This is really cool to watch. I just recently finished restoring my 1945 Delta bandsaw. I wish mine had to Art Deco base, but nonetheless I’m happy with it. It looks great man!
Maybe it’s just the electrician in me talking but, the only thing I would do differently is that I would add a modern switch with an emergency stop function. I would install a modern switch with an E-Stop function on any piece of older woodworking or metalworking machinery I plan on restoring and using. Safety is more important than aesthetics.
nice. they are the best looking saws. I am lucky enough to have 2 working from that era. only one has that base. Itura designs in Jacksonville can help on those parts.
I will let you know if I find a cast iron belt guard. For somereason, I see more cast iron belt guards on the open stand bases over the cast iron bases like what you have. Keep a eye out for them.
Is the riser block for your Delta or another brand?. Mine is a 1948 (I believe) and is in excellent condition and very original. I would just like to add resaw capability to an otherwise great machine.
Hey great vid. I'm restoring a General 290 Bandsaw (made in Canada in the 60s) that is very similar to this Delta. I'm stuck trying to remove the lower drive shaft to replace the bearings. It goes out through the gearbox side but I'm wary about hitting it too hard without a little more certainty that this is the way to do it. Your vid missed the part when you removed it - how did you do it?
There's a collar with a set screw inside the casting that you have to loosen to remove the shaft. The shaft does take quite a bit of hammering to overcome the interference fit on the bearings.
Good job but I would raise the Delta-Milwaukee wood band saw and keep the wood-metal saw as it was. Even though it was made as wood-metal use, it would be better to keep the metal saw as is and dedicate it as a metal saw.
I got one today for free, gear box excetera. The stand ain't original though. I'm not sure about the year, serial number is 76-3604. Do you know how to figure? Another clue is " lbs 26 " stamped in cast arm.

I left a bid at auction because I couldn't be on the pc while the auction was live for 75 bucks, I really didn't think i was going to win but I did crazy thing is they must of listed the machine wrong, they had it as a ROCKWELL 8-300 VERTICAL BANDSAW, S/N EN-9823, so I spent an hour just looking for that model that does apparently not exist, so I am assuming its a model 28-300, I am just trying to figure out if I can get the unit with out a trailer (it's in chicago, and dragging a trailer through chicago is a nightmare) I have about six foot length and 32" height to play with if I can lay it down in the tahoe, get it home and do some restorations.
You can lay the on their back in a vehicle. I have hauled many a saw of this style in a hatchback. They are held onto the base by 4 bolts so you can bring them home in 2 pieces
@@restoration-projects I didn't need to take it apart but I had thought about that before picking it up, took the tools with me got their and loaded it into the tahoe laying down by myself, it was heavy and quite tricky as I had like a 15 inch drop from the loading dock, it is still in my tahoe because of being way way busy and today rain, looks like a very neat model, I like the vintage things more than modern, this will be number 3 vintage bandsaw the other two are Johnson horizontals one a model B one a K i think, fun city

They are amazing machines for their age. Keep looking and you will eventually find one. The are pretty rare but they do pop up from time to time

1942? Bro lucky you! WWII ERA saw! I have the same era bandsaw and the table saw so far!
Beauty work bud .. I'm restoring an 890 and having a hard time getting the drive-wheel off the shaft .. any tricks you wouldn't mind sharing?
lots of penetrating oil, a little bit of heat and a bearing puller has been my go to for these, good luck

This was the first one that I have seen, I like that they don't dent like the stamped steel ones.

Paint stripper is a great way to take car of led paint too. Doesn’t become airborn
