It is just so great to see you back at it, Andy 👏👏. Burr grinders are really handy tools for sculpting fiberglass and I’ve found that they make great routers with the right fixtures. Their long snout lets you reach places that a trim router can’t.
Thanks Andy. Nice to see you’re well enough to be doing actual boat projects again. We may have to talk about some Alexseal for my boat in the near future. Thanks again!
Andy.. been watching your videos for years. I brought that sander last year and use it in almost every project that requires sanding. Totally agree with you!!
Hey Andy. Very cool to have a post from you! Screw the screws! Nice to see that Makita sander that I bought immediately on your recommendation. (Three years ago?) Pricey and only an "occasional' need for me but I still have it. Yep, sitting right there. Been subscribed all along. And so.... Thanks so much for this. 〰✨🌿👍🌿✨〰 New Hampshire
Great vide, looking forward (not really, but) to getting my boat sanded down and gel coated this spring. I will probably bing every one of your videos beforehand.
It's always a great pleasure to see an expert doing his job. By the way, that Festtool is a spaceship. I paused the video to see if I could see any dust and... nothing. Zero.WOW!
Andy, you are a master magician when it comes to glass work. Maybe magician isn't the right word. Perhaps. Michael Angelo is the name I am looking for. You never cease to amaze me with you work.....
What would you suggest using to remove epoxy type paints from a fiberglass boat. I race model boats, and I have one that not only needs to repair to it, but it needs some other repairs to it as well.
You can feel it you'll see it when it's painted man looks like you did good work I've got a question for you though which total boat product would you use on a marine plywood swim platform
@@boatworkstoday thank you! Ihave some body work on my airboat to do this spring and it will involve some totalfair. It sucks when you find some concrete protruding next to the ramp first outing after repainting the hull. I s would love to see any tips on feathering a repair into an existing paint job.
Is that a recent or older batch of Total Fair? I received a batch a few months back that used a new formula that was stated to address sagging but I found it to not spread as great. Part B was formulated thicker than part A and resulted in pinholes. 6:35
Got excited for a moment and thought they went back to the original. The new formula is doable, but unfortunately resulted in added steps of fairing to get it perfect. Thank you for all the lessons.
Plus this area is going to be under the Armstrong bracket so it doesn't really need to be perfect. Unless you intend to remove the Armstrong bracket every year or two.
Where do those knuckleheads come from? Personally I think they sneak into your shop at night while you're sleeping and do their mischief. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.
That darn knucklehead, its not often mind you, but every so often he shows up in my shop. But its still not as bad as my wife constantly moving my glasses or coffee cup or tool from where I JUST sat them down. She denies it, but it has to be her, there's no one else around. 😊
This is starting to shape up like one of my projects. I cursed the screen a year ago during the Coosa work about taking The bracket off. If I had not followed this channel all those years ago, I would never have tackled a massive (~500 dime size non structural) blister job that I was quoted $35k for. Cost me $4600 all in including the sandblast and all materials from Total Boat. I went straight epoxy and can’t say enough great things about Total Boat products. Harbor freight sells a thinner belt version of the mini belt sander. Priceless when doing a blister repair job.
You need to fire the guy that installed those screws. Then he will be unemployed and have time to go work full time on his own boat and maybe even make TH-cam videos of his progress and problem solving.
Hey Andy, I'm just curious- if you're putting the bracket back on, and you'll never see these screws again- why not just cover them with a dollop of 5200? I know that's cheesy, but am I missing something?
With the bracket on, the screws were still visible if you looked under the platform :-/ Theoretically over time moisture still could have worked it's way into the transom

Thank you for showing the mistake of the screws poking though and how to fix it.
Thanks Andy. Nice to see you’re well enough to be doing actual boat projects again. We may have to talk about some Alexseal for my boat in the near future. Thanks again!

One of those tools you didn't know you needed until you got it ;-)!
Screws be gone, way to go and thanks for sharing.
Nice fix , had to do same with a few screws on my project Shetland 👌
Andy when mixing faring compound try folding it rather than stirring it will have less bubbles 😀

What a hack that allowed those screws to go through that transom LOL!
Good thing you know a thing or two about a thing or two. :)
It happens to the best of us lol
Great video, Andy!
Thanks guys!
Hello Andy, that over the shoulder paper towel move was Smooth! Did you learn that in PT?
He is a real magician. The boat wizard of the UP
It's always a great pleasure to see an expert doing his job.

pricey little things but you do get what you pay for!! Love my Festool stuff ;-)
Andy, you are a master magician when it comes to glass work. Maybe magician isn't the right word. Perhaps. Michael Angelo is the name I am looking for. You never cease to amaze me with you work.....
Looking good Andy!
Is there a chance of screw projection in the future. How could you be preventive in situation that could happen. Great content as always.

For which step(s)?
@@boatworkstoday well I was going to primer at first but I was wondering if they're above water lines with work for a swim platform
I also found that attaching the hose to the detail wand sander doesn’t work as well as holding it near the tip
Andy, what grit were you taking down the fairing compound? Thank you for all of the videos!
Sanding prep for the Alexseal primer is 120 grit so that's what I went with on the fairing :-)

@@boatworkstoday Thank you!
Woohoo first comment. Been super nice to have more videos dropping more often now that the shoulders are healing up
wanted to say the same. awesome to see the comeback and healing shoulder.
Great video. What grit did you use on the fairing compound? I'm always afraid to be too agressive.
sanded the fairing with 120 as that would be the grit used as prep for the primer :-)
Can you paint alexseal over old gel coat? If you sand and prep the old gel coat will the paint stick?
as long as the surface is clean and in good condition, technically yes you can but it's best to first prime then paint :-)
If I were you I’d check your security cameras and see if you can find out who put the bolts in like that !!!!! I know it wasn’t you 😂
How are your shoulders doing Andy?
You seem to be managing but I’ll bet you still have some symptomatic pain.
Thanks for sharing your project 😊
Actually pretty decent now! Still a little sore but the gym routine I got setup with is making a noticeable difference :-)

I still have some of the old formula

Can you drop a link to the belt sander you use

Hi andy i've been watching your video for years what primer do you use on spots like you did in the video
typically it would be the primer for whatever paint you'd be using. In my case it would be Alexseal 442 finishing primer :-)
Where do those knuckleheads come from? Personally I think they sneak into your shop at night while you're sleeping and do their mischief. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.
Boat Gremlins lol
Flake King makes a killer gun for spraying big Glass,Mirror and Flake…Flake or Die, Highly recommend man.😊
Sounds interesting! I'll have to look into it!

That must be in the Wife 101 manual. I have one of that model.
Thanks for showing your little mistake, we all do them.

First! 😊
What did I win?
Couldn't you have just sprayed it with "Screw-B-Gone?"
Now that's funny lol!
Dip your boat!
