    • @RedCnMn
      @RedCnMn ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Obviously new prototypes won’t be released for the public. Imagine how many of them aren’t working properly or have unwanted malfunctions. The amount of returns would crazy high. The military is using insanely old technology. They have a stupidly high budget because as every governmental branch, if they don't use the whole budget, it gets reduced. (Awful incentives on the government, who would have guessed?) So they spend ludicrous amounts of money very inefficiently on private contractors that can develop a couple of cool technologies from time to time. Not that they really have to deliver, it just needs to look good on paper to justify the budget and all the money that was stolen from the tax payers. Under the hood, the military and government in general is a bunch of very old tech, very poorly optimized and synced with each other.

    I love the design of the Oura. It's the only type of wearable I'd be able to tolerate, especially while sleeping. However, the forced subscription model is an absolute deal breaker for me. I am truly infuriated and disgusted by this push toward ongoing subscription fees ro access your own damn data. It's happening across all industries, even in cars, so it's becoming more difficult to avoid. Not only do they extort this monthly fee out of you for access to your own data, but they also will sell your data to other their corporate partners for additional profit and you will have absolutely no control over that. Data mining is becoming the core business model in just about every industry and, in many cases, you are paying a fee for the privilege of being a product for them to sell. As much as I love its form factor, the Oura is off the table for me.

So no, I do have this data. From a €49 device. Granted, it's not a ring. But it is hardly there, doesn't weigh very much, lasts long and charges crazy fast. Better battery life than the ring, but of course there's more space in a band than in the ring for the battery. Very interesting though!

Say you sleep your 8 hrs full but still waking up tired, the data can show what might be happening in your REM sleep cycles which can give you clues on how to manage better prep habits before sleep and taking supplements for sleep to improve REM cycles. However, theyre is far more affordable alternatives with no subscription or data sharing or need to connect to wifi, and they come in the form of watches.

    Great for tracking sleep. Rem and overall sleep quality, heart rate and Oxygen. Those metrics will be accurate. The total gimmick is the readiness scoring , the time it takes you to fall asleep ( doesn't account for people on their phone in bed which means they aren't trying to sleep right away. Wind down time not accounted) . There can be no generic formula for readiness scoring that applies to every individual. Definitely not scientific!

    I got one on Monday and paid for everything upfront and now they want my CC # for my membership. I’ve tried endlessly to content them and the chat or ticket help is a joke. Now I remember why I didn’t didn’t replace it after the last one’s battery died after 2 years. Customer service is terrible!!!!!😡

    I like that A LOT actually. I however have the Galaxy Watch (the latest whatever it is) and I've become accustomed to wearing them during sleep. Usually give it charge refresh during my shower and bedtime snack or tea drinking and in the morning while I prep for work. It's pretty cool tracking all that data AND it also does a lot of what the ring does so it kinda becomesa challenge for improvement. If I didn't have the watch I'd definitely cop this ring.

    $300!?! You know, growing up I was told as technology got better, prices would go down on new electronics. All I am seeing is the price keeps going up and up. New tech is old tech and old tech is primal technology

    Oura Ring versus Apple Watch .. don’t know detail of data differences.. but adjustable strap makes it likely the watch sensors are always making good skin contact, whereas the fit of a ring varies with body temperature.. And you’d want to buy a ring that fits well from the off.. watch straps can be adjusted.
    Battery: Oura told me that the 15mAh (yes, very small) cannot be replaced. I believe them. Apple Watch batteries can be replaced - even a good amateur repairer can make this replacement. I don’t like totally non-replaceable lithium batteries in premium devices. I wonder whether @iFixit have looked at the Oura device..

    And let's keep in mind this technology is completely unstudied. Even if they have studied it, they're not going to release the results, especially if it doesn't favor them. There's been many studies on Bluetooth technology that has caused many issues for people especially tumors behind the ear. I can only imagine what wearing a ring on your finger all the time will cause.

  • @milenburushkin5964

    But does it come with a warning that prolonged usage will turn you into a ringwraith?!
    Jokes aside, I have a wristband that provides the same amount of data, cost less than $50, does not require a monthly subscription and the battery lasts two to three weeks instead of four days.

    I hope you can wear it not only on the index finger.
    Since a year and half I am wearing the Huawei Band 6 and I am happy with it even the sleep monitoring is maybe not the best but I am more interested in steps, heartbeat and SPO2 and the battery is about 2 weeks lasting even more if you are not Bluetooth connected 24/7. Eventually I wish I could find bracelet version of this ring cause I would like a non screen wearable.
