The Magnunson-Moss Warranty Act 1975 prohibits manufacturers from voiding a warranty claim as long as the consumer uses recommended oils and filters and changes it at recommended intervals. I’ve been riding since 1989 and had that discussion with my local HD dealer. Back then Harley sold oil and it didn’t even list the viscosity on the label. I asked what viscosity and they told me I had to use their oil or it would ruin the engine. I explained to them I knew better. My father was a long time ASE certified mechanic and I was a mechanic of 5 years and had helped him since I was old enough to hold a wrench. He was well versed in lubrication. Back then the HD dealer said synthetic oil wouldn’t work. I use Syn3 in the engine and 80-140 in the trans (transmission needs a higher shear stable formula). I have had better luck with Drag Specialties oil in the primary over the years. It doesn’t have as much noise and finds neutral easier. I will say that the HD tech does check a lot of other things in the 1000 service. If you’re not confident in checking all these things, it is worth letting the dealer perform the 1000 mile service. Every bike I have bought I get a service manual with each one. My local dealer knows when I purchase a new bike they have to order me a service manual. It has a lot of helpful information. Great vid and you are asking the right questions to the dealer.
I was just going to write the same thing. I purchased my 2024 a couple of weeks after you from the same dealer and same salesman. I worked as a GM/Peterbilt warranty tech for 10 years, and they absolutely can not void a warranty due to performing your own service.
That alone is enough reason to never even consider buying from Harley, the way the dealers treat people is completely unacceptable. Then there is the ugly looks, terrible handling, poor reliability, insane price and the plethora of human scum that also ride Harleys.
10 oil/fluid changes on my M8. The Redline with Shockproof is Hands down the slickest, smoothest shifts. Used Syn3, Amsoil 20w50 & the trans & primary fluid, Redline 20w50. The Redline Transmission leaves a film but I’ll use that in every HD in the future.

I have an 09 CVO RG and 10 SG. I run Mobil 1 20/50 in my engine. HD Primary/Transmission Fluid in the other two holes. Been doing this for as many years as I can remember. My 98 RG ran 144,242 miles before I sold it, ran no syn 20/50 in it along with HD Trans/Primary fluid. Never changed a clutch, changed the primary chain once, never changed a comp sprocket, changed the primary side trans seal one time but never had to touch the transmission. I stick with what I feel works best for me. My CVO has 60K on it, with an SE 257 cam and V&H exhaust. Haven't touched the motor except to change the lifters because I hate SE lifters and one was starting to tick a bit on start up.
It’s good that this video is long, I appreciate you going into detail about every step. I will be doing my own oil changes and this gives me confidence on doing it. Thank you 🙏🏻
I've always just used Syn 3 in all 3 holes on my last 3 M-8 bikes. Seems to work fine, I've never had any issues with shifting. I like the way you use fresh oil to flush with, I do the same.
I've been using Red Line oils for all 3 (specific products Trans, primary and engine) for more than 20 years with great success across multiple touring HD's I've owned. Bikes always shift smoother and are quieter using Redline products.
I agree. I have used several different oil products and Red Line is the best by far. The tranmission fluid provides the smoothest shifting of any fluid I have ever used.
Like your videos, and your willingness to be honest with your journey with Harley. I do my own oil changes, helps me know the bike better. But I’ve owned other brands of bikes that simply are much easier for the do it yourself. Keep up your informative videos. Best wishes 👍
New Sub, after talking with several shops and trusted owners of shops TIC HD, I'm going to do my own 1K as well, and keep full records. Also from previous ownership of my first 107M8, definitely going with 4.5 qts. oil in my new 24 FLTRX. I Believe I'm going with one type fluid for all three, it's gonna be Amsoil. Thanks again, great job on this without alot of ILY hype for brands!! Thank you...
Glad I could help and thank you for the sub!! I actually looked at the Amsoil stuff which comes highly recommended. I run it in my Triumph Speed Triple 1050 and dirt bike. I was frustrated by the Amsoil Vtwin primary and transmission oil they sell and shy’d away just because it doesn’t even say what viscosity it is. It just says this is the stuff you want which really just grinds my gears (no pun intended 😅)
Been using Syn 3 in all my and wife’s bikes and no issues whatsoever 👍🏻 All CVO’s come factory with SYN all 3 holes as well👍🏻 My wife and I have put several thousand miles on our bikes over the years and the bikes run great with it.
You've had your first experience with the oil dilemma. After having metric bikes, the whole 3 hole thing seemed, well, odd! I settled on Valvoline V-Twin 20w50 full synthetic in the engine and Maxima primary and transmission. I have a 2021 ultra limited and it runs great. Nice video!
I use amsoil for the engine, belray in primary and redline for the trans. Just bought a 23 street glide special a few weeks ago and used the same fluids at the 1k service.
I have been riding Harley Davidson motorcycles for about 35 years. I was around when Harley Davidson said that synthetic was too slippery and then they came out with their own. The moss Magnuson act states that they can’t void your warranty for not using their products, and they recently lost a case with the federal trade commission, and admitted to violating that act. With that being said every local dealer around here, says they have seen problems with transmissions using the red line heavy shockproof. I have been using that stuff for years with absolutely no transmission issues. What’s to say that same transmission wouldn’t have went using syn 3 or their new transmission fluid? I just recently purchased the 2024 CVO road glide in copper head color. As long it is under warranty I will be using syn 3 in the engine and primary and the new 80/140 in the transmission. Just for informational purposes, they do rate gear, oil, different than engine oil and both of those are about the same viscosity.
125,000 mi on my 2017 RGS. 156,000 mi on the bike before that over six years. 60,000 mi on bike before tat over three years. I use Castrol 20/50 in the engine case every 5,000 mi, 20/50 in the primary every 10,000 mi, and 80/140 trans oil (different brands over the years) every 20,000 mi I do an oil change with filter for about $35, I have never had any issues with my high mileage bikes. Been doing. It this way for the last 16 years All the $$$ I’ve saved on those expensive fluids I can use for repairs, but truth is I’ve never had to do any repairs on these bikes, so it’s $$ in my pocket.
1k mile service should be part of the pricing. I hated spending 35k for a bike only to ride it 1k miles and spend another 700 for 1k service. I now do it on my own. 700 is insane.
Good video and just bought the same bike. I am pretty close to ownership at a couple dealerships and off the record. They will always tell you just do the 1000 with us in the rest yourself. They say it makes it easier for them to push back on the motor company, knowing they did the first one. I’m sure you won’t have any problem and enjoy the bike.
Always pull the derby cover first before draining the primary. Reason being is if you strip the small torx bolts on the derby cover and cant remove the cover, youll still have oil in your primary to get the bike into a dealer for service and removal of those torx bolts. They do strip easily. Just a precautionary step.
Good job. you never know who is working on your bike and you never know what’s really gonna get done. I just bought a Lincoln Continental foyers. Old brought it to the Ford dealer fall inspection oil change went to another shop to see what the noise was in the fan and they had a long list of stuff that was wrong with the car. So you just never know and you do a hell of a job
Thank you for the kind words! I definitely trust my work over anybody else’s if I know I’m doing it right. If I know I don’t know how I’ll either learn or accept it needs to go to someone more knowledgeable, but that doesn’t happen too often
I have a 2011 FLTRU with 140K and a new 24 FLTRX. It is the same color as yours. I use Mobil 1 20W-50 in the engine and primary. I use Mobil 1 75W-90 in the trans. The twin has been problem free with original engine and trans at 140K. I just completed the 1K service on the new bike and used the same fluids.
Im the service manager at my local motorcycle shop. I can confirm that you are allowed to do your own service on your bikes. However, the manufacturers sometimes will attempt to decline a warranty because of this. I'd say it's very rare to see it. But also we dont sell harleys so it could be different. We do mostly KTM and Japanese bikes. I've only seen the manufacturer warranty get declined because the customer didn't use the recommended oils stated in the manuals.
You should use gear oil for primary and trans by default, that's what it is made for, doesn't matter if you use 75/90 or 75/140, bikes don't tow anything. 20/50 engine. I haven't tried red line.
Great job !! Occasionally remove the crank shaft position sensor just see if your sumbing. Your selection of oils is my 1 st choice!! And if ever your on a road trip and need work done there will be no mixing wich can be a problem… tell me is there a service reset in the infotainment center..
That’s great info on the crank sensor thank you. I have not seen a service reset yet, there could be. I was planning to do a super quick video showing how to clear codes though, that is an option.
One trick I like to do when taking the oil filter off. With the drain funnel under the filter, use an awl or nail and punch a hole in the bottom face of the filter and let the oil run out before spinning off the filter. Never spill a drop. I use K&N oil filter also with the nut on the end.
I have a 2020 Road King. I've used the Amsoil particular oils in the tranny/primary as well as the 20/50 engine oil. Mine's got 55k miles on it and shifts like butter. I don't notice a difference between any of the oils. I just bought a Heritage and it's new tranny is clunky compared to the Road King. They seem to age like fine wine. I appreciate your vid. I wasn't even going to bother with the primary or tranny, but after seeing what came out of yours, I think I will change them all.
Plus gear oil is for cushioning between gears under pressure while crankcase engine oil is for lubricating cylinder walls and rings (not being crushed between gears.
Hi from Uk i use castrol raceing 10w 50 in the engine and primary and same as you in the gearbox 80w 140 but i change all oils every 5000 might be over kill but always have keep that clutch plate material to a minimum great vid ride free
It’s maddening though. And then Amsoil’s vtwin transmission and primary oils-they don’t even tell you what damn viscosity it is, so I don’t even know what I’m putting in the bike 😅
Thanks for the list of items used. Pretty much covers it all. I would add some blue nitrile rubber gloves. Makes it super easy to handle & identify oil slick parts and tools while keeping your hands clean. A box of 50-100 is super cheap and plentiful at Walmart or Ace.
I use 85/140 with a GL6 hypoid rating in the tranny... I use redline primary oil in the primary... I use Synthetic 20-50 in the engine.... all after break in... After my 1000 mile service from the dealer I drained the oil immediately and put Lucas 20/50 break in oil for the next 3000 miles. Then changed to synthetic.
On my break in service (1k) I use HD 20-50 non synthetic oil in the crankcase, HD 80-140 in the trans, and HD formula+ in the primary. At 4000 miles I switch to syn3 20-50 in the crankcase, 80-140 trans, and formula+ primary. I change all 3 fluids every 3000 miles.
Very comprehensive, and good idea to start out with mineral oil in the engine. I was surprised to hear Harley sends the CVO’s out with all synthetic fluids including engine for break in.
For what it's worth, Harley Owners Manual for the '24 FLTHX and FLTRX states: Engine Oil (pg#169): Syn3 (SAE 20w50) Above 30.2 F HD 360 (SAE 20w50) above 39.2 F HD 360 (SAE 50) above 60.8 F HD 630 (SAE 60) above 80.6 F Transmission (pg# 176) Formula+ Tans and Primary Chain Case Lube (Specs out to about SAE 50 from what I can dig up) SYN3 (SAE 20W50) Primary (pg# 179) Formula+ Tans and Primary Chain Case Lube (Specs out to about SAE 50 from what I can dig up) SYN3 (SAE 20W50)
PS Forgot to add amzoil, does have a far superior oil filter, then Harley's. I think you will be impressed with the Amzol products. I do know many of the Harley Tech and service managers run Amsoil
2019 CVO Limited, Syn 3 in engine, Red Line Heavy Shock Proof in trans and Red Line V Twin Primary, bike came with Syn 3 in all 3 holes, was very hard to find neutral and clunk bad when put into gear, started using the red line at 1000 miles and never looked back, they cant void your warranty, as per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act 1975 as previously stated.
OK here ya go.. 2021 street glide stock 107.103,450 miles yes that is correct. never been to the shop except for tires.I have run Harley SYN 3 20~50 in the engine and 80 ~140 in trans and primary. I change engine and primary at 4,000 and trans at 10,000 also do oil samples. that will tell the real story.
Harley uses 20 50 in all three holes. But they change them all every 5k. If you do it yourself like me, I run the transmission oil from HD and run it 20 k. I do 20 50 synthetic in the engine and primary. Change them both every 5k. I run mobile 1 usually because it is easy to find. I have run Lucas and amsoil
I’ve got a 22 RGST and I run amsoil 20w-50 in the engine and there specific transmission and primary gear oils haven’t had any issues but I think just using the conventional oil will be just fine to I don’t recommend using engine oil in any gearbox tho
Good video love the plate and I love the clean look. Bro I would say I have been riding before you was born. But love your spirit your bike is an extension of you. Build your bike your way! But I’m getting that plate sorry dude, will have to steal that look. Respect Canada
You can use the same in all holes.SYN3 in all holes. The heavier oil for the trans and primary just keeps the noise down. YOU GOT A BOOK WITH YOUR BIKE!!!! Use the syn3 in every hole or use the syn3 in your engine, and syn3 blend in your trans and primary.
New Sub here, great video really helped me complete my first service on my 2024 Street Glide. Question, after the service is complete how do you reset the service mileage on the Skyline OS? I cant find any information on this subject for the 2024. Thanks in advance, really enjoy your channel.
I use syn3 in every hole. That’s exactly why they call it syn3. Synchronize with the same in all holes. In case you have the seal leak no need to worry. I did say warranty is valid by using sy3 in all holes. He said yep. I said easy enough. Syn3 in all holes then. I’m sorry but 2-3 different bottles does indeed suck for home storage. Congrats on your 24”
I use Amsoil 20/50 oil, Amsoil severe gear 75/140 for trans, and Amsoil primary fluid. Using all within the last 22k. Everything running much smoother. It’s good to find neutral easier. I have a 2011 Harley Ultra Classic.
Like you, i do my own oil changes. When i went to my dealer and said im doing my own, he said to make sure to use Harley oil to keep it under warranty. I replied cant i use any oil as long as it matches or exceeds specifications? He said no. I then replied then why do you also sell Amsoil??😅 pindrop! I actually have been using Maxima with no issues.
I would guess a lot has to do with how you ride and what temperatures you usually run at. Example, stop and go traffic in July at 90 degrees outside, you want the heavier oil in the primary and transmission.
Your belief that there is a huge swing between 20W-50 motor oil and 80W-140 it’s not as drastic as you might think. Motor oil and gear oil are measured on two different viscosity ranges. For example, an 85W gear oil has a similar viscosity as a 30W motor oil. So both the motor oil and the gear oil that you have as options will provide very similar viscosities.
You’re absolutely right. That 20w50 does not amount to an equivalent viscosity with the 80w140 though. My frustration is which is actually healthier for the transmission and primary. Not to mention additive packages to the equation..
@@OffWeekGarage I mentioned before I have the same bike. Only just under 500 miles. I live in S.C. and ride quite often. Just upgraded the speakers to stage II and added Stage II speaker lids. Awesome sound! Have a KlockWerks 12” windshield on the way as I’m 6” and need more wind shielding. Love the trask cover for sure. Looking forward to seeing your other upgrades. Cheers!👍
20w50 is used by the factory to achieve the MPGs requirement by the EPA for less drivetrain drag in the trans. SYN3 in general and 20w50 in the trans benefits the factory, not the customer long term. Amsoil for all 3 holes, severe gear for trans. HD started selling heavier gear oil because of so many folks using it thru Amsoil. Many dealers stock all those Amsoil oils because it protects better than in house oils. Wrenched for Harley for 15 years. For example, 30k on an older twin cam with gen 1 cam chain tensioners that used Amsoil from day one and they looked damn near new compared to others that did not use Amsoil. Heat dissipating properties of Amsoil is unmatched.
I think I’m going to try a few different things out and see what feels best real world. I’ll try Syn 3 in all 3 holes, and the Amsoil’s the next time, or vice versa
Great video, I use syn3 in all 3. One comment though, for best practices, break the derby cover bolts loose first to make sure they'll come out. It sucks draining the oil and then finding out one or more bolts are seized, and you can't put the oil back.
HD wants to do the service because they want your money. I worked for HD in Fairfield CA before that dealership moved. They told everyone the dealership should be doing the service. There is nothing written anywhere that says HD must do your service. I never kept a receipt one, never had a dealership ever question me about service work.
I always let H-D do the first oil change. After that i do every 2nd oil change. This way H-D has a chance to inspect the bike. This schedule works for me. Never had an issue. 50K and 75K service was always don by HD.
You oil is your choice, so many options, however, I would use a K&N oil filter for a couple of reasons. Firstly so much easier to change out as its got the welded nut on the end, I find the oil filter tool can slip..hate it. Secondly the amount of filtration material within the filter on the K&N far exceeds the Harley one plus the quality used is far superior. On TH-cam somewhere is a video of a guy who desects a number of different filters and shows exactly whats inside and lets just say K&N are far superior to anything else on the market.
Hey brother…no need for the pipe dope on reinstall for plugs?…I’ve seen many where they use it…seems like the o-ring is good…maybe lube the o-ring?…what does Harley recommend?…thanks!
Absolutely no need for the pipe dope on the plugs! As far as I got with my research it is totally personal preference and most Harley tech videos I’ve seen don’t use it after cleaning it off the first time!
The trans dip stick is plastic? My Twin Cam Road Glide has a metal one. I guess they think they're saving money by doing that. I'd consider changing that one out to a metal one.
Either factory or my dealer put white pipe dope along with the o-ring on the engine oil drain plug on my 22 RG. I’m fine with a tiny amount of pipe dope to ensure it doesn’t leak
I hear ya, it’s totally personal preference, lot of people use it, if you start it a few threads down on the plug it shouldn’t end up in the pan anyway!
You can do either the Harley primary/trans or you can use 20W50 in your favorite flavor. There will be no large difference in wear in the trans or primary. It WILL be easier to find neutral and it WILL be quieter as far as the clunk when putting it in gear and the trans will be quieter. It’s completely up to the tech as to what goes in the trans/primary.
I can see the reasoning behind using the 20w50 for all 3 holes. The oil is just splashing the clutch to keep it cool, thinner the better in my opinion. The transmission….its not like it is automatic transmission where you are relying on fluid pressure to change gears….the fluid is literally just lubricating the gears….I am gonna run 20w/50 in my 24 Street Glide..I just hit the 1000 mile service.
I just came from harley getting my oil change kit for the 1k service there service people told me i should run harleys conventional 360 oil. That is what the bike is shipped with from factory.
I changed to the new gear oil when it was being sold for my2015 Ultra. Before that the transmission was not shifting as smooth as I would have liked in the heat and that was with a gear oil the dealership had put in for me. The new oil works great.

Always pull the derby cover first before draining the primary. Reason being is if you strip the small torx bolts on the derby cover and cant remove the cover, youll still have oil in your primary to get the bike into a dealer for service and removal of those torx bolts. They do strip easily. Just a precautionary step.
Great thought!!
I have always swapped out those Torx on the Derby cover with Allens.
Good job. you never know who is working on your bike and you never know what’s really gonna get done.
Awesome!! Wow 140k, that is epic!! Congratulations on the new bike!!🤜🤛
I got the street glide in that set up. Looks good on the road glide
The new street glides are sweet too, I love the new design!!
Good video and i do like where u run fresh oil thru the cases just to flush out any shavings, dirt etc that might still be in there...good tip
Thank you sir!!🤜🤛
Im the service manager at my local motorcycle shop. I can confirm that you are allowed to do your own service on your bikes. However, the manufacturers sometimes will attempt to decline a warranty because of this. I'd say it's very rare to see it. But also we dont sell harleys so it could be different. We do mostly KTM and Japanese bikes. I've only seen the manufacturer warranty get declined because the customer didn't use the recommended oils stated in the manuals.
Amsoil 75/90 Gear Oil in Transmission & Primary is what i use. Amsoil 20/50 in Engine, Amsoil Filter
I run syn 3 in engine and hd gear oil in primary and transmission
I use amsoil trans oil and primary oil then engine oil. Take pictures of oil change and drain plugs.
Glad I could help!!🙌 I’m thinking I’ll try Amsoil next, I want to try a few different combinations and see how it feels in the bike!
Plus gear oil is for cushioning between gears under pressure while crankcase engine oil is for lubricating cylinder walls and rings (not being crushed between gears.
Exactly, which leads me to say why the hell does Harley say their Syn 3 is good for all 3 holes? It’s maddening.
Yay, good morning, Jesse 🤗
Good morning!!☀️
Hi from Uk i use castrol raceing 10w 50 in the engine and primary and same as you in the gearbox 80w 140 but i change all oils every 5000 might be over kill but always have keep that clutch plate material to a minimum great vid ride free
Great footage! Thankyou for uploading this showing howto 👍👍
No problem 👍
I just got my 2024 to 950 miles they gave me the same crap about my warranty. I'm going to follow you hoping for as many updates as possible! ML&R
Thanks for coming along for the ride and congrats on the new bike!!🍻
Great content brother. Be careful going down that different oils rabbit hole you could be down there for years 😂 Now time to ride enjoy your scoot.
I have the good thick orange textured ones, I just kept blowing through them taking them on and off to fiddle with the camera 😅
@@OffWeekGarage
Those are great too. Well done my brother.
On my break in service (1k) I use HD 20-50 non synthetic oil in the crankcase,
HD 80-140 in the trans, and HD formula+ in the primary.
I also agree on the shorter service intervals. From my motocross days, I’m used to changing fluids frequently as safe insurance.
Exactly, I've gotten over 100k miles on multiple Harleys in the past by doing frequent fluid changes and good maintenance habits. Ride safe
My experience is Harley heavy gear 80-140 for trans, seems to quite the gears and neutral is easier to find.
I am happy with it so far!
For what it's worth, Harley Owners Manual for the '24 FLTHX and FLTRX states:
Engine Oil (pg#169):
Syn3 (SAE 20w50) Above 30.2 F
HD 360 (SAE 20w50) above 39.2 F
HD 360 (SAE 50) above 60.8 F
HD 630 (SAE 60) above 80.6 F
Transmission (pg# 176)
Formula+ Tans and Primary Chain Case Lube (Specs out to about SAE 50 from what I can dig up)
SYN3 (SAE 20W50)
Primary (pg# 179)
Formula+ Tans and Primary Chain Case Lube (Specs out to about SAE 50 from what I can dig up)
SYN3 (SAE 20W50)
Thanks for the Great video very knowledgeable ride safe!
Thank you sir!!🤜🤛
Congrats on your 24”
I may try syn 3 in all 3 holes next, just for research purposes! Thank you!!
Well organized presentation.
Thank you sir!!🤝
Yeah that’s hilarious, awkward!! I looked into the Maxima oil change in a box but the black filter kit was out of stock, may try it eventually!
Gear and Engine oils use different grading scales, so you can't compare viscosity grades.. Look up the SAE charts for both to compare.
I would guess a lot has to do with how you ride and what temperatures you usually run at. Example, stop and go traffic in July at 90 degrees outside, you want the heavier oil in the primary and transmission.
Amsoil 20 50 crankcase Amsoil primary Amsoil severe gear 140 trans Amsoil shows much better protection rate and additives
Great video my friend. Great useful info!!
Thank you brother!!🙌🤝
Great video! Where did you get the service manual for a 2024 Road Glide?
I don’t have a service manual yet, just the standard basic owner’s manual that came with the bike!
Answer is simple, all the other motorcycles have the same.oil in engine and gearbox.
Syn 20-50 for engine. 80-140 trans and primary
SYN3 in all holes I run never had any issues
Great video, I use syn3 in all 3. One comment though, for best practices, break the derby cover bolts loose first to make sure they'll come out. It sucks draining the oil and then finding out one or more bolts are seized, and you can't put the oil back.
Good tip, but if a bolt is seized I’m getting it tf out one way or another! Lol
HD wants to do the service because they want your money. I worked for HD in Fairfield CA before that dealership moved. They told everyone the dealership should be doing the service. There is nothing written anywhere that says HD must do your service. I never kept a receipt one, never had a dealership ever question me about service work.
Lucas Full syn 20/50 in all 3 holes, 3 bikes over 100,000 no engine problems and yes I let them do the first oil change and I do the rest..
I always let H-D do the first oil change. After that i do every 2nd oil change. This way H-D has a chance to inspect the bike. This schedule works for me. Never had an issue. 50K and 75K service was always don by HD.
I’ve been using the Lucas synthetic 20W-50
Last i recall at least for a 22 m8 114, they recommend sae 60 in 80 degree weather and hotter.
Great information, thank you, I’ll reach for K&N filter next!!
Great video !!!
Thank you for watching!!🤝
Hey brother…no need for the pipe dope on reinstall for plugs?…I’ve seen many where they use it…seems like the o-ring is good…maybe lube the o-ring?…what does Harley recommend?…thanks!
Absolutely no need for the pipe dope on the plugs! As far as I got with my research it is totally personal preference and most Harley tech videos I’ve seen don’t use it after cleaning it off the first time!
@@OffWeekGarage sounds good
The trans dip stick is plastic? My Twin Cam Road Glide has a metal one. I guess they think they're saving money by doing that. I'd consider changing that one out to a metal one.
Should have shown the bike running with that new durby cover. But great video over all.
I did…
@@OffWeekGarage damn I’ll be 100% honest I must have looked away of course. 🤦🏻♂️ mybad
Very informative. Thank you
Glad I could help!!
Great video, layed out extremely well 🤙🏻
Thank you for the support, it’s greatly appreciated!⚡️
The “W” stands for Winter
You can do either the Harley primary/trans or you can use 20W50 in your favorite flavor. There will be no large difference in wear in the trans or primary. It WILL be easier to find neutral and it WILL be quieter as far as the clunk when putting it in gear and the trans will be quieter. It’s completely up to the tech as to what goes in the trans/primary.
Good information
Thanks for watching!!
Motul 20/50 in the engine, Bel-Ray primary chaincase in the primary, Bel-Ray Big Twin transmission in the gearbox
Historically, when I removed my crank sensor, there's been around 4oz behind the crank sensor. Were you confident that this is no longer the case?
I did not check, thank you, I will!
I run redline shockproof in the tranny. Runs great always looks new. Never had an issue. I have a 2011 dyna fat bob. Redline primary also.
I also like Redline Shockproof for the tranny, Mobil1 20/50 synthetic for engine, and Harley Syn for the primary.
I changed to the new gear oil when it was being sold for my2015 Ultra. Before that the transmission was not shifting as smooth as I would have liked in the heat and that was with a gear oil the dealership had put in for me. The new oil works great.
Lovin the videos from Olympia Wa
@@caseygarrison4610 another local!! Right on man, thanks for watching!!🙌
I would never use motor oil in a gear box or primary, the thicker the oil the better, it will keep the air cooled motor cooler! My opinion!
I've been using Bel Ray fluids last 10k. So far, I'm happy. But my ride is an old EVO, for what that is worth
Hey man. FYI you can't put heated grips on your new bike without going to the dealer..we just tried for a customer......what a bummer.......
Awesome job 👍🏽
I think the fluid choice mostly come down to your riding style and where you live "various tempetures" hot, warm, cold, mild, humid, dry heat
I think you’re totally right. Staying within the confines of proper oils and then choosing which ones you really can’t go wrong..
Good job dude
Thank you sir!
I say 20/50 in the engine and primary. Gear oil in the transmission because it's all gears in there.
