Bought it 3 weeks ago. Really love it. Works great with Apple Pencil for notetaking too. USB-C makes it future-proofed, and it runs as fast as the current iPad Air.
I'm thinking about picking one up and it will not be my main device. It will be a companion to my mammoth 12.9 iPad pro that I don't want to pull out on the bus. I've been waiting to hear how it handles music production. Thanks for the video!
Been using the iPad mini since the second generation with Retina display. To me it’s hands down the best tablet out there. it simply does it all, & super portability👌
I got my mini 5 around the same time I got my ipad pro 11“ (2018) The mini IS the one I take along with me Everywhere, all the time. The 11“ pro stays home. Now, I dream of a mini 6- M1 w/ base storage 128GB, that would be grand. Creating GB tracks, on the go, on such a form factor, and then finishing it up on the pro, is just divine.
I can highly recommend a Zugu case. OK, it will double the weight of the iPad but it's a fantastic case. A combination of already owning an iPad Mini 6 and, then seeing a video by this channel that got me looking at GarageBand. This has sent me down a deep rabbit hole. Now looking at using my iPad as a controller for Ableton, with a view to maybe getting a larger iPad in the future, just going to see how it works out on the iPad I have for now.
I've had so many iPads and I need to go back to mini. M1 doesn't matter if you can't even use it cuz it's so big. The 11" and 12.9" are way to big for me personally.
hello,is this ipad will powerfull for maximum track? because now iam using ipad air 2 and it keep "optimizing performance" when i open drumer and make more than 5 track.
I use the M1 iPad Pro way too much to ever consider the iPad mini as my primary device, but it’s really a sweet-looking and capable device to get some mileage. I do need a bigger screen, and the 11” screen is perfect for me. But lik,e you, glad to see the mini is a powerful little device. Thanks for this.
Removing the jack in general is anti consumer and a blindly profit driven decision, but removing it from an ipad is especially silly. I thought also a lot of musicians use ipads in live setups and I assume they use the headphone jacks for that.
My 7th gen IPad works perfect for me using GarageBand, but the mini is just too small for me, although I would like the power of that A15 in a 10.2”. I’m going to to picking up a Mac Mini with the M1 this Christmas so problem solved.
The removal of the headphone socket is both entirely expected and entirely ruinous from a music production viewpoint. Compact form and lightweight design are all very well, but the impact is completely spoiled when you always have to rummage for the lump of plastic that lets you plug in your cans. I’ll stick with my previous generation model which hasn’t let me down yet.
I think this is a false debate because most people who are considering making serious music will invest in an external audio interface. Since I invested in one, I sincerely forgot that my iPad Pro lacked a jack plug :)
@@baptistec.4546Surely the whole point of iOS music production is the inherent portability. The freedom to begin, flesh out, finish and distribute from the palm of your hand is magnificent. If you think what you are doing is more ‘serious’ because of an audio interface I feel you’re missing the point. It’s always an option to finish a track on a traditional desk top set up if you want, but that shouldn’t mean you can’t compose on the tube.
@@Clocktoys By serious, I was just implying a stronger commitment into music. When I see the number of instruments for sale on private sale sites that mention "new guitar almost not used", I think that many people give up music quickly. And therefore, that those who continue are those who found a passion and who’ll end up, no doubt, by buying an audio interface ;)
Coming from iPad air 1 which was 9.7” had 3.5mm jack which I miss and still works but I had to sale it for a buddy who need it anyways I found limitations and I do piano just for practice and singing but I at first wanted a smaller more portable tablet and since the iPad performance was limited and started to glitch when changing apps and I couldn’t multitask in anyway I had to give up , and went for a Samsung tab mini size but noticed two things ( too small for lyrics , the other app I needed for audio was not made with quality like iOS and also piano apps from 2013-2021 haven’t worked for me in the android play store so no matter if it’s the latest Samsung or tablet in android it just doesn’t perform and is flexible like apples apps for music but for multitasking Samsung is my #1 and that screen ratios are great for movies ) but so I want to get either a mini 6 or iPad Pro 2020 cheaper price the only thing I will be missing is center stage heheh but then again that pencil 2 might be an extra cost which the older 2020 iPad Pro will be better , how is the multitasking for garage band is it compatible? I try to do a multitasking in one gear app and it’s still not working only full view so , what’s your recommendation for which iPad would you recommend me ;for lyrics and piano apps and maybe pictures , I hated lighting I still have dongle but iPad 9 has also some features hehe , well type c is way better I think . One question you might be the most adequate to ask is ; how is TH-cam and movies for this iPads which one supports higher (TH-cam resolution playback videos) in the iPad Air I had cap max resolution was 1080p . For Cams in the mini 6 vs the iPad 2021 which one has better cameras ?

Cheers Dean. The mini totally makes sense as a secondary device. I genuinely love it as a TH-cam/entertainment machine.

Love my iPad mini 6 256g…..
Love mine too. Using it as my travelling iPad with my 12.9 inch Pro 2020 as my

Nice! It makes for a great traveling companion I bet!

How do you plug in headphones into this? My Samsung USB C headphones don’t work on it. I have to use the Apple USB C adapter on this?
You can use any USBC adapter with a headphone jack. Doesn’t need to be the Apple branded one.
Just curious? Now, two months later, what do you think?
Can you connect a midi keyboard to it?
Sure, though you may need an adapter depending on what attachment your keyboard has.
Feel like one should wait for a M1 Mini. Surprised this wasn’t it. I’m worried about Apple dropping support for their A1X chips.
Nah, it’s all Apple silicon. You would expect many years of updates for this device.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Good to know. Thanks!

It has usb c. That’s actually better than a headphone Jack

128 GB option is the only thing this device misses... I'll stick to my mini 5 for a while longer then - Thanks for the review, Patrick!
Yeah, I totally agree. The mini would be a much more enticing proposition if it’s base storage was 128GB instead of just 64GB.
its insane that they only have 64 and 256
I know, such a missed opportunity.
You mean they deliberately missed the 128 GB option to make you overpay for 256 GB.
It will be my companion iPad. I also have the M1 iPad Pro 11 inch. It will be my 3rd iPad mini. I'm coming from the iPad mini 5.

Yep, it’s a total bummer that Apple removed the headphone jack from this new model, but not unexpected.

Think now that I have VS Visual Synthesizer Fever I may have to go Pro again tho really like the size of the new Mini

I live it Florida and I have to turn the brightness down outside, not sure if his is faulty but very very good outside in direct sunlight.
My wife loves taking pictures with her iPad.
Good on her, I meant no offence 👍
The Mini doesn't work for me. But my daughter loves it! Cheers
What about it didn't you like?
Lmao doesn’t work for you! It’s no different than any other iPad
It's not for me. Too small and too expensive.
Yup, it’s definitely a bit TOO pricey even for Apple.
Lol it’s the best value. Just save some
I use mine to read comics and magazines
