  • Changing the oil and telling the story about my 1997 Ford F250 truck. It has a 7.3 liter Powerstroke direct injection turbo charged diesel engine. Manual transmission and 4 wheel drive. This truck has been used as a log skidder, has done a lot of towing, at close to 300,000 miles, it runs as good as it did when it was new. It has been mostly retired to working here on the property. Today we are going to give it some attention and give it an oil change.

    Put the plug in the operators seat. Genius. I forgot to put the plug in… once; never again. I only ran the vehicle for 0.5 seconds. I was afraid I killed the engine. Everybody I asked about it just laughed and said put the oil in it, it’s fine. I wish I would have heard that advice sooner. Thanks. I’ll pass it on.

    I generally fill new oil filters before installing, unless it's mounted horizontally. 👍🍻

    Those 7.3's are great engines. When I change oil on those 7.3's I use a nail or punch and punch a hole in the bottom of the oil filter and drain the oil filter before removing it, it is alot less messy doing it that way. Just the way I do it.

      I do as well. Takes a bit more time, but I think it saves a mess which saves time to me

    Keep good service and repair records. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are the hallmarks of vehicle reliability and longevity. Thanks for your time making the video. American Iron all the way!

    Been driving Ford Fs my entire adult life. I’m 61 and on my 5th. Only the second new one too. Retired now, so I’m planning that my 2016 aluminum body F150 will last me 30 years. 8 years in and no issues. 22 to go. 🫰

      My third is a 2021 aluminum body. Not sure if it will last a quarter century like this one but I do like it a lot.

    A beautiful, basic truck. XLT - RATTLER - That's what we called them here. You can hear it at the 8:35 mark! - FYI - They Never made a 1998 F-250/350. 1999 was the intro to the new body style. AND, if my memory serves me, there wasn't an automatic ready for the rollout; 5 speed only. Someone here correct me if I am wrong. Here in Ct they would die for a rust free 97 p-stroke. I think the axles were 3:55 or 4:10? Standard or posi. tract. I remember the Ford oil filters were expensive; more money than the price of an entire do-it-yourself oil change for a gas motor, around $25.00.
    Give a good sprinkling cayenne pepper throughout the engine and interior. It (usually) helps rid mice.

      A low miles 1997 7.3 is a good find. It is said by many that regular oil changes is the key to longevity with those engines.

      @@WilsonForestLands Yah, but here in Ct, unfortunately, the trucks rust out before the engines goes.

    I think quite a bit of aging is like that ! Time management seems to get more difficult with time. The old 7.3 is a good old engine from before everyone had to have sooo much power ! Take Care

    '96 7.3 superduty here - in need of an oil change - 1st one since I got her, was going to have a shop do it first time to give it the once over as its' so dang loud, but yours sounds about like mine does - maybe they're just noisy? Love that truck though, 16gvwr(15,900?) flatbed dump

    I to have a 97 f250 with 7.3 in it. Best truck money can buy imo. Needs tires soon. What size tires are on your truck? Thanks!

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      265 75 R16 Goodyear Duratrac. This is either the second or third set I have had on this truck. I really like them. My new truck is about ready for new tires, I am planning on putting a set on there too.

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I paid around 23,000 for this one in 1999. They were over 30 K then new. for a new one now it’s probably in the 60-90K range, depending on the options.

      What about a used one like a 1990-2005 mod with some good miles on it. Good running condition. Not too rusty 😄.
      I found one like you have with pretty low mileage on it for around 22k. But that’s was the only one on the market here in Norway 😄 just one 😂 cool car tho 🙌

    Can’t blame the vermin for looking for a nice warm spot for setting up a little mousekeeping - heard if you keep the hood ajar may not stay. That’s probably opening a can of worms to all kinds of problems 🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Older 7.3 ford is the last good ford truck. Don't get a newer ford or any newer truck if you plan on using it like a man. The new trucks are made for the newer man. One that hauls a load of tampons' and it still dents the bed> a tailgate only good for doing makeup, can't take any weight or can't be welded on but it folds into a seat so you can sit and watch real men work wile putting on makeup. A tv screen that covers the front windshield for diving at 80mph while texting and watching the Kardashians, a hand cream dispenser to keep the hands soft for the husbands. And 19 air bags so the bird boned men of today don't shatter like glass when they hit the curb at starbucks at walking speed. Luv your channel a man >that is still a man. This is hard to find now. especially on youtube the sssss es are flying and the vegans of today can't even change a tire. If they cut there soft hands and see one drop of blood they might faint and get there yoga pants dirty. Just sad!! I want to time travel and go to a 1930's logging camp. Maybe bring some metros to watch the old timers chew them up and make them men again. I just want to fight an old time logger from back in the day in there loggers bar just to be humbled and buy them a beer after. They would mop the floor with me and I am a tuff cuss. Man it would be fun, Now put me in todays metro bar. I get in a fight a few die from falling down running away as there bones brake from gravity and a 1 foot drop >the cops are called i go to jail for giving someone a fat lip >later he dies from a swollen lip. Now i get life :( no fun I will stay in the woods maybe a grizzly will fight me. I all ready had a 6 foot blk bear give me a nice bear hug on the leg> tuff lil bear felt like a truck ran me over. Great stuff luv your no bs attitude we need more like you out there.
