The images softness in Macro, noise in low light video amongst other things? Obviously if you spent your time doing other things besides spamming my comments you wouldn’t be so angry.

    • @Quoutub

      Apple Seed Actually nearly no smartphone camera has a true optical zoom. Even Apple's 2x camera doesn't have twice the focal length (6 mm and 4.25mm), which means that Apple's 2x camera captures less light in perfect light conditions than a true 2.0x optical zoom setting. So the important thing are the megapixels. The S20+ has a second wide angle main camera, which has 64 megapixels. Therefore, when you take a photo with the same field of view as the S10's 2x zoom, you still get ≈18.5 effective megapixels. At a full frame equivalent field of view of ≈ 63mm (approximately 2.45x zoom setting) you will still get 12.2 effective megapixels

    Great comparison where all sorts of real-life scenarios are compared accurately, also the software-upgrade-fixables one are mentioned along the way. I am planning to get either S10+ or S20+ after selling my s8 but I am holding a bit due to excessive heat dissipation resulting in throttling that I am experiencing from S20/S20+/S20U demo units that I have compared with S10+ and Note10+ at multiple stores (could be limited to Exynos 4G). Yes camera updates (more in low light) are there (the difference is S5 vs S6 sort of). But people currently having S10+ should consider if this upgrade is worthy of spending 999/899$. If I had S10+, I would have skipped this one to get a more matured product with this sensor.

    • @randomguy9118

      But why the photo zoom is sharper on s20 plus and video zoom is sharper on s10 plus?

    • @randomguy9118
      @randomguy9118 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@dimitrisharamis2316 because when you're taking a photo the phone can process it to make it look better. But when you're recording a video it takes 30 photos every second to created the video, and the phone can't process that many photos at the same time in one second. And therefore the optical zoom always wins when it comes to video.

    • @Quoutub
      @Quoutub 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oliver Grewin Not really true. Every smartphone camera is "optical". 2x optical zoom means that the focal length is twice as large. Neither the S20+ nor the S10+ have a focal length that is twice as large as the main camera's focal length (the S10+ main camera has approximately 4.3mm whereas the second camera has 6.0mm). The actual reason is that the S20+ 64 megapixel wide angle camera only has ≈8 effective megapixels at its "3x" field of view.

    • @Quoutub
      @Quoutub 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dimitris Haramis That's surely not the case, Oliver's answer is not the right one. It's a difference whether you compare the details per object or the details per display pixel. The 2x photo results of the S10+ will be sharper than the 3x photo results of the S20+ because the 64 megapixel wide angle camera only has ≈ 8 effective megapixels at 3x. But when you only compare objects, then that's the same thing as if you compare a 3x crop of the S10+ with the S20+ at 3x. A 3x crop of the S10+ only has ≈5 effective megapixels.
      In this video the reviewer made the mistake that he compared the S10+'s 2x field of view with the S20's 3x field of view. Whenever it's possible one should compare at the same field of view.

    4:33 No, the reason why S10+ produces sharper images is because of the variable aperture (f/1.5-2.4) which doesn't exist on S20.
    A smaller aperture (higher f-number) will result in greater front-to-back focus and images will look sharper than a larger aperture (smaller f-numbers) which will result softer and less sharp images. Also, it's the reason why you'll get less noise shooting low light with S10+ (since it can shoot with lower f-number).
    I assume the sharper macro images taken on the S10+ were shot at f/2.4 and the S20+ shot at f/1.8.
    This is not something that Samsung can fix via a software update, unless it's post-processing magic (increasing default sharpness levels).
    ps: Samsung already has a reputation of overprocessing images.

    You mentioned the softness issue on the newer phone in this review as you did in the Ultra video. It's obvious to me that this is a combination of the larger sensor and the wider aperture, which creates a shallower depth of field and general softness even within the focusing distance. The S10+ has variable aperture, which can stop down in daylight and produce a sharper image, not to mention also has a smaller sensor and thus shallower depth of field for the same field of view. As long as manufacturers keep putting large sensors with wide open apertures in phones, the images will keep getting softer. I personally don't mind that as it gives a less artificial, more filmic look to the image but to each his own.

    Still using my s5 active with its 16mp camera. I don't know if im too poor, frugal, or just have not been sold on any upgrades other than maybe the video image stabilization. But yes, still using my s5 active with zero issues.
    I did read that the new s20 uses some 1.8 size image sensor, compared to s10's 1.4. All its image flaws can be fixed in Post on the computer. 16mp vs 12mp for printing pictures out... I want to upgrade... but do I really need to? So I'm researching the s10+ and the basic s20. Still just not sure.

    Great job... originally had the s10 but sold it because fingerprint scanner was way too slow and finicky and bought a OnePlus 7 pro so I'd be interested to see a comparison between the
    s 20 + and the 7 pro.

    So the Main 12mp Camera is set on by default but when you switch to the 64mp mode it's actually using the Telephoto lens as the main lens?
    Additionally the night mode, does it use the actual 12mp main lens or is it pixel-binning with the 64mp telephoto?

    Just bought my s10+ as couldn't justify the extra cost for s20+. S10+ meets all my needs , one main reason was I dont need to save over 35000 photos on a s20+ .... why would you want to save that many on a smart phone? I love my photos but still think my Nikon P610 with 60x optical zoom is better... im happy with s10+, good price and good phone upgraded from s9+ and keeping both. S20+ looks as good but it's a bit half and half for photos, not sure about anything else, after all it's a phone and camera at the end of the day. With a bit of tweaking on a decent photoediting software both phones photos wouldn't look much different. Thanks for the video it was very informative.

    Background separation is mostly a horrible thing for family pics, unless you can adjust it same as in a good traditional set up (Granny wants to see all the memories as do I). For Instagram punch it has its place but a big negative if stuck with it elsewhere..................Sticking with my S10 and take another look next year

    In my honest opinion i think Samsung just laid an egg this year. The more review i see, the more half baked the product looks. How can they launch a product with so many camera softwares bugs?
    I will just wait for the note 20 to get out to get the s10+ for even cheaper

    The camera sensor is not bad on s10 plus, its just the stock camera app has bad post processing overall. Also s10 plus has blurry looking images from rear sensor when zoomed in and again it all comes down to image processing. Hopefully one ui 3 with improve the image processing and photo quality on s10 plus because the sensor itself is not bad at all!

    No update will fix the "sharpness", it's a property of the hardware, a consequence of the larger sensor paired with large aperture, get used to it because this tends to "worsen" with time and increasingly bigger sensors.
    The solution is also in hardware, if Samsung brings back the dual aperture, but of course, you'll have to buy another phone next year.

    NO, to be honest disappointed ..
    I expected next gen camera results and they are simply not there.
    A simple incremental upgrade is fine but NOT at this price !
    I dare to say that it doesn't over class the iPhone 11 Pro and after 6 months releasing a 2020 phone at this price (with just 128GB) is a shame.
    Passing Samsung again ...

    I'm a Samsung fan but they need to hire a new software team for their cameras to compete with pixel or the Iphone. They've got everything to beat Iphone in the video mode including display and internal hardware, they only need to improve their software IMO.

    What S20 should've been:
    - S10 chassis
    - 1080p/2k screen
    - 4000/4500 Mah battery
    - $900/$1000 base model
    - Optical fingerprint sensor
    - Relocate physical buttons
    - Remove headphone jack or install a high-quality DAC
    - Improve video quality on all three lenses up to 4k60.
    - 45W charging standard
    - Optional 5G config
    Doing so could've saved Samsung so much R&D while continuing what is already mature and successful.

    I have the s20 ultra for one week now - and I still have the s10+. There are several situations (food-photos and hdr-photos) were the s10+ is much much better then the s20 ultra. Perhaps there will be software-updates that bring improvement to the s20 ultra - but until now it is disappointing.

    The s20 has just come out and they have to improve the camera software. In a few months, the s20 will further distance itself from the s10 in terms of camera quality.
