That car seems like an amazingly good time. After watching your review and being in my 50s, maybe the Turbo S is still the best all around 911 dream machine.
@hockeymann +1.. Agreed.. Many of the Turbo models are waaay better suited to N. America say's this original 1998 Carrera S (993) owner..
As the 58 yr old owner of a Turbo, I’m biased, but agree that at least for my money, I want not only a great performing car, but as well one that is capable of being fun for longer road trips, and has some creature comforts and luxury. Of all the special edition cars thus far in the 992 gen, the Sport Classic would be my choice and the 991.2 Turbo S Exclusive Edition would beat even that.
@@dereksalley7231 I love that 991.2 exclusive edition. That thing has carbon everywhere, an amazing interior and even has a power bump.
The engine is from the 992 GT3RS not the Touring.
That Porsche has Carbon Ceramic brakes. They will squeal like that until they are warmed up. To get those brakes warm you need to do at least three hard brakes from moderate to higher speeds. They are primarily for lap racing and not really designed for standard street use.
Unless you intend to track it, CCB are superfluous.
They’re 40 pounds lighter than the steels, and given that that’s unsprung mass, it’s multiplicative in its effect on the power required to rotate the wheels from a stop, what the suspension and related parts have to deal with, it’s a big difference.
That is not always the case.
I have the PCCB's on my 718 GT4 and they do the exact opposite. They are quiet when cold but become squeaky as you get more and more heat into them.
What baffles me is that other MFG. can manage to produce a carbon ceramic braking system without the squeaks, so why can't Porsche?
“Boxster engine” 😂
This is not a Boulevard Driver - it's an enthusiast car.....for driving in the canyons - curves - serpentines in the summer in the Alps....sigh - but most of them will be never driven unfortunately.
Absolutely stunning 911 especially with that color. However, adding satin bronze wheels would definitely elevate the looks. Overall, an excellent car. Porsche never disappoints.
Powder blue or baby blue? I think not.
It has the gt3rs engine
Funboying out! Love me some Porsches! Thanks Roman!
As a michigander, I can relate to your comment about Michigan roads 🤣
Nice job Roman!)))
Engine is from GT3RS … fyi
Try the 992 Sport Classic for a smoother ride, comfy seats and low road noise!
Yeah, if you want to daily a sports car you want one that's not so track focused. Basically the most base 911 you can buy is probably the best daily.
Try a Bentley for even smoother, more comfy and less road noise
That is a cool car, but for $500k (current selling price) there are a lot of options.
@@jeffk464 ... +1.. Agreed.. The base/entry 911 w/ 3.0l turbo charged boxer 6cly is a bargin in terms of 911 models.. The only downside for some is a manual gearbox is not offered.. The superlative PDK is all she wrote....
2:50 😬😬😬 never touch the window to close the door
I agree. Why do people insist on closing doors with the window on frameless windows? Always use the door handle. A $300k car and by the time it gets back to the dealer the power windows won't work anymore.
That’s a huge no no ……and something I have to “gently” remind my passengers ! DON’TTOUCHTHAAAATWINDOW !!!!!!!
I probably sound like a maniac.
And……that’s probably because…..I AM !!
My car, my rules.
I really surprised, with Romans background, it would occur…! ?
The two best things about that porche is that its a manual transmission car and that glorious 4.0L flat six..... the car probably has ceramic brakes those are nown for squeeking!
Other than nostalgia, the manual transmission are inefficient. Like vinyl records, there is no longer any good reason to chose them.
@@krane15 .. Couldn't agree more.. The Porsche PDK 8sp in the 911 (992) models is superlative in every metric..
@@krane15 Maybe true, but def. more enjoyment driving experience, IMO.
The Porsche 911 S/T everyman review. Nice job Roman!
How much better is it over a 992 GT3 Touring manual with an aftermarket exhaust?
Go watch The Smoking Tire ...they compare both cars*
One of my favorites
Wonderful review Roman! More proof that you have one of the best jobs in the world. I'm sure it really is the best sports car out there until Porsche build the next one. But I'd be happy with this one. 🙂
No offense, but think it’s a stretch to think that folks who make videos mostly about driving trucks will understand and appreciate why the S/T is such a special car. I wouldn’t be able to understand why a truck is great or not
Roman says; Funny when some starts with “No Offense” you know the rest of the sentence it going to be very offensive🤔
@@TFLnow haha it's almost like some people have to live up to that P-car snobbery that Porsche is well known for.
@@ALMX5DP. When you don’t know that Porsche brakes squeal and are too big to comfortably fit the carbon bucket seats, you are probably outside of your wheelhouse of knowledge to make a reasonable conclusion. Again no disrespect but is obvious this is outside his usual area of expertise
@@Porsche311 reasonable conclusion as to what? There is no objectively right or wrong answer, and by no means does someone have to be an expert on a brand or type of vehicle to provide a driving review especially when personal preference and taste play such a big part of that. PCCBs and fixed back seats would definitely be a detractor for me if the philosophy of this car is to be a well rounded sports car for public streets. Fantastic for the track though, or even an occasional backroad jaunt. I think the eventual conclusion here was reasonable within the context of the question.
@@ALMX5DP .. +1.. Agreed,, Says this original 1998 Carrera S (993) owner..
These will sit in collections and trade for 750k. See the Sport Classic.
I’m a Porsche fan, but this is just another high priced, limited edition car that needs to be put on the track where all its performance can be experienced. Nice review though.
Very objective and logical review and who can blame Porsche they are in it to make money and why not keep making the greatest of all till the next one is made😊. 👌🏿
Agree that this is probably the best sports car, but on second thought the best 911 sports car is the one in my garage that is paid for and cost 1/3 the price:)
And they learned from Honda:
And added a DoubleWishbone 😅front suspension.
Thank you Honda THE engineers 🎉 Best Engine’s/ManualTransmission’s/SH-AWD/Suspension Geometry…live & learn industry 🙏🏻✔️🙏🏻✔️
In addition to a proper 6-speed manual, the proper external door handles! If these handles are good enough for their top of the line model, why not their "regular" 992 models?
It’s only because of the carbon fiber doors - I don’t know the reason but they can’t use the flush handles on the CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) doors.
@@TheGreekCarGeek Good!
PCCB’s squeal when hey are cold totally normal.
If I ever get the opportunity...I would definitely drive this car cross-country...thats my dream..&...this car would be my daily driver...I dont know how long I have left to live on this earth...cant waste time 😑 😒!!
I was born when no car, at least in Italy, had an automatic gearbox. I drove almost only car with manual transmission. Now that I have an age, I'm only interested in automatic cars and Porsche has a great PDK; I wouldn't buy a Porsche with a manual gearbox. Thanks for the video, I always loved Porsches, and they are my favorite cars, since I was a little kid.
I'm still intrigued by the half cage back there. I thought a bit ago Porsche did not bring this carbon fiber rollbar to the US due to some safety or legality issues. Is this just a press vehicle or will actual US customers get this?
No, you can't get the cage in the U.S. sadly
@@bumpinjeep boo that’s a bummer.
The test Press 911 ST is a pre-production car.. Nothing formal about it.. Hence the carbon fiber roll bar; Not available in the US market..
❤seeing you happy! I'm not the biggest Porsche fanatic, only Porsche I ever "Loved" was my Blackberry PD LMFAO!! But I do know what it's like to drive in that Canyon in my favorite cars!! In my Home in my heart! As for sound Idk, we have one of my Biggest & if "you" were a kid in the 80s THE BIGGEST IT CARS TO OWN! The Lamborghini Countach. Is it comfortable? HELL NO!! Just to back up you have to the door & sit on its frame to back out! When driving you Better have STRONG Arms bc the Shift alone coupled with Zero steering power assist makes the car a REAL WORKOUT!! & we recently moved ours to Miami from Shelter island NY, bc duh weather. But A/C that's a JOKE 2 teeny Tiny vents that hit your knee caps Oy BUT!! THE SOUND!!! Ooooh Weee! Bc why? The massive V12 is DIRECTLY Behind you!! With its massive Quad exhaust and no need for its alpine deck to ever be turned on, bc the sound of the engine & exhaust while shifting is pure Heaven!! Inspite of all its imperfections, due to its most ICONIC BEAUTIFUL Design! - Though I will agree w/you on HATING Ceramic brakes! So why I choose IF I Can to have regular slotted/drilled braked versus ceramic brakes. Bc ALL Ceramics squeal! Like they ALL DO! And it's annoying AF! I'm not dropping xyz money on a car to sound like my car is broken, sure it's fine on a track at 200+mph but daily drive Oh hell no 😂
For a 911 that you intend to actually drive it is the Turbo (or Turbo S) all the way! Perfect do it all super car.
Its always a tough call to say which new car is the best sports car. I kind of like the Cayman GTS 4.0 right now though. The Lotus Emira might be my second favorite.
No its not. You just say it, and that makes it so. In your mind. See how it works now?
@jeffk ...+1.. Agreed, the current Cayman GTS 4.0l is top shelf or the Cayman GT4 RS if ya have the budget to burn.. Great dynamics the Cayman.. Me? An original 1998 Carrera S (993) owner.. The Cayman chassis is that good.. Screw the now huge, fat Grand Tourer 911's...
An amazing car, of course. But, let’s be serious, most of these will go to collectors and never get driven anywhere anyway. They have a Dakar at the local and that would be an amazing car here in the Wasatch, but not for the money. Anyone really wonder why they sell more Macans than anything else? I don’t.
This car isn't really meant to be the best all around street going 911. It doesn't have much in the way of concessions to comfort. It's meant to maximize engagement - sound, road feel, engine response. It should be sharp and immediate and full of feel. The consequence is that it will be less enjoyable to drive in traffic and at low speeds, road trips or when running errands. This is not the tool for that job. This is a backroads and track weapon at the expense of daily driving comfort. My only beef about it are the limited numbers and BS games that dealers play in allocation and markups - it makes the car significantly less interesting to me.
300 grand but what does the maintenance bills look like. not sure I would get it if I had the money.
I think Porsche like Corvette could be worse. They aren't like owning a Ferrari or Lambo as far as maintenance bills.
If you had the money you wouldn't worry about how much any of that costs. People who buy 300k cars don't just have 500k-1m, people who buy these new have 10s of millions.
It’s all relative. Who buys an S/T and commutes with it or travels long distances? No one! This is the 911 pinnacle, until the next best limited 911😂🤪. Porsche 911 FTW!
I've never understood why any car manufacturer would think that a 6 speed manual transmission is not enough for any car, such that they developed a 7 speed manual for that car (not counting the crawler gear on the new Bronco, BTW). Some C7 Corvettes (i think the Z06) had that as well. You're definitely not going to use all 7 gears on the highway or the track.
Semi trucks can have up to 18 gears
It's about the duality. Have a couple of overdrive/highway gears, while keeping the first handful tightly spaced for driver engagement and always in the RPM range you want.
One would expect a car tester to know that ceramic brake discs squeal. 😉
Roman says TFL has a brand new 911 with normal friction brakes and they squeal just as much….but he says he wouldn’t expect you to know that😉
@@TFLnow .. You're driving the neu 911 (992) like a pussy.. Use the brakes a bit firmer and the squeal will subside.. Ask me how I know.. The PCNA zone Rep told me so .... Great advice..
@@TFLnowis this romans school of arrogancy?
It’s just a marketing tool for Porsche. It’s same same principle - put the box of chocolates in front of you and take it away!
Porsche can keep it. After having 49 Porsches they are all the same. Other brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini and more fun to be honest
I know you bought a car. Is this it?
Yes. But not for that price 😂
Macan might be a better fit…
And Porsche will sell everything single one to non complainers.
This is how much all the gt cars should have been so the money for R&D stayed with Porsche and their gt program. Instead Porsche let their dealers mark up and take money for years that went to dealership pockets instead of Porsches GT car program
Not impressed at all with this car at the price tag of 300k.
According to Musk, the rear engine designed is inherently unstable.
The greatest road going 911 will always be the Turbo S …..
Depends on what kinds of roads you typically/like to drive on.
The greatest road going 911 will always be the one you have….!!!
Engine out of the RS. smh Next video…
I think ill go buy the z06 that my dealer has been wanting me to buy for 2 months at 156k with every option.
What does this have to do with an S/T … this car was never an option for u
@@brianhimmelman420lol i own a raptor R, an audi r8 and a 148k dollar jeep 392. I put the price on the jeep because i put about 51k into the thing. A Porsche is the least of my needs or wants. I was simply stating for 300k and its limited its not worth a penny when i can get a car that rivals a Ferrari 5.2L soo. Unlike you calling people poor because thats what you are i could care less bye Felicia
@@urreckoningx5702no one called u poor just that these allocation are gone all 1963 of them … what cars u own or would buy is irrelevant … I am in same boat but no one cares about what I would a or could a bought or current own or costs … this car is not an option
Best or not its overpriced
300k? Na, C8 ZO6 for less than half the price...
...if you can find one at all, let alone at half the price of the 911 MSRP. Why not consider a C7 ZR1 instead?
This car is an investment, so is the z06, but this car will always be worth more than the z06
Because power numbers are everything. 😒
The manual transmission … not available on any C8
Good logic … keep going a Challenger SRT is half again
It needs a Governor ! Say Max Speeds on Public Roads of 80mph !

I'd rather have a 964 Twin Turbo. Less electricics more reliability 🏁
@Zzus.. Might you mean the 993 twin turbo? (1996 thru 1998) .. The series 964 turbos were single turbo arrangements..
Naw, c8 vette is greatest sport car.
