That's something impressive to see; extremely long train loaded with military vehicles sat in the middle of the road stretching through Downtown. Loved seeing the drive-around.

Nice video, god how I miss standard cab locomotives as a standard. Oh well life moves on.
Based on the date this was likely equipment from 2nd Brigade Combat Team; 82nd Airborne Division heading to Joint Readiness Training Center - Training Rotation 15-06 @ Fort Polk, LA.

Every Military Base, and several towns that have NG and Reserve units in them, have rail-heads where such equipment can be off loaded and on loaded as part of unit movement for training or deployment. Looks to be a Brigade size unit heading out for training. If these vehicle were going to auction, they wouldn't of had the connex boxes on them or all those trailers.

In the Army we called it rail head day and no one wanted to be there because the soldier not rail road had to load equipment and there was no room for error. Drive on.

Fitsum Berhe , big diesel engines produce electricity, mwhich then power the ELECTRIC MOTORS, thus, DIESEL ELECTRICS.
THESE monzter diesel, electric engines cannot have monster cylinders, and mosnter clutch disks to power the trai s, by sheer size alone. Thus, cthe choice is hsve diesel engines, coupled to powerful electric motors, to do,the job. AM I CORRECT??

Ralph James people in this town are offended when they here others refer to Fayetteville as fayettenam. They have been trying to shake that term and people such as yourself keep bringing it back. I have lived here for over 25 years and I don’t see anything like that from what people who have lived here longer than I have.

That was the nickname when I was stationed at Fort Bragg from 72-74 and 75-79. That was because of the number of Vietnamese owned and operated strip clubs and pawn shops. The city took action to clean up the city which resulted in getting rid of those businesses and the crime that existed because of it.

Nothing new for sure. In the early 80s when I was a little kid I lived on Honeycutt Road near where it connects to Longstreet. There's some tracks just before Longstreet. I used to play in the woods and watch lots and lots of flat cars with the older Bradley tanks on them. Often times the cars would be left parked along the tracks concealed in the woods with tanks, APCs, Deuce and halfs, and other equipment. Some of the other comments here are just friggin stupid. "Where do you think they're going with all those vehicles!? This is not right!" Geez, idiots. It's just typical Fort Bragg stuff doing Fort Bragg things. Lived in that crap city and Spring Lake area most of my younger life. Moved away 15yrs ago and happy I left.

I grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana which is on the Southern Pacific main transcontinental route from the Atlantic Coast of Florida to Los Angeles. Military equipment, including HUGE troop and/or equipment trains were something you could expect to see at least a few times a year, not just in and out of Fort Polk but also from one side of the country to the other. One of the things that these units practice is getting loaded on trains, being transported to a distant location, unloading, and then getting into simulated combat. That is how they iron out the kinks in their movement techniques and plans.

due to the fact very few of the australian military bases have little to no infrastructure for rail where they might of been 20-30 years ago
it is cheaper to roadtrain or heavyhaul or under own steam.. to nearest freight terminal..
I think thevonly 2 in WA that still haave active rail oi lleuwin and pearce afb..
whilst we may specialize in SF and logistics we no longer have the active rail structure we once did due to bean counters..
