I have huge respect for people going out there, with the courage to make a living out of their own art. They should get to pick their price. But I feel like every bit of gear is actually different. Expensive gel tips Manchurians feel great, but they just get outperformed by cheap synthetics. I shave every morning and my hand just automatically reaches for those brushes that can basically produce double the lather with half the soap and half the time. Luxury should come after sheer performance for me.
In regards to soap, I still use Proraso some times and never get a bad shave from it (sure, I need a balm after) but here in Italy proraso is 2 euro for the puck. What the new artisanal soaps taught me, is that before this “blooming” period we were paying a lot for some soap brands that claimed to be luxury but in fact the only luxurious bit was the price, especially some English creams. They also taught me that some of what we had was great already, especially MWF. Performance in razors is a bit of a strange topic for me, there is stuff like the Lupo now that sells ultra cheap and just performs as good as anything.

Some people just need to be grown up and tolerant enough to be able to not only accept that others have differing opinions but also to be able to accept that although you may not be able to understand their opinions, unless they are hateful, those opinions are of equal value to their own in the greater scheme of things.

Cody has never let me down. He’s making some of the best scents in the game. Never tried thè noir et vanille but I just picked it up since it’s back in stock, I can’t wait! Have all their other scents and always miss out on noir et vanille so I’m excited. Great shave man and good conversation

I have a Sprecher and I have a GD I modified to a style & functional purpose that I really like. Both offer me great joy when used. I have Talbots and A&E soaps that smell and perform like few others but I mix scents using less quality soaps with a quality unscented soap base and find them to be just as good and cost much less. Bottom line: I find value in many different forms.

Nice shave, Jack! This Noble Otter Rawr sounds like an amazing scent and the v3 soap base looks to be easy to work with.
I use all kinds of shave loot, from luxury to budget. I really enjoy the variety. Every single aspect of the shave offers something a little different. To each his own!
    Cheers! -Rob

I really appreciate the finer things in life, not just with shaving gear. I am not real into automobiles, for example, so I don't spend the money that some may and refocus it on my other hobbies... shaving, A/V gear, etc.
I want to use the best that I can get by hands on. For shaving, there is very little that's out of my disposable income, but I get bogged down by sheer volume of gear. I need to be able to draw a reasonable line because there's so many choices for top shelf products.

It’s s true statement in life that we all like different things. It’s just people’s ability to accept this simple fact without feeling like they have to crap on you for it. Probably because they want to feel superior in some small way. I’m sure we’ve all had this.

Same comment I left over on his video: It’s just like cars. Will a Honda Civic get your from point a to point b the same as a Lamborghini? Yes it will. Will it be more enjoyable in a Lamborghini. Fuck yeah it would be. As long as that person likes the Lamborghini then it’ll give a different experience than the civic would. It’s way more money but it still drives on the road and gets you to work or home.
    Shaving gear is the same.
Some enjoy the expensive detail oriented items. And the work that goes into it and appreciate that.

Great shave Jack! I tend to go for my higher priced items more frequently too, I do enjoy the more luxurious experience. That being said, I’m pretty frugal too so my more expensive items are still pretty affordable for any budget, yet high quality. Have a great week.

I like all shaving perspectives even if I do not agree with them. That's what makes shaving videos so fun. I will not pay $200+ for a DE razor or $100+ for a brush anymore but that's me. I did buy some expensive gear when I started wetshaving 8 years ago, but realized I get great shaves from far less expensive gear, but I love watching you and Chief using this really expensive gadgets. I have a Wolman, but I get as good of a shave with a Karve, Rockwell 6S or a Razorock Game changer and you can get all 3 for less than the cost of a Wolman, Paradigm, or Carbon Razor. Still my mindset is, if you have the money to buy this expensive gadgets go for it! We will enjoy watching you and Chief using them and enjoying them. And also for me, different perspectives are needed in the wetshaving community. It makes it fun!

Great video Jack! I can personally get as good of a shave with an $8 soap as I get from a $50 soap, and being a student, I don't really chase new releases.

How's Portland treating you? Have you ventured across the bridge to Vancouver yet? When Covid wasn't a thing there were so many things to do and see in that part of the PNW.

I think you’ve covered the topic very eloquently. I missed out on Rawr when it first came to the UK so waiting for the restock, think it sounds great and I love the story behind it (plus actually like the label) and haven’t been able to try Noble Otter yet - thanks for the video

That trash service thing sounds like absolute insanity. That said, it doesn’t surprise me given what we often hear about Portland:) It appears to be a colorful and interesting place. I’m sure you’ll have more stories to tell soon:)

Hey guys... each video for the last few months sound like a broken record. From both of you and the chief. Seems to me you three sound like the instigators of why this keeps coming up.. as a fan of all wish you would give it a rest and find something new to talk about. The point is so silly that I sincerely don’t understand why you keep perpetuating it.. I would hope that you would figure out your audience isn’t so stupid they can’t figure the value out for themselves. Not sure how you three managed to make this into a class thing, I never saw it that way watching you independently. Just fellas enjoying the art of traditional shaving. Sharing the things they loved and trying new things along the way to give feedback to viewers who may have not known about it previously. Honestly, if this continues I will just have great shaves with my expensive and not so expensive shave wares and save myself the BS.. I’d really rather create my own great shaves off camera in my bathroom and not be interested in your content going further. With all respect, sincerely.

@@galenhuff8267 We are enjoying our shaves sir. We're also sharing our thoughts on many things related to the hobbyist aspect of things. You make a fair point though, we've discussed it pretty thoroughly at this point. When someone gives constructive criticism I like to consider it. I can't say I'll never cover the subject again, but you're right, the horse is dead and his been beaten thoroughly at this point. That said, I already made a video where I poke a little fun of the Chief and Jack that airs tomorrow. I hope you'll understand that it's all in good fun and isn't meant to perpetuate and sort of beef.

Thanks Jack great shave, products and video very informative. I watch The Chiefs videos always and like I said in my comment there if people can afford luxury products then awesome. That is their choice really. Do I want luxury products yes but I am financially limited. Each to their own as long as it makes them happy it is none of anyone else's business. have a great week Jack :)

Good shave Jack. That lather looked luxurious. I am curious if you have used Barrister & Mann Sunny Lane and/or Wholly Kaw Fougere Mania? If so, how does the Rawr scent compare to those two? I think the elephant in the room regarding the luxury items discussion is the amount of disposable income someone has and their personal priorities of how they want to spend their money. It is indeed subjective. I think the majority of the WS content creators do a good job of highlighting great performing hardware and software at a wide range of price points. You will still find some gear and soap snobs that look down on others, but I see that more on forums than on YT.

    Great discussion and great shave.
If I have the disposable income to purchase a piece of gear that won’t give me buyers remorse upon receipt - now that gives lasting joy.
Your “Annoying Thor’s Hammer Handle” comment and your battles with the green weenie trash disposal rules had me cracking up. 😂

In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia. It saves me time and Money. Wheelchair Larry Happy New Year. Your Mileage may vary?
