  • A look at one exciting guitar, the Strandberg Fusion Neck-Thru combines the ergonomics of the Boden body style but with a neck through contoured heel, the headless multiscale endure neck, and a design capped off with amazing Suhr pickups.
    Strandberg designs focus on ergonomics over everything else and the pairing on a headless design with the comfort and tone of neck through is a perfect match. Stainless steel frets ensure years of playing without needing fret work. This guitar also features Strandberg's own proprietary bridge and hardware that is extremely well made and very accurate.
    This is a pricey guitar but has the features to back up that price tag. I'd highly recommend this instrument.

    Great review and demo! I can really appreciate the single coil and split tones and really like the the fact that you didn’t have your amp set to nuclear shred gain levels like most Strandberg demos. I really think the neck-through is the one for me and I can’t decide between the Fusion (your model) and the Prog (love the ebony board on that model).

      Thanks for the kind words and for watching! I think it really depends on the genre you'll be playing, as the names suggest the different guitars are geared for different genres. I love the Fishman Fluence set in my Boden Metal 8, but they lack a bit of the 'soul' of passive pickups for leads. I'm lucky to have an older OS Original with passive pups I use for all my leads, and then I use the Fishman's for aggressive rhythm guitar work. Hope that helps, consider giving the channel a sub for more content like this.

      @@aminorerror that’s cool to hear! I have read a few things about them and they sound super clear. The one I’m going for is the non-trem 6 string. Both Suhr and Fender make great instruments, but I believe the endure neck, the headless design, and the way the body is designed all make it a superior players instrument. Great content man! New sub from London UK here - been looking for reliable and exclusively Strandberg reviews on TH-cam for ages now and dunno how I didn't find you sooner! I'm looking into a Strandy myself but not keen on the whole chambering thing they do - but that Fusion looks lush, would love them to do an 8 neck thru fusion, currently trying find a classic 8 (cos I don't like the chambering body sound) wanted to ask if you preferred the feel and weight of the classic which wasn't chambered? and what your fav Strandberg axe is?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice to meet you and thanks for the kind words and the sub! I personally prefer the chambered body, but that's just me (I've got back problems lol)
      My personal favorite is the Original or the Prog, but I play exclusively extended range guitars, so the chambered bodies really help keep the weight down (esp on my 8 string metal). I WISH they did a prog or original in a 7 with a tremolo in neck through. THAT I'd buy right away lol
      I haven't been able to get my hands on a Standard yet, those are solid bodies as well (if I'm not mistaken) so you might want to consider those as well. They're a bit cheaper.
      I like the fusion neck through more than the classic, but it does cost a whole lot more. The pick ups on the classic I thought needed an upgrade, the stock ones kinda let it down, and the bolt on strandberg neck joint kinda gets in the way sometimes too, the Ibanez AANJ is def a better bolt on design.
      Hope that helps, and thanks again for the sub! If you get a chance you might like the new track I just released where I'm playing my OS Boden Original for all the leads:

      Thanks for the comment and the compliment! I've been wanting to check out a Prog 7 for a while, they seem super cool, congrats on the new axe!
      If I'm honest, tuning stability is the one problem I've had. Lubing the posts and saddles should help, and def fresh strings help but its not as stable of a term system as like an Ibanez Edge Lo Pro is. I'm always retuning between sets (usually a night is 3 50's so it is a lot of playing).
      Wish I could give you some better advice but I think its just the nature of the system. I prefer the way it feels to the Ibanez though, I'm guessing its the zero nut that causes some weirdness. Best of luck!

    • @johnmancina5976
      @johnmancina5976 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for confirming what I’m experiencing. I think an extra spring (3) to help from going flat on bends and an esp arming adjuster trem stop will probably help quite a bit. They should just put Floyds on these guys with the tuning mechanism on the head stock. Problem solved :)

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find the system is stable and reliable for about an hours worth of playing and then it needs to be retuned. It honestly isn't a big deal to me, I like the way the strandberg trem is kinda bouncy and lighter than the Ibanez. Kinda like a Ferrari vs a big old muscle car.

    I tried the Fusion 6 and the Prog 6 (standard versions) and was amazed for this is by far the most playable, fast, comfortable guitar I've ever played. After that everything feels backwards. The Fanned neck, the radius and the frets were so perfect. I completely fell in love with it.
    However, I was very disappointed by the fact that these guitars couldn't really keep in tune, I don't know how it is with the more expensive models but still, even the standards, will cost enough money for one to get a decent guitar that keeps in tune. The pickups were poor quality overall, even though I assume that with the high end models they are better.
    I would love to get one, but still, there is no reason on earth to pay so much money for so little wood, and a guitar thats made in Indonesia. You're basically paying for the idea or the trend, even though the innovation regarding this guitar is fantastic.
    I think that the company still need to improve with the hardware and the manufacturing that goes into these guitars, and probably be a bit more realistic about their pricing.

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry to hear you had problems with the instruments you played staying in tune, that has never been a problem I've had with any Strandberg I've tested. Yes, they're not as rock solid as an Ibanez Lo Pro Edge system if you start to really abuse it, but for normal playing they've always worked well for me.
      As for which models you tried I'm a little confused, the Fusion and Prog lines are separate from the Standard line. The Fusion and Prog both have either Suhr pickups or really nice Strandberg branded pickups, and feature premium tone woods and build quality (although as I mention in other videos I have had problems with rough fret edges). The Standard, and Classic for that matter are more 'budget' instruments though. You do still get solid Maple tops, just with a pretty veneer, and you also get full quality hardware just the pickups have been downgraded to help save money. I don't really agree with the price point, at $1500 that's pretty much the same that you'd pay from any other company to get high quality hardware, and stainless steel frets.
      Just my opinion though, thanks for watching and commenting!

    heyy I have a question about the hardware on these guitars. how's the pull-up range on that bridge?
    I'm asking bc I got a boden classic recently (the burgundy one), and though I really like it, I don't know if the trem is working like it's supposed to. when I pull the tremolo arm up, I have very little range (the high E on the 12th fret only goes up a semitone, or even a little bit less). I know the tuners aren't touching the body at any point so that's not the problem. I feel like it might be the tremolo arm assembly thing touching the walls of the cavity it's in. I saw a video from ola strandberg himself, where he said that sometimes the screw that holds the trem arm will become loose, and it can touch the bottom of the cavity, reducing the trem's pull up range. I think it might be that, but it doesn't think its touching the bottom like on the guitar he showed, where the trem pretty much wouldn't move up at all. also the flutter is kind of weird, it's very short and it sounds like the trem is hitting the body in some way. I already checked if the screw was loose, and it wasn't. is this normal or should I get the guitar checked by a luthier?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks for watching and commenting!
      Firstly, the Strandy trem has two different height settings and if it's setup on the lower one it can limit the range the tremolo can be pulled up from. I'd suggest checking that first. It sounds like you might of just got your guitar recently, so if that's the case there might be some sort of a defect though that might be causing your problem, impossible for me to say without being able to check it out in person.
      Keep in mind that another factor can be how the guitar is setup, and lower action will limit the pull up range. Obviously the strings will get closer to the frets when you pull up so if you have your action set really low that's going to limit it too.
      As far as flutter goes, the Strandy trem doesn't flutter as well as something like an Ibanez or regular floyd rose with the bar facing up toward the neck because the bridge as a whole and especially the bar arm is a whole lot lighter. There just isn't as much mass to flutter so it won't flutter as well. The solution I've found is to rotate the bar backwards away from the neck and then there's more leverage and mass with the bar arm facing that way and it'll flutter much better, closer to my Ibanez J Custom.
      Like I've said in other videos I've made, the Strandy bridge is a great one and it'll do what you want it to do but it's got a totally different feel and vibe and it takes some experimentation and time using the system to learn how to get the most out of it. That's why it took me a long time to switch from playing Ibanez guitars, I knew that system and how to maintain and get the most out of it and making a switch was kinda a pain in the ass but now it's no biggie. Hope that helps, and if you're still having problems hit up Strandberg customer support. They've been really helpful and responsive for me in the past!

    I notice that many people that use strandberg seem to need something wrapped around the first fret to stop the strings from ringing out. Is that needed when playing a strandberg?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and commenting, it isn't something that's needed. Some players use it to help with muting, and it does help get an extra clean take. I tend to use one while I record or help with a specific tapping technique where it isn't possible to keep your right hand on the guitar (like my song World -1).

So.... bolt-on vs neck-thru, I've seen they have been making neck-thru, but now the complete line-up is bolt-on. Did they come up with something? I always thought that neck-thru is better. Do they cheap out a little bit on this one?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for watching! I don't know why they stopped making the neck through models, it's a shame as the neck through design was amazing and the upper fret access was the best. Neck thru isn't necessarily better than bolt on as much as just different. You do get a little bit better sustain the upper part of the neck on a neck thru guitar where the sustain on the notes lower down is actually better on a bolt on, just depends on what you'll be playing. If you can find an older neck thru model, jump on it you'll be really happy! That said, the bolt on NX models are great too, I think you'll be really happy either way. If you can find a model with Suhr pickups equipped then even better. Rock on!

      Unfortunately I don't have this guitar anymore (sold it to get more guitars in for review). I know what you mean about the volume knob and you might find it a bit cramped. I wouldn't let that be a deal breaker though, these guitars sound and play amazing and the ergonomics on the neck through models really are the best guitars around. I'd say if it really bugs you, get rid of the tone knob and put the volume knob there as a work around (I did that on my J Custom RG7CST). Rock on!

    I noticed with my Prog 6 using the right angle Mogami cable that over time it has marked up the wood cavity a bit. It turns and hits up against the wood in there. You can't see it unless you flip the guitar over and look directly in there and it is naturally finished Ash, but...With my new Fusion I really don't want that to start happening. What cable end are you using at the guitar jack?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh nuts that's a bummer! I use either a 15 ft monster cable with straight cable jacks or the planet waves custom cable kit ends with the straight plugs always. The right angle jacks also makes the cable bunch up weird in a way I don't like so I always avoid them. If you've never tried out the solder less planet wave kits I'd highly recommend them. I've gigged legit around 500 gigs on the new and old kits in my big mesa boogie triaxis rig and they're never failed. Also use them in our computer sound rig to connect the di's to the interface. They're the best.

    What do you think about a stranberg salen six string with a five way switch new or used. I play rock metal blues and country.
    Or which of the Stranberg guitars is best for this? Also which Stranberg necks is best for small hands.

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All good! I happen to not have the bar on while I was playing here. The cool thing about the strandberg body design is that there's no wood around the bridge so if you catch it in the beginning I reach onto the bridge and use my hand to slightly lower the pitch. It's a fun trick I was other players doing and I like that because then I'm not moving the bar around. If the Strandberg classic had the same pickups as this one, would you say the difference is not much?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so, I think there'd still be a difference. I was reviewing the neck through fusion model, not the bolt on so I found the tones to be pretty different. Also, the fusion has a humbucker in the neck where the classic has a single coil so that would be different as well.
      If you upgraded the pickups on the classic with a nice set of Suhr's it would radically improve the guitar, it's got just Strandberg pickups in it and I found the middle and bridge to be pretty disappointing. But the classic only costs $1500 vs the fusion neck through's $3000 price tag so that kinda makes sense. Hope that helps!

    • @aminorerror

      I thought that it was weird when I was first getting into Strandberg's. I believe they deemed it unnecessary, and after playing close to 100 gigs on my Boden Original I'd have to agree. The only thing the back plate seems to accomplish is getting in the way of accessing the screws for setup tweaks.

      I think you might be a bit confused here. I was talking about needing to make fine tuning adjustments, just like you'd have to do any any guitar that doesn't have a double locking system (such as a Music Man).
      Also, guitars are stringed instruments and in my experience the better the guitar, the more sensitive and accurate the tremolo system is will make it more vulnerable to things like changes of temperature and humidity change.
      Either way...you should always fine tune an instrument no matter the price before a performance as they all go slightly out of tune after being in a car, even one with a double locking system.

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sick guitar dude, I'm such a huge fan of Ibanez guitars and the hardware on those. They really are some of the most reliable units on the market.
      String changes on a 'berg is no tricker than any other fully floating bridge. If I'm not doing a fret/fingerboard polish I change them usually in pairs of strings and I can do a full string change/string stretch and in tune in about 20 minutes. The Strandberg comes with a T wrench so you can really fly loosing the tuners on the guitar (like using a string winder on a regular tuner). Like any floating bridge, if you're gonna have all the strings off it's best to block the tremolo.
      I've been an Ibanez guy for 20 years but the ergonomics of the Strandberg design is undeniably better, especially if you're going extended range. My 8 string 'berg is less than 10 pounds and balanced perfectly when wearing a strap, the endure neck is amazing too. I'd say give one a try sometime if you can, nothing wrong with an Ibby, but for gigging and playing standing the 'berg is amazing.
