to more content.
@@themiddlelanelm Porsches are some of the easiest cars to work on. They are extremely well-engineered and everything is pretty straight forward. I've done a ton of work to my 987 and found most of it to be really easy.
Luke, thumb up. Another solid video, It has been a while since you posted the last. Do you do tool reviews? We released a portable air pump. Can we invite you to do a review? If so, How can we connect with you?
I think his car is Ruby Red Metallic. I tried to get Nordic Gold in October of 2009 when I ordered my 2010 Cayman S and it was a no go at the time; dam it man.
Who ever designed the original wheel was probably one handed and he wanted people like him to be able to drive in manual mode though I wonder, why didn’t he make the right side the opposite of the left so that you can still drive in normal manual mode where pulling on the left down shifts and on the right or up shifts?
Hi Friend, Your vids are awesome! This is Alloyworks! We specialize in the production of automotive radiators, heat exchangers, and cooling system components. We're wondering if we could collaborate. Would you like to put our products to the test and review them on your channel?
So you went to all the trouble of replacing the steering wheel because you didn’t like the manual shifter buttons, then you replace the wheel and when you show us the test drive, you didn’t even use the new paddles? I feel a bit cheated. Did I miss something?
Well, up until now I only knew you from your Mac stuff. I'm sorry, but this is sad. Two problems: 1. A PDK? Really?!? No manual? You've got no reason to complain about shifting. Of course, I'm a lot older than you, and bemoaned the loss of downtube shifters on my Trek 1200 when I had to move to a 1.2. 2. If my left leg was amputated (or something), and I had to use a PDK instead of a manual, I absolutely disagree about the operation of the upshifts/downshifts. I would never want it to be left/right; I want it to be pull/push, using either hand, just as it is. I would want it to be pull for downshifts and push for upshifts, but I know I could get used to it either way. Btw: I owned a 986 and yes, it had a manual. Just to rub salt in your content, I just bought a Mac Pro 2013 three months ago (my first Mac; I've used Linux exclusively for >25 years) and couldn't be happier with it, other than having to use the Command key instead of Control, which I _am_ getting used to. I upgraded it to 64GB and an 8-core E5-2667 for ~$65, and it runs Sonoma with OCLP. While I still use Linux for servers and VMs, It's a great addition to my iPhone 11, Apple Watch 5, Beats Pros, and TV 4K 2021, and is now my main desktop machine. No, I don't have an iPad, and won't until I can code and manage files on it, which will probably be never, the way things are going with iPad"OS".
Man thank you for making the video I must admit I had anxiety watching how fast you were driving and turning in the mountains! What a thrill it must be!
Luke’s car vids have easily become my favorite content of his.
It's hard to beat the Boxster/Cayman two seaters. They hark back to the old days of Porsche. A lot of fun for the money.

Your car looks great. Full leather interior is nice. I have a 987.1 with full leather Cocoa interior. Steering wheel is a nice move.

Love the color of your car.

You can enable to sport and sport plus lights on the wheel with a code reader like the foxwell nt530
Worthy upgrades. Well done!
You and Marques Brownlee should have a competition to see who can drive fastest on public roads 🤪

ohh the apple guy has a car channel. cool
Welcome
I love doing projects like this that don't cost a lot (like the speakers) but are so worth it.

What is one of my favorite computer TH-camrs doing car videos with a Porsche? Luke I like this channel as well for ya!
I love the look of the sports wheel, and kind of wish I had one. But I have a manual so no paddle shifters to worry about, and it's not on my priority list at the moment. Thankfully my speakers still work. Not looking forward to that replacement.
I might be wrong, but I swear I’ve seen versions without the paddle shifters (And I think they can unscrew from the wheel as well)
Love love love this channel! Great content as always 🏁 and love the new wheel 👌🏽

Man, I am so close to pulling the trigger on a Cayman S (2011) This is making me want to do it lol
Update. Ive had a 987.2 Cayman S for 3 weeks. Best decision ever
You have to play Combustion by Meshuggah to test those speakers properly.

what head unit did you install with carplay?

Making a great case for it. I am thinking about replacing my BRZ. This one or 2008 GT500.
This channel still exists? Cool!
😅
The handful of jobs you’ve done on this car give me the impression that it’s not too bad to work on overall.
Yeah honestly I thought it would be worse given the mid-engine layout. I did have some more complex work done at shops though

@@themiddlelanelm When a front-engine BMW is much worse (ask me how I know) I say Porsche done a good thang.
They’re quite nice to workout once you get all the tools, but the tools part go with any European car.
Have the same problem with my speakers, not that I use the sound system much, the real music comes with the car 👍
Very nice👍
Wait, Luke Miani has a car channel? Subscribe immediately! He should promote this channel on his main channel more. Great content
Cool!
May I ask where you got your shirt? Lol. It’s nice. CheeRS

more vids please we really like this "by we i mean me" jk love the vids
isn’t this the Apple repair guy?
Luke Miani, yes
I enjoyed this even more than your Apple content also the easiest way to fix the gear change is to sell it and get a manual 😉
The guy that convinced me to buy used apple products is now going to convince me to get an old Porsche as well
Great update on the car 👍🏻
You could have got a standard (manual) transmission.
I want this car
Re: the shifter, I think the problem is it's not a manual as God intended. Otherwise, Corvette.
Paddle shifting...a real car?

I stand corrected. I missed the paddle change
Look no further than yourself 😉
Buy a manual?
