I am a seasoned mechanic but I've never done a heated core on a Jeep even though I've had a few. Most of these videos are done by mentally challenged teachers but yours was a breeze. I appreciate you more than you know.
Would you actually hack up a customers car and then charge them for replacing the heater core?? I know that I would not. I hope you wouldn't either, a respectable mechanic doesn't do work like that.
@@juans9343how much does that hurt the car by cutting the brackets? Is that a very dangerous thing to do or it doesn't hurt the car that much it just something a mechanic wouldn't do
Pretty good video but instead of cutting those metal support brackets completely, a better way is to just drill out the weld, move those metal braces out of the way and then when you need to reattach them, just put a nut and bolt through the hole you drilled.
Actually did that on another one for a friend of mine. This was just the quickest way to do it. Thanks for the feedback though and thanks for watching!
Thank you for your video. I took it to one of the shops in my home town of South Lake Tahoe California and was stunned at how much I was quoted. 700 dollars is unbelievable. After watching your video it took me about 1 hour cause I am not a mechanic. Thank you
Thank you for showing us it's possible without taking the dash out. I'm keeping my jeep till I junk it so change it like you did!! Easy and fast and it's fixed!!!! 😆
Worked like a charm, had this job done in 30 mins after a couple years of "mysterious" on and off overheating issues from pulling air into the system. Used an oscillating multi-tool with a wood blade to cut the plastic veneer...cut like butter and was able to salvage the bracket for glove box mount
And to fix the whole “saggy compartment” issue...just run to Menards or Fleet Farm, buy a couple rails of metal, and just bolt it back to where it would’ve been.
Great tip! Can you just drill the spot weld anc pull the brace back instead of cutting it off? Then push it back and put a bolt on it? While kerping everything else you showed the same?
The world needs more videos like this. Quick ways to fix things if you don't care about it not being perfect when it's done. I am hoping this will work on my 2005 Liberty. Just cap the heater core hoses and get you a portable defroster from harbor freight for 20 bucks then set it on your dash and plug it in to your 12v cigarette port and your good...been doing that for years in my 2000 grand cherokee

I have a 2005. I took the dash out because the previous owner mangled the wiring harness installing some radio junk. I cut the bracket, but I have a welder. Eh. It's going to be a postal vehicle. Its gonna get trashed anyways
How much was your heater core? Do you have to purge the coolant system first? And will a leaking heater core cause you to have steam coming out of ac vents? Thanks for posting this video btw!
The heater core was about $60. Water vapor coming out of your vents while the AC is on is not due to the heater core. That's most likely due to high humidity and a high dew point. It is your heater core if you're smelling antifreeze and it steams up your windshield while the heater is on
@@sparky4357 Yup. I was smelling antifreeze and windows were fogging up. I just bypassed the heater core from the engine block. Don't need heat here in south florida anyways. Runs fine now until I order the heater core. Thanks for the video and info. Much appreciated.
What confuses me is that the hoses come through on the passenger side and it looks like the heater core is in the center. Are the hoses hiding under that black plastic casing?
Yes. If it is your heater core, simply follow the steps I describe to you in the video and I promise you can have it done in less than an hour with just a socket wrench and an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel.
Hi looking at doing this very soon. Did you have to remove the 2 lines in the firewall. Or drain any coolent out. Or did you just remove them from the heater core itself. Please get back to me thanks.
Did it and it worked not mechanical when it comes to cars but me and a friend did it in a hour and a half . We ended up cutting the bars. Thanks you guys are awesome. 08 cherokee laredo
For some reason, I personally don’t like the idea of butchering the bottom of your dashboard. No one can ever find enough time to do things right the first time, but always have enough time to do it right the 2nd time.
The hacks could save more time by opening the rear hatch, folding the rear seat down, attaching a chain to the dash and a tree then driving away quickly, in the end it will look about the same.
Ok Mr. Perfect, you wouldn't want to do it on a really nice vehicle, but my old 2005 Jeep's value or appearance is not going to be affected one penny by doing it this way. I'm glad I saw this video. I've been avoiding doing it but not anymore.
You left out the part where you had to cut a huge piece of the lower dash plastic to get to the core........ .......and it's glove compartment not glove department.
Duh! Obviously it's not a repair you would do on someone else's car! It's just a quick fix to get your own POS Jeep back on the road! Besides, if you're such a skilled mechanic, then why are you watching this video in the first place??
Those braces aren't structural. They are simply there for framing out the dash components... Safety structural supports and brackets aren't spot welded and aren't thin metal
I believe the 2010 jeep liberty is different. Take out the glove department and see if you can access the side panel of the console and get it pulled away far enough to see if the heater core is behind it. I believe it's in the same location, but takes a very different heater core with inlet and outlets that push through the firewall making it very difficult to replace
I am a seasoned mechanic but I've never done a heated core on a Jeep even though I've had a few. Most of these videos are done by mentally challenged teachers but yours was a breeze. I appreciate you more than you know.

It doesn't harm anything. They are just there to support the glovebox
